Cummings

Bozo has set up public “stooges” to ask questions about vaccines, schools etc... basically about anything but the question that is on everyone’s lips... “Do you think that supporting Cummings’ actions is putting your credibility with the public at stake?”

It's all about the childcare. In which case, wouldn't it have made more sense for his healthy family members to come down to London, collect the child and go to the place of safety?

Despite him and his wife falling ill, no such childcare took place in Durham.

I think you underestimate the people of this country. They won't lower themselves to the "Do what I want" attitude of Cummings, they will largely behave with respect for the health of themselves and the nation. There are always going to be people who break the rules and already have, many, in fact. It doesn't make it right and it shouldn't mean that because Cummings has been found out that people should use this as an excuse to do what they want.

He won't last next week out, he will be gone by this time next week and Boris has been foolish in his support, but it may affect him short term, but it won't after that. The main players of the Tory party have made a major error in judgement but it will blow over. There are far more serious things to be getting on with than this, which is newsworthy but in the great scheme of things is stupid but no right up there and as I say, he will be gone in a week..... Good, because I wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him.

Whatever you may think of Boris`s replies which don`t impress me the above post is demonstrable nonsense.

The Prime Minister is making it clear no rules have been broken and that Dom has acted with integrity.

It's 1984 and Animal Farm writ large.

Yes there were questions from only only two members of the public. BJ knew the media would go with DC and he wanted a couple of soft questions first. Standard PR.
If you`ve ever bothered to watch the daily press conferences you would know that every one starts with 2 questions from the public before media questions.

Yes, I know that. Stop blathering about a minor point. The focus is still on Cummings. That’s not over. When the advisor becomes the main story the advisor’s position is untenable. Bozo might have a reputation for gambling but it does seem odd that he would take such a big risk for someone not really trusted by many of his colleagues.

It was obvious that Boris doesn't watch the daily briefings as he didn't even realise he had to read out the second question. This is standard practice has been done at every conference. Just proves he's a part time PM and needs to go now.

Few points of note.
1. Categorical denial that Cummings went to Barnard Castle, coincidentally on his wife's birthday when they were both ill with symptoms. What happens if that turns out to be true? Still responsible and with integrity?
2. How long can he ride this one out? Will the press let it drop? Indeed, will the Tory party?

So very annoyed. No real answers, total hypocrisy and avoidance and he seems to think people will understand.
Deluded, we don’t understand.
Handed Starmer the next election on a plate if he steps up now.
Cummings the psychopath must have him by the balls over something, but that isn’t the concern of the public.
Shocking arrogance, cowardice and insults all of us.
Really annoyed.

I don`t blather but your post was demonstrable nonsense. Clearly you don`t like me pointing that out. If you troubled to get your facts right and not make wildly misleading statements, indeed like Boris in this case, that would certainly help.

Let's face it, the PM failed to answer a single question about the demonstrable fact that lockdown rules in place in March, were broken.

Exactly. I said t'other day, I can stretch my empathy and credulity to possibly believe that Cummings was making the wrong choice for the right reasons.

What I cannot accept is the insistence he did no wrong. That's worse than the action itself. It's a total rewrite of rules we all watched being written.

[Father Jack mode on]
I’m so so so so sorry...
[Father Jack mode off]

Anyway, back to the DomCum credibility gap...

It has to be true as no denial from Boris when asked.

I can slightly understand the desire to ensure he had family back up for child care if both he and his wife were too unwell and that was not available locally. However, others have had to find other solutions and there also appears to be some questions about a second trip. Taking into account his role in contributing to current policy I do think his position is untenable and he should resign. And I do think it is a mistake by Boris to try to hold onto him.

UK Civil Service Twitter feed. 'Arrogant and offensive . Can you imagine having to work with these truth twisters'.

Now taken down. That's what happens when you have access to more than one account with work.

1. how many posters are aware of this caveat in the lockdown guidance that allows travel to a second home if a family has allowable child-care issues?

