Cummings

Old Piers Morgan is leading the charge on Twitter (very entertaining) stating that Cummings didn't even get any secondary childcare during his "visit".

Members of SAGE :

Prof Stephen Reicher, Prof Susan Michie and Prof Robert West - who sit on the Sage behavioural science sub-committee SPI-B - have taken to social media following the Downing Street press conference.

Reicher said the prime minister had "trashed all the advice we have given on how to build trust and secure adherence to [lockdown] measures", while his colleagues both tweeted their agreement.

Michie said she feared that the public view of science would be diminished by "association with this government".

Mass resignations from SAGE unless Boris bins the Ghoul ?

Anyone else calming down a little 😓 Not forgiving or forgetting just calming down now 👍
Bloody stressful afternoon and evening but one I seriously believe history will remember.

Surely by now you posters must realise.........the public are little people, inconsequential nobodies. The rules exist for THEM to obey, not the important people. The important people make rules and they break rules. That is how it should be.

Sorry, I meant to record Boris's tea-time message. As I forgot I hope this rough translation will do instead.

I had more faith to be honest. But I won’t apologise for that. I’ll just learn and not forget.

I see the MP for Blackpool North has been publicly critical of the handling by the Government on this, so credit where it's due.

So Johnson is now being seen as arrogant, out of touch, contemptuous of the electorate, a liar, incompetent, lazy and totally reliant on Cummings to do his job for him. If only there had been some evidence of all this before he was elected 😆
I'm surprised there haven't been more 'told you so' posts.

“The modern British male is useless. If he is blue collar, he is likely to be drunk, criminal, aimless, feckless and hopeless and perhaps claiming to suffer from low self-esteem brought on by unemployment.”

“Families on lower incomes the women have absolutely no choice but to work, often with adverse consequences for family life and society as a whole - in that unloved and undisciplined children are more likely to become hoodies, NEETS, and mug you on the street corner.”

Boris Johnson
The Spectator, 1995

I understand why people are angry but going from zero to 100 in a second doesn't always help in these situations. I hope the response by those opposed to the handling are measured and clear and avoid unnecessary hyperbole. There are a number of organisations out there that will vociferously back Cummings, such as Guido and Conservative rebuttal and they are very clever in how they operate. Lots of false equivalents and a fair amount of sneering.
Politically, the backbenchers in the Tory Party are pretty much leading the opposition to him. I say good on them. Let them carry on....for now.

Me too. Johnson has consistently shown us all who and what he is and who and what he stands for so none of what he is currently doing should come as any surprise whatsoever to anyone, he’s just being who and what he’s always been. From when he was a journalist through to being a MP, Mayor of London, Foreign Secretary and now PM he’s been nothing but consistent.

As I said all along Corbyn and Abbott should hang their heads in shame that they were so comprehensively pummelled by this incompetent fool...the lack of a credible opposition was the main reason Bozo was elected...I hope Starmer can step up to the plate now and keep the pressure on...I still believe Cummings must and will go.

Not sure why JC should just hang his head in shame as he simply wasn’t appealing enough - and that idiot DA.

It’s the Labour Party as a whole that are to blame for the election result, if they had put up a reasonable alternative they would have walked it.

They would have got my vote and I am a Tory at heart, but have voted for others as well.

Or some one informing people of this on this site!😄

So true. People voted to 'get Brexit done' and to keep that lunatic Corbyn out of Downing St. Despite what some of the fake socialists on here think, Corbyn did a hell of a lot of damage to Labour's chances at the last election.

So it's Corbyn's fault. Glad we've got that straight now. I was labouring under the impression it was Cummings who was to blame for actions then the Tory leadership for the cover up and denials.

Have to say, it's not something I'm gonna get angry or annoyed over. He's done wrong so he has to go, that's it. No point getting that worked up over it that affects your daily life. And this "little people" comment from 66 is just a mindset. Just get on with your life and enjoy it. Don't let other people have so much influence over things. That's why I'm not into politics, I'm not the social conscience of the world. It'll just eat away at you as some on here show evidence of. Not that they realise it of course.

To be honest 20s, as much as I sometimes feel you and I come from different places (I mean, anyone can see Spearing is dwindling flame*), I do agree with the essence of that sentiment. Think about what you can do and what you can influence and you'll be happier. It also then sets an example of what you want the world to be like and encourages others to do so.

There's an old lady round me who started picking up litter and I think she's inspired about 20 of us to do the same, which in turn seems to have had an impact on how many people drop it. She could have complained, she didn't. She just got a bag and did it. No fuss, no declaration, just an action.

That said, the internet encourages us to believe we're all in the court of public opinion all the time and perhaps we place too much sway on it and not enough time in the real world acting on our desires for change by actually doing things. I read a very convincing argument that the internet has had a similar effect on 'the left' (a broad and vague term for anyone who is unhappy with the status quo) as psychedelics in the 60/70s - it makes people inward looking and searching for an answer that isn't actually there or living out a fantasy life that has no connection to reality.

I have some sympathy for that theory. The idea that the internet, like drugs, provides a false sense of our individual worth and the value of our feelings/opinions**

* I am joking, Spearing is fine by me.

No. It's Corbyn's fault that Labour lost the election. Or he certainly has to take a large percentage of the blame. It's not Corbyn's fault that Cummings has acted so badly. Either stop twisting things round to suit your agenda or learn how to read posts correctly.

A bit of an in deep analysis but you know what, I agree with your point on the psychedelics even though it's too general to cast all that generation in that category. There's plenty on here though who do fit the bill! I end up disagreeing with a lot of them!😄

What agenda?

Your argument seems to be 'a butterfly flapped its wings somewhere'

In every political crisis or scandal ever, the opposition lost prior to the party who are in crisis or scandal being in power. We've done the 'labour lost because... to death' and if you wish to (I wouldn't, it's boring) look at my comments, I'm quite clear that I am of the opinion that Corbyn should have gone sometime after 2017 and allowed Labour to build on the reletively decent showing then.

I'm not sure I have a defined agenda, and if I do, it certainly isn't slavish loyalty to Corbyn and his memory. I'm just not altogether sure what he has to do with Cummings breaking his own rules or Boris swearing black is white in defence of him
