JJ Pool is correct. If you have Apple then NFC (tap and go) is always on.

On Android like the Samsung you often need to go into your settings and enable NFC or enable it for that specific app. It’s why people are trying to use the barcode rather than switching on NFC and just tapping the reader
 
The company’s that produce plastic cards are stopping doing them so things have to change and rather than being hit straight away they are phasing cards out I’ve not neither has any of my family members had any issues getting in but I suppose when u have people trying to get in while having phones etc in pockets 😂 will always cause delays,

My lad has the iPhone and doesn't have the option of the barcode. It's not as if he doesn't understand tech and this isn't the first time it's happened. It's beyond blaming old folk who are technology dinosaurs and to be in a queue for 20 minutes, be told to go to the ticket office and then rejoin the queue is beyond unacceptable. If they don't do something and soon the club can ram their season tickets next season and I say that as a season ticket holder of many years.

My NFC is and always has been on to use for payments, but I still have to use the barcode. There is something going wrong somewhere for some people and it needs sorting.

It might be that in the app used you have to specifically go in and select NFC? Apple is universally on for all NFC many Android devices you have to go specifically into each app to select it.

I only know this as we developed a solution for gyms and Android at first was a pain compared to Apple.

Then trying to find the ticket in the wallet before eventually presenting the QR to the reader.

All that adds 2 mins so multiply by number of fans and that doesn’t help?

The stewards could / should be doing more than just standing at the gates. Going down the line ensuring people have their phone out and ready is an easy fix.

That's true but just look at the queue around you next time and think again.

It's like a supermarket queue where people don't have their payment to hand until they get right to the front.

my season tickets are on my missus phone and I get it off her as I start to walk past the north round to the west. From what I saw in the huge queues at gate 5 on tuesday, most people around me had their phones out ready for when they reached the turnstile. But it's still a fact that people are having issues getting in when we were told it would be easier and quicker.

I agree. What frustrates me is the Club seem to be refusing to admit there is a problem. They should be apologising, setting out exactly what the problems are and telling people how they intend to fix things. This clearly wasn't fully tested before implementation otherwise these problems would have been picked up. That really is inexcusable for a professional club. The only comments I've seen from the club inferred the fans were to blame in not downloading the ST correctly. If I'm wrong I'm happy to be corrected.

I have a 4G android Samsung and my NFC is definitely on but I still have to use the barcode.....
 
So my gym went over to this recently - and it works on everything - entrance. machines, car park etc - and I spoke to reception the other day and asked if they'd had any problems and they said bar a few older technophobes not at all. Have we just bought a cheap system?!

But your gym doesn't have 10,000+ people all trying to use the system within a short timeframe. Personally I think we should blame the national lottery as they funded the North and west stands construction back in 2002 as we're not seeing issues in the South stand as badly as in the north and west stands
