Don’t start me on Bowler.

Said it before - the only Blackpool player who gets fans on their feet - necessity at home but maybe a luxury away from home.

Still very frustating at times but those two assists will do him a world of good...we have some great young players in Lavery, Bowler and Carey that we could only have dreamt of having two seasons ago.Id love to see some graduates from our own academy but realistically the way forward is to unearth these jems in the way we are...great scouting.

Bowler fluffs passes, gets tackled easily at times and doesn't chase back. We can all see that. BUT, he's one of our few players who can make things happen. He concentrates the mind of opposition defenders and when he starts he puts us on the front foot quickly.
As said above, two assists will help his confidence. Also, one good run at the defence with a shot just over the bar was worth watching. 8/10 from me.

And another late run when the score was 1-1 and they were looking the much more likely that got the ball from one end of the pitch to the other, even though he tamely lost it in the end. But it relieved the pressure.

Brought a friends son to the game yesterday and he left the game raving about Bowler. I thought he was excellent all game and it is noticeable that after he does his first tiptoe through the tulips in a game how is scares the pants off the opposition. He occupies two of three people and creates space elsewhere which we need to get better at exploiting.

An utter bell tip behind me (who must have been a clear genius of a player himself, but somehow found himself simply watching), was screaming at Josh from kick off and wanted him subbing after 5 minutes.

HE… ASSISTED…2 GOALS.

If any of his ‘errors’ or ‘frustrations‘ weren't there, he’d be playing for Liverpool or Man City, not us. Ask any Championship defender how they fancy it playing against him. He’s a brilliant, still young, talent.

I am sure the words of wisdom from Pele behind me in the West really spurred him on yesterday.

Same as any winger through history, sometimes the run works, sometimes it gets read. When he's in full flow, he's our most exciting player.

Whether he's better on the left or right, that for Critch to decide not me, in how he wants the the team set up. But I do think it's noticeable that his work off the ball is higher than the start of the season. He lost out in a couple of 50-50 in the middle of the field yesterday, where a stronger winning challenge would have put us in a great position.

He's a young lad with loads of potential and confidence is key to it. After recent weeks that must be lower than the start, and I think the team gathered round him after his involvement in the goals.

I remember United fans getting frustrated with a young Ronaldo because despite all his trickery he couldn’t cross a ball to save his life! Obviously we cannot compare the two but let’s give the lad a chance, I’m sure he’ll prove his worth in the end, and yesterday he did just that!

I am really pleased that Bowler is a Blackpool player. He pre-occupies and frightens championship sides defences by running at them and gets fans of their seats. It does not always come off and it can be frustrating but he is young and i believe he is only going to get better.

good post. It never ceases to amaze me how some of our fans think that opposition full backs are there just to allow our players to go past them and centre halves are just there to allow Madine to win every header.

There's things he did well yesterday however some he didn't.

We have to take that and for me I'd pick him as a starter.

But for eg when Gabriel was running at them down the wing for me Bowler should have been level with the last defender but hugging the touchline, so he can then run in at speed with more space.

But just thinking of his passes yesterday they were simples balls in to feet, maybe that what he's worked on, instead of looking for some perfect cross sometimes a firm pass across is much better.

Let's not get giddy saying if he had a final ball he'd be playing at Citeh.
He could possibly play for a Brighton or a similar premier league team but at the moment he's miles from that.
I love the excitement when he gets the ball but all too often he's easily tackled and loses the ball more often than not.
To the poster who was raving he assisted twice yesterday, terrific, will we have to wait til Fulham away before his next game where he gets an assis? Its normally that long between effective games.

I need to defend Bowler , he does chase back - he did it yesterday and remember a Nobbers breakaway when he chased back the whole pitch with a defender , in that magnificent win 2-0 !!

Agreed , TWO very siginificent assists.

Absolutely, he does work hard and is part of our press, and I've seen him track back loads of times. He's not particularly strong in the tackle but it's not really his game, Gary Brabin didn't skin full backs and put balls in the box because it wasn't part of his.

Over reaction alert. 🙄
Couldn’t agree more. He was the major threat in the first 25 mins. After the goalie got injured they put their wide midfielder further back therefore showing Bowler and Gabriel a lot of respect. That was our outlet. I wish so called supporters would stop slagging off our own players, especially when it’s based on ignorance.

Indeed. It's almost like there's some element of competition involved.

I knew it would come at some point! 🤣.

His performance yesterday was laughable, at the very best. I’m not sure what it is with him, maybe he is better as an impact sub?
Is that for real!!! He's our most creative player. The team are in their first season back in the championship and are learning under the guidance of Critch and some people on here expect him to play like Messi and the team to be top of the league. The team could do with some fans being a bit more realistic and appreciative for what we've achieved so far and get behind them more. Unbelievable.

My bad. Bring back Rory Prendergat 😬

I think the problem with Bowler and some of our fans views is that he played too well at the beginning of the season. No winger beats his man everytime, not many are prolific in front of goal and only the very best can deliver with pin-point accuracy with every/most crosses. Whilst we know Josh has tons of ability, we also have to accept he is going to frustrate. The key for me is keeping his confidence up so that he continually tries to do the right things and create havoc and openings. What I do know is that we are more likely to score with Bowler in the team, let's just keep backing all the lads, we've had a blip, hopefully we can now kick on again.

Agree. Said as much all season. Has to play for me. We look so much better with him in the team and he was tracking back better on Saturday. 👍

trouble for me is that our fans want Bowler to be as George Best at his peak.
Reality is that he was released by a prem club, Critch thought he had something to work with but he is young.
Bowler is exciting and inconsistent in equal measures, inconsistent is what you usually get from young players of all sports unless the very elite.
I'm sure Bowler will be a very useful player for us

This is what most, level headed observers can see. A player with talent and some spark, that isn't (and may never be) the finished article. As 20's alluded too earlier in the thread, we have some supporters who deem him to have failed every time he doesn't go past his man. As though it's a foregone conclusion. As with so many things there's no shades of grey. A player is either World class or Sunday league.

What would be great is to have Bowler down the right and CJ down the left. With Bowler‘S trickery and CJ’s pace they would hopefully terrorise defences.
Casting back to the days of Ince and Phillips against Middlesbrough when Tony Mowbray said, because of their pace, they were unplayable on the night. Same against Ipswich and Leeds United if I remember correctly.

thought this was interesting, considering what we saw in his absence and his positive performance vs Posh i'd say it's his place to lose now.

You come here with your fancy graphics saying he's one of the best players in the League...

Compare with "I've made up my mind and nothing will change it" on here.

Think this certainly backs up @20togo 's point.

Also think it's telling @Middxile doesn't really post other than the initial OP. It's a bit of a wind up, really. Which is better than thinking he is actuall a "passenger"

I can smell a “revisit” thread here…

Just like those joyous Critch ones and even Jerry Yates, where weeks down the line, we have a little revisit and smugly show the poster(s) know shit
Then we have those said posters making excuses of saying how sad that the thread was bumped….

I want to put myself forward to be fully scorned if Bowler doesn’t have a storming game in next few weeks and destroys the opposition.

I await fervently with true smugness and even potentially a bit of sneering thrown in 😁

Come on, you just knew that was going to happen 😂

He's improved a lot over the past few months, he's no longer a passenger defensively and his team play is much better. Huge credit to the coaching team and Bowler himself.

I can’t believe someone has bumped this thread again……

What are these clubs doing showing strong interest in such a poor player?
