Why is McCarthy still in charge after a completely unacceptable performance and team selection against our biggest rivals?

He should be potted immediately and the job given to one of our youth coaches until the end of the season

Enough is enough we are sleep walking to relegation with this bloke in charge, a man who is so stubborn he won't play our better players

Read the room please

If they don't pot him before Friday, then the club have no ambition or want to stay up. Wouldn't surprise me if they're just not sacking him because they don't want to pay out on any bonuses promised...
I am sure McCarthy and TC will be entitled to their full bonus if they are sacked whilst it is still mathematically possible we can stay up. I am equally sure that this bonus is substantial as it was put there to fully incentivise Mick and TC to turn this situation around. Mick appears to have had a completely free hand regarding style of play, team formations, tactics and choice of his starting X1 and substitutions. Some of the players were involved during the week before the QPR game but that involvement seems to have disappeared into the ether. I guess Mick McCarthy reports to Ben, I am surprised Ben & Simon have not exerted some influence especially in the way we are set up at away games. With only 7 games to go, if we were to lose the 6 pointer against Cardiff on Friday, McCarthy could end up stinking the whole place out and his short tenure as our Manager could affect us for several seasons to come.

Should be playing our best 11 every single game. Not 7 defenders when we need to attack and score goals
Leaving the best players on the bench and out of the 18 completely is absolutely ridiculous and I’m not just talking about last saturday
McCarthy has left the better players on the bench loads of times since he came in
We all saw the difference in the second half on Saturday when the better players came on after half time ( this told me McCarthy knew he’d got it all wrong and fucked up big time) I knew he had when I saw the line up at 11.30

Can I also ask why the manager doesn't insist on the whole squad travelling together for one of the biggest games of the season

Bowler on the coach and Patino in a cafe in South Shore whilst the rest turn-up in drips and draps is completely unacceptable and unprofessional

McCarthy should be sacked for that alone

We still need someone to act as an enforcer in the middle of the park though mate. We might get away with it against some sides, but it’s a massive issue for us…
We need to fully utilise the player resources we have got in the positions where they can influence results, no point concerning ourselves about injured players or players we could and should have signed or players who are struggling to perform consistently. Either Dougall or Connolly needs to play as the defensive midfielder with attacking players on either side of him. Dougall and Connolly and the defenders should be told to win the ball, keep possession and use short accurate passes to an attacking player rather than the Hollywood balls and hoofs up the pitch. I firmly believe especially in our current position that the best form of defence is attack. Compare the 1st and 2nd halves against Preston, we were the better side in the second half and the damage was done in the first half. Personally I don’t think we defend properly and we look vulnerable at set pieces so why do we invite teams forward and continually expose our defensive weaknesses when we play away from home. Under McCarthy we are extremely poor at coming back after we concede the first goal so we need to get on the front foot and aim to score the 1st goal just like we did in Mick’s only 2 wins so far against QPR and Fulham.

Yeah been a bit unlucky with Trybull, Bridcutt and Stewart I guess

But it all comes down to the policy again for signing injury prone or unfit players on the cheap
It's not unlucky. We knew the injury records of Trybull and Bridcutt when we signed them and they have seen first hand the issues that Stewart has. He barely played last season.

Central midfield should have been bolstered a long time ago and for some reason they haven't addressed it. It's criminal.

Saturday was really bad cos against Preston ……but the same as all MM matches ex QPR and Burnley . Appleton potted cos of the ‘doom & gloom’ he created. MM gone far beyond this, killing all hope. Farcical if he stays - would show no manager ‘plan B’ for 3rd time in 10 months. Unfortunately, we rely on BM as only Board member with football or large company experience. Succession plans for key roles is one of the fundamentals of any Board

Need to fully focus on what we have got and get the best team out there who can win 4 matches. We can have a drains up at the end of the season. There is just one space left in the squad now which I assume will go to Ekpiteta so even if Stewart makes a miraculous recovery he isn’t going to play this season.

How do you know this? Poor if true

Reckon this is spot on, as they'd claim breach of contract and full payment if it's possible to still avoid relegation when they're fired.
BUT it is easy to know who our best players are - and play them. Mick needs to wake up and smell the coffee.
Nothing against these lads personally, but preferring the likes of CJ to Bowler and Kenny to Patino or Poveda illustrates shocking judgement - along with playing five at the back when we need a win. I get the clean sheet and a breakaway winner angle, but FFS - the 5 at the back looked clueless about their roles, and were utterly incapable of keeping a clean sheet. CJ couldn't kick his way out of a paper bag.

Spot on - didn't I see some drove there too? The team should always travel together. Cannot believe this was allowed to happen or sanctioned by the management - astonishing.

Don't forget Ward has been in there as well.

Connelly is the closest we have, far better than Dougall at that role.

7 million reasons to get rid of and that's before the loss of matchday income, it makes any compo a drop in the ocean.

And when we do go down we need to start again

Get some proper plans in place with a style and a manager to have a pattern of play instead of all this chaos

What we also need to do is reduce season tickets massively and get back to trying to create a fortress at home, fuck off the idea of given away fans over a third of the crowd and look after our own

No more own goals with £30 price points and giving up home advantage

We need to get Project Blackpool back on track and actually have a Blackpool way instead of just bullshit sound bites

Proper scouting where we target players instead of just going for cheap out of contract injury prone duffers

The whole thing this season has been a cluster fuck of incompetence and it needs to stop ✋

All we can do is tell Connolly to chuck himself about then give it to one of the other 5.

