Derbyshire Police at it again

Updating this morning, Derbyshire Police are reviewing all fixed penalty notices, as guidance from the police chiefs have told them exactly what the AVFTT intelligentsia have already posted about the law.

Should we set up a consultancy ? 🤣
Hope they review and confirm the decision. I'd prefer all police forces to interpret the rules strictly. Given an inch, people take a mile so the police need to be strict to balance that behaviour out.

Failing to do so and going soft will send out the wrong message, leading to more virus deaths as people will keep interpreting everything to be in their favour.

Derbyshire police are not the best example nationally, they have a poor reputation when it comes to dealing with the law abiding public. This action was repeated throughout the county involving a large amount of police resources.

I guess we don’t know what the conversation was, these ladies could have been argumentative. Looking at the photos of them, they’re well dressed and probably weren’t aggressive or swearing, but maybe condescending, talking down to them, “do you know who you’re talking to, kind of thing” no doubt we’ll find out soon enough.

It doesn’t matter whether they were condescending or talked down to them. Let’s face it, the Police spend their days being condescending to the Public.

What matters is whether a crime has been committed or not.

The Police were wrong about their interpretation of the law regarding exercise and they were wrong about what constitutes a picnic.

They had the opportunity to publicly explain their actions and essentially they have issued a statement acknowledging they were wrong...

Just done my local 5 mile walk from my house. Come into contact with more people in an hour and a half than in 6 months walking in the hills.👎

Dorset police up to the same antics in Bournemouth. Three plods arrested a woman for sitting on a park bench on her own. Cuffed her and put in a van. Perhaps she gave them some lip. Apparently, Patel has told the cops to crack down - a single warning followed by an immediate ÂŁ200 fine for not complying.

Not read all the comments above, but I went for a walk at the exact same spot, Foremark reservoir three weeks ago before lockdown. One of the women came from Ashby de la Zouch. It is 5 miles, but there is only one small village between Ashby and Foremark. It really is local. This is South Derbyshire not the Peak district. That park is used mostly by locals. A bit heavy handed by the police hanging around there to catch people out. They would be more productive in the centre of Derby I'm sure.

You always get the ones who dont give a toss. Dont tell me your one of them that dont believe it's real.
It's real but it doesn't mean we have to interpret all the rules and guidance in the same way as you.
Driving 5 miles to a reservoir for a walk is in no way the same as having 50 people in your house for a party!
I dont want to criticize but opinions like yours polarise people and set them against each other, most people can find a way of behaving appropriately in the middle ground.

Personal experience and statistics back up my statement. I suggest you read the area's press.
As mentioned before, I'm ex-Derbyshire plod and except for the odd discretion, my Force is generally well thought of. No Force is perfect, and likewise opinions can be divided by some officers.

So Boris drives 7 miles to cycle round the Olympic Park. Another fine example. Good job he hasn't had a cup of tea or the full force of the law would be brought down.

Hasn't this been outed by the boys in blue as an anti-vaxxer stunt?

Even if she was she was arrested for failing to give her name when she was pulled for sitting on a bench
Wasn't it just a bunch of anti vaxxers trying to make a point? I don't know if that's the case or not of course but, just say it were, I would say a light tazering was too good for them.

The Police can arrest someone suspected of anti-social behaviour. Flouting anti-COVID restrictions counts as anti-social in my book.
If it was an anti-lockdown stunt then she got what she deserved.

Fines withdrawn and apology issued, the women in question say they have drawn a line under it. Hopefully, Police Services have learnt something 👍
