England v Malta Match Night

Malta have brought loads judging by the crowd reaction to that goal.

tbh England should be given a bye until the QF of any competetion.

And so should about another dozen top ranked teams but what to FIFA do? Increase the number of clubs at the next World Cup. 🤷‍♂️

I expected a reply like that from you.
Them rankings are shite and how many times do we see a shock result in FA Cup from a non league side.

please be positive for once.
We are now 3-0 up.!
We’re 2-0 up and we’re playing shite man up to it.

No wonder your a fan of Critchley if you think this is ok. 😴 🛌

I’ve not watched an England game since the last World Cup it’s bad enough watching a negative team week in week out without watching another during the break another generation of talent wasted on an inept manager

I’m sure his paymaster’s in the FA will be delighted with the 2 goals and clean sheet against the mighty Maltese.

I am on a Cruise. Snorkled at the very Southern tip of California and docking in Los Angeles in the morning. Enough time to watch Pool game( 7 am ) before our Coach trip up the Coast to San Francisco via Monterry and Hearse Castle.
Sounds rad, was it by Cabo? I’ve been Baja and California a few times as I worked for an OC based company for years.

Never done a cruise but the Mrs is getting keen so I don’t think it’ll be far off

Cheating is embarrassing.
Of course it’s cheating in a sense but its also called playing the game. One reason why other nations have developed their international game quicker than us. At last we’ve cottoned on and wised up to what is required. Carry on Harry as far as I am concerned

Cheating is not playing the game. I’d rather lose than a win a game by cheating.

It’s a shame you don’t apply that ethos to moaning..I don’t dispute that England were very poor but if there was a World Cup for being a miserable moaning bastard then you would be the undisputed world champion. Let’s hope you find some positivity about Blackpool today.

If anything sums up my frustration about Gareth it’s his selections last night, bare in mind we’ve qualified and are playing Malta.

He could have easily put TAA at right back, Trippier LB and let Tomori have a go at CB, his natural position. Klopp never plays Trent in midfield so why is he insisting with this? Which takes me onto the next point….

A midfield 3 of Gallagher, Trent & Henderson. Give me strength. Then you’ve someone who’s had a good start to the season like James Ward-Prowse not even selected yet there’s a right back starting ahead of him in midfield, Henderson isn’t the answer and never has been.

Rashford has been shocking this season and yet he starts?

His choices are just baffling week in week out and his loyalty to players who don’t deserve it. They’ve never let him down is the lazy phrase often thrown about, what a load of bollocks. A proper manager would have won a major trophy with the talent available and Euro 2024 will be a similar story with this buffoon in charge.

Definitely. Finding some positivity about Blackpool is extremely difficult at present but one can live in hope.

think you'll find that TAA regularly pushes into all parts of the midfield when he plays for Liverpool. That clearly is what Klopp wants him to do. An orthodox full/wing back he is not.

Malta did what a lot of poorer teams do against the better side. They put a lot of players behind the ball and make it very difficult for teams to break them down because of the sheer number of defenders. It makes for boring football. Especially when teams continue with that tactic even after going 1.0 just to avoid a heavy defeat. They then just hope for a lucky break away goal.
There is no way you can stop it.
Maybe seeding the better teams so they dont have to go through these turgid qualifying matches.

France play Gibraltar today. It will be interesting to see how they set about dismantling them.

Why would you want to win anything cheating and falling over trying to con a referee? Fortunately it gets called out a lot in this country, not enough but we are all the better for it. Nothing annoys me more than players cheating trying to get players sent off or a free kick/ penalty and its totally embarrassing and then they whinge and moan when something goes against them. How can you advocate watching all that? It does referees no favours either as if they haven't got enough pressure as it is to get things right.

I agree re rollling around etc but I am talking about being smarter, so when clipped go down instead of trying to stay on feet. Same with Harry, he knew that keeper was making contact. No issue with any of that or we’ll be waiting another sixty years for any kind of silverware.

How many players get booked or a foul given against them for arriving a split second late into a tackle and they get the man not the ball? Happens in every match many times over. That's what happened last night with Kane. Kane got there first and the keeper made contact which he still would have done even if Kane hadn't made sure he did. It was a penalty just as it would have been a free kick if it had been two outfield players outside the box. In fact that's what Tomori was booked for.

Well done England.
Easily qualified in front of over 81000 fans.
Well done Malta on such a gutsy performance.

Look forward to reading Shrewsbury match thread
Were you genuinely happy with that performance?
I turned over and watched totp '78 then a documentary on Marc Bolan.

2-0 against a bloody pub team whilst Italy put Macedonia to the sword and you're congratulating England on a shite 2-0 victory 🤦

Some people are easily pleased. 😴

it was 3-2 til the 81st minute. We were winning 2-0 by then so at that point whose result was more in the balance? And here you go. The two Euro qualifier results were Italy 1 England 2 and England 3 Italy 1. I'd suggest those two results are/were more important than our result against Malta and Italys against North Macedonia. Sure, last nights performance was poor but we'd already got the job done and that was reflected by the performance.

Sorry 20's have to disagree.
Irrespective of whether England had qualified or not Malta should have been buried last night.

In fact, if I'd been Southgate I'd have told the players to go for it from the off, entertain the supporters.
Like you say, the result didn't matter and what if Malta had won one nil? (Like that was ever going to happen)

I have no idea how much the tickets were last night but I'd have expected more if I'd bought a ticket, I was lucky enough to be able to turn the channel over.
In fact the highlight of the night was the tribute to Sir Bobby Charlton.

we'd all have hoped and expected for more but the players were going thru the motions at times. We'd already won the group, players didn't want to get injured etc. Yep, all excuses of course but sometimes that's just the way it is.

Sir Bobby would have been turning in his grave watching that dross.

A journeyman mercenary who currently plays in front of crowds of less than 1,000 (whilst trying to spread the football gospel) holding the midfield berth. 😣

that was dross last night though 20s is right (did I just say 20s is right ?) pretty much a dead rubber as will be mondays game dont expect to see anything different . players will go through the motions and do the job
