Connolly best position

I think he's best on the bench as it gives us cover for 3-4 different positions as legs begin to tire.

On the pitch though I would probably go for combative defensive mid as his best position.

Ok I stand corrected.

But he's hardly been given a real opportunity there has he? And was filling in having trained to play elsewhere.

However the side at Millwall was:

C Maxwell, L Garbutt, C Connolly
red card
(s/o 14), R Keogh, Marvin Ekpiteta, K Dougall
yellow card
, R James, K Anderson
yellow card
, J Bowler (T John-Jules, 88), S Lavery (K Stewart, 67), J Yates
yellow card
(C Hamilton, 76)

So it would appear he was at RB with Marv and Keogh in the centre.

Let's stick to the truth folks!

Did you watch the match at Millwall ? I certainly did & he played at centre back , but maybe we played 3 at the back .

Connolly gives it his all but he is technically lacking. He is handy to have around because he can play in different positions, a bit similar to Neal Bishop, but I would say he isn't good enough to nail down a spot in a Championship side.

Callum Connolly is always 7/8 out of 10 every match, in a 18 man squad at our level a valuable player to have. I would play him right side in a back 3 his best position. Every confidence at R/B or D/M. Think they will renew his contract when up.

100%, awesome squad player for his versatility.

Not good for him as he’s not first choice in any position but that’s how it goes and when you look at our injury record, he won’t be out for long.

For what it’s worth, I think he will start on Saturday at RB, but Lyon’s will soon be our RB, fighting with Gabriel when he comes back.

Reminds me of Peter Clarke to small for a centre half and to slow for a RB.
He leaves everyone on the pitch always a 7 and never lets you down a top pro.
mmm..not sure I ever thought Clarke was too small or too slow for either position, Those thoughts never crossed my mind. Thought he was an outstanding player for us the time he was with us. Thorniley and Connolly, two players who I didn't really think were great at first and I still don't think they're great now but they've both done a good job for us stepping into positions where they weren't probably considered first choice. Generally two pretty consistent players but a manager will likely spend a lot more time assessing their performance, strengths and weakesses than us amateurs will do. Overall, I'd say yes we can get better and probably within budget too.

Based on Boxing Day, I reckon I could get a game at Hull.
I am not disagreeing but it speaks volumes that we didnt win the match and in fact could easily have lost it...at some point we have to draw a line in the sand if we cannot win games...if we dont beat Watford then we have Huddersfield next ...if we dont win that then what?

If we lose those two I think he'll be gone tbh.
