England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 v Italy 🇮🇹 Euro Final 🏆 Official Thread 11.07.21

The better side won, we were shit after half an hour and why did the 2 kids take pens? Why didn't Grealish stand up? What about Sterling? I just don't get it. But to be honest the best team of the tournament won. I can't say that was enjoyable, it was frustrating and to put pressure on those 2 young lads was wrong wrong wrong. I still don't like Southgate, but well done to the young team, you deserve a more attack minded manager.

Awful decisions on the pens and I've consistently said about the negative tactics all tournament.

Those players are down from not playing hardly any part and obviously happy to come on but it's like.... we don't want you in the game but you take a penalty.

I would have thought that's an obvious no no.

I’m not going to skate then for losing to a good Italy team on pens in a final. Well done England. Shame we couldn’t finish the job. There’s an argument to say that young lads don’t carry the penalty baggage of older hands and might perform better with them.

Won’t get a better chance at Wembley. We needed a second goal having scored so early…mistake to try and defend for so long.

Southgate cost us that with his hesitant substitutions , decent pace up top in extra time would have torn them apart,
Probably be our best chance at a trophy too and now it'll be a what if we used our best players in a positive way. Watch as people like foden take the piss in the prem next season.

Hey ho! You got to be there to lose it, and we were and unfortunately we did. Anyway only a couple of weeks till next season.

We didn’t deserve it far too negative tonight
Far too defensive from Southgate should have pushed on for the second goal.
Indeed if truth be known we were lucky it went to pens.
That's what I couldn't figure out, we weren't even challenging for the ball in the second half, Italy didn't have to work.

Don’t blame Grealish or Sterling, Southgate picked the penalty takers. The manager takes the plaudits he should also shoulder the blame.

I didn't wait four weeks. I said Southgate was shit going into this tournament and I say he's shit now. He has the best young talent we've ever had and most of it has been on the bench for three weeks.
Yeah, we were shit the entire tournament, well done you.

Shit game management but if anyone won it other than us, I'm pleased it's Italy. Their defence alone is a flashback to Serie A highlights on Ch4

The pundits are going on about how superior Italy are, we gave 'em that match with the negative second-half tactics. To win the ball you have to challenge for it.

I have to agree with the majority. Too negative, poor use if substitutes, poor choice for penalty takers, still warming up, young lad for the most pressurized penalty.absolutely rubbish decisions.

What a disappointing way to lose.

When the Italians stepped up a gear, we didn't make the changes required.

Penalties were a disaster and Southgate will accept he made an error.

Shame as that was winable.

And all of this from Linekar about their time will come; I hope he's right, but we have just lost possibly the best chance in my lifetime of winning something.

Now to console a 12 year old...

Hugely disappointing; once it’s gone we can point fingers at Southgate or those who missed, but England did great for most of this tournament. I’ve watched England at many a tournament and this is better than the vast majority of them.

on to the World Cup.

The best team did win, but now we suffer the Mystic ** Megs.
Anybody can win a game if it is handed to 'em. Southgate played the correct tactics in the first half, why change? If Italy were so superior they would have finished it in 90mins.

We didn’t deserve to win that game and the safety first approach hurt us. We were crying out for players to show in the second half and GS failed to adapt to the dominance of Italy. He needed Grealish on much earlier to try and get hold of the ball and to stem what was a non-stop tide. Of course the World Cup in Qatar will be much harder, but we can - and need to - learn from that.

The better team won.

Italy had twice as much possession and three times more shots on target.

Southgate's luck ran out!!!

Because when you win the first half 1 0 against a good team the second half will be different, Southgate maybe got it wrong but once you stop playing for the school team you can't just say same again second half lads!!

Not easy to say, but Italy deserved to win the tournament because they were the best overall team IMO. Southgate needs to re examine his negative tactics in this tourney and start planning for Qatar with a more positive attitude. Don’t think he’ll be replaced as manager due to the fact he is still the second best to Sir Alf Ramsay. Ok that’s over, bring on my real love: Bristol City vs Blackpool 7/08/2021. Come on you Pool!!❤️

They were given that possession, how many challenges for the ball were there in the second half? The tactics were to let them come forward and hope the defence could hold, which they did bar once, and that cost us the match.

Yep, we just need to put the best technical players on the pitch and go for it with a positive style. If we lose attacking we lose.

An opportunity missed here. Well never know of we could have beat Italy with Foden, Grealish, Sancho etc on as well and going for it.