That's it.

I don't think Jud could step up into midfield, Gabriel is too tempted to try and play football to do that job.

It's Connolly in the role or no one.

My understanding is that the team coach travelled from Bloomfield Rd with only Bowler on it. (He got a new car last week so was probably frightened of leaving it in Preston).
I think the coach went to the Preston Marriott where all the players met up, travelled together to Dumpdale and vice versa.

Patino having breakfast in the Dunes cafe and players making their own way to the Marriot

Amateur stuff

I know post match they definitely didn't all travel back together. I saw Poveda being picked up in his blacked out Range Rover on the car park outside the ground opposite Moor Park. Not sure what the others did.

I now perhaps feel a little harsh on the lad in saying to my godson if he wasn't travelling with the team maybe that's why he hasn't settled. If everyone was just doing their own thing though then it's no surprise we look like individuals a lot of the time. And the morning of that game in particular they should all be together, getting each other up for the challenge, not dossing about and turning up in dribs and drabs. That's poor man management.

On this I agree with you, Phil. Something is amiss. In fact it feels like we haven't really had much professionalism all season under either manager if I'm honest.

It can sometimes be seemingly little things too. Like was losing our 'elder statesman' Keogh and his undoubted professional influence on others much more devastating than we realised? I think that really hurt us.

Admittedly Phil, you claimed from the off that McCarthy was a bad appointment and its now proven you were correct in your assessment.
However you were also very vocal in not giving our existing staff a chance. That comment above is one hell of a change in a month.

On Dobbie or Eardley being suggested 27 Feb 2023 you commented

(1) 'So he's done nothing yet people want him in charge of a Championship football club, It's ** bizarre'
(2) 'What's he done to deserve a chance of managing us?'
(3) 'We are a Championship club, appointing Dobbie who works with our youth players is akin to appointing the manager of Bamber Bridge or something given the standard of our youth'

Bowler heard McCarthy was going to park the bus at Deepdale so he reckoned his best chance to play in the game was to get on the bus,

Yeah we are a month further on with only 7 games left so a caretaker manager is the only option to try and save our season

It's not rocket science pal

My fear is that Dino Mick and Terry Dactyl are on contracts that are structured to pay a reasonable wage but SUBSTANTIAL bonus if we stay up, that the club would be sued for if the contract is terminated before were mathematically relegated. I fear that the club have now got themselves in a financial position where they can’t afford to get rid of the terror lizards now and risk still being relegated.
I hope I’m wrong but seldom are, I’m afraid that the board have completely mismanaged the last 10 months and are now caught between a rock and a hard place, they have placed all of their dinosaur eggs in the MM basket and we are fucked. Sorry!

It's far worse than that Phil it's gross misconduct on the part of more than just DinoMick as someone must have overseen this whopper of an own goal.
Team spirit my arse......
Gross misconduct my arse !

Now we’re just getting silly..

Personally I’ve no idea of the actual facts and without those I’ve no right to comment.

Got to agree with that.

The team travelling as one is essential.

I even think for home games the players should all meet up prior at a hotel and have a pre-match meal together with the correct dietary ingredients, and then turn up at the ground in a “team coach”.

I believe it enhances “team spirit” and it’s a “team game” after all.

What happened on Saturday stinks of “anything goes”🙄🙄

The bottom line is that whilst the club hasn't got the resources to buy success, it has the ability to make much better use of the resources we have.

Grimmy was the 3rd best keeper in the division in terms of goals prevented last year (i.e. XG for keepers)

Bowler is one of the best dribblers in the country, let alone the division. (Facts lads. Facts)

Poveda is a rare talent who strike fear into other teams.

Fiorini just scored a stunning international goal and is exactly what we need to knit things together

Patino is a quality player and I don't really get why he was dropped as I think he's been playing quite well of late. I got dropping him 6 weeks ago as he looked under confident, but to me, he looks decent ATM.

Rogers is bizarrely being used as a target man on the basis that he's taller than Jerry and nothing else.

That's 6 players who would definitely get in in at least one of the other championship teams being left out or misused so we can accommodate Dougall, Hamilton and so on.

I was also dead against appointing Dobbie or whoever and I really threw my heart and soul into believing Mick would get us organised - but the way we're playing now is essentially everything that was typical of a Critchley off day without any of the good bits of what we were then on the more usual decent days.

We did make some progress under Appleton for a while (no, really, we did) but we've also binned any of that off (i.e. the good attacking blitz football we managed on several occasions and the improved movement of *some* performances) as well in favour of...

I don't know. I can't fathom what the logic was.

I actually don't really blame Mick. It's like we've bought a dog and we're expecting it to be a cat. He's just doing what Mick does.

There is a front 5 or 6 there (and Carey) that could play terrific football and beat teams.

It's our only hope.

I agree with that though from fans who were around to watch the fabulous Blackpool team in the 50's several said a certain diminutive midfielder used to be drinking in his local on the morning of home games then the pub phone would ring and the message would be " Tell Ernie to start making his way to the ground now!"😀