2. What are those allowable child-care issues?

He wasn’t even unwell at the time Pete. It’s bloody shambolic either way.
Parents and especially single mums wade through mud at the best of times and still stick to the rules throughout covid lockdown.
Second home visiting was a carte blanch no from the off, still is.
The man has to have something on Boris because deep down he knows the score, his bumbling avoidance response was palpable tonight. He’s toast.
This won’t simply disappear and I think we are going see a whole lot of dirt and secrets exposed in the coming days and months.

Spot on Lala👍

You started the abuse...
I simply and accurately pointed out that your initial post about stooges set up to ask soft questions was demonstrable nonsense and the press conference was following exactly the same pattern as it always has done.

Just to clarify what I have previously made clear, I don`t support or agree with BJ`s statements or his stance on this but that has no bearing on my comments regarding your misleading post.

A couple of separate observations:
1. The 'holier than thou' media scrummaging outside Cumming's house were dismissive of the social distancing rules themselves!
2. I am surprised that the media weren't similarly critical in recent weeks of Prince Charles. When he was already showing symtoms he still went abroad to an event. He subsequently tested positive, but instead of self isolating in Clarence House, his main residence (and where he would have had support), he scurried off to Scotland to self isolate. Very similar to Cummings, and he didn't have a young child to look after.

MRS CUMMINGS ARTICLE - with an add on from the man himself.

Forgot to mention Durham

“Dominic Cummings collapsed and was confined to bed for 10 days with severe breathlessness after contracting the coronavirus, his wife has revealed.
Boris Johnson's chief adviser contracted the deadly illness at around the same time as the Prime Minister, but little was known about how badly affected he had been.

Writing in The Spectator, Mary Wakefield said her husband should have been hospitalised when his symptoms worsened.

She said Mr Cummings had "rushed home" when she first showed signs of having contracted the bug.

"He’s an extremely kind man, whatever people assume to the contrary,” she wrote. "But 24 hours later, he said ‘I feel weird’ and collapsed.
breathless, sometimes achy, but Dom couldn’t get out of bed. Day in, day out for 10 days he lay doggo with a high fever and spasms that made the muscles lump and twitch in his legs. He could breathe, but only in a limited, shallow way."

After a week, Ms Wakefield said the stricken paid had reached "peak corona uncertainty".

She added: "I was told: that’s when you either get better or head for ICU. But was Dom fighting off the bug or was he heading for a ventilator? Who knew?

"I sat on his bed staring at his chest, trying to count his breaths per minute.

"The little oxygen reader we’d bought on Amazon indicated that he should be in hospital, but his lips weren’t blue and he could talk in full sentences, such as: 'Please stop staring at my chest, sweetheart'."

Mr Cummings finally returned to work last week, while Mr Johnson is continuing his recovery at Chequers.

In a short article accompanying his wife's, Mr Cummings described his home environment as "sticky" as the couple fought the illness while trying to look after their four-year-old son, Ceddy.

"Everything is covered in a layer of spilt Ribena, honey, peanut butter and playschool glue," he wrote.

"I have to talk a lot more at work than I like — I like quiet. Being with Mary in lockdown means I think I am talking all day and Mary thinks she’s starved of conversation.

"But I like listening to her and our four-year-old. They bicker like an old married couple and discuss what the birds are thinking."

1. The media were wearing facemasks and have continued to work throughout the epidemic, with the full support of the Government and the People.

2. Prince Charles is not responsible for determining Government Policy in relation to the lockdown and we know very little about his residential status in any case.

What jugears did was wrong.
The difference with Cummings is that the Prince does not make the rules that everyone else was supposed to abide by. Cummings was involved in that process.
I think that we will see part three tonight, released to boost sales of tommorow's mirror and guardian. Expect something at around 8 o clock. There's plenty more mileage in this one. Johnson seemingly prepared to sacrifice this governments credibility to save one man.
It's amazing.

I’m a key worker working bank holiday Monday tomorrow so the people get their money and the government can claim to have met demand.
I helped them meet that demand, as many other key workers have. My granddaughter has been at school throughout as a key worker child.
Feel like staying in bed tomorrow and saying fuck you, why should I support you in meeting your fiscal stats when you’ve disrespected every single one of us 😡
But then people don’t get their money and people wouldn’t get the care or food they needed if we all took that stance.
Don’t mistake our kindness for weakness.
