Fair enough, although as the debate was about Remembrance weekend I was only looking at cenotaphs and war memorials.

And as far as I can tell there was only Rochdale that fell into that category

That’s not true.

He actually said it’d get messy but it was controllable.

He had no legal power to stop it unless he had concerns the Met couldn’t cope. Police Commissioners can’t just invent the law as they go along. Despite what the Home Secretary seems to think.

He was spot on.

I haven't said anything but we've let people into this country that don't share our values. It's pretty clear to see, on many instances, this is correct.

But we don't actually know who we've let it at times do we.

As for the monuments being defaced I know of the Rochdale one (where two teenagers have been arrested) but no others. Someone (I think it was Tommy Two Jags but might be wrong) claimed there’d been one in Manchester but that turned out to be the Rochdale one. 20s said there’d been one in Leigh but as it was in September (and before the murders on 7 October) it obviously wasn’t related to the current troubles at all. The graffiti was something like “Keighton” so a vandal leaving his tag rather than a political statement. 20s actually apologised for his mistake!

I have no idea whether he’s lying. I’ve actually said in the post you’re replying to “it’s not clear”. Like you I can only rely on what’s published in the reliable media (as opposed to less reliable sources). The reliable media say the police are not investigating.

Meanwhile you’re claiming lots of war memorials have been attacked. Apart from Rochdale (and this afternoon The Cenotaph in Whitehall attacked by TR’s thugs) can you provide evidence of any others?

Even the Daily Mail is condemning the actions of the RW thugs today. Can you?

I've not said all people who arrive are bad, only we've had no control for years and are letting in some with completely different values. Also we have boats of young men arriving daily and nothing is done.

These people could be anybody.

We don't have as strong an identity, like in thr USA, where people come in and integrate and feel American, or in this case British.

We've been far to weak in standing up for who we are incase we offend.

You do know this guy appears in lots of different berets, don't you? Not sure which one he was wearing on this occasion. The CCTV was examined carefully, there was nothing actionable.

I've seen a few videos of crowds with not a lot happening.

Clearly some of them are idiots pissed up and what not.

All seems unnecessary and obvious what would happen, with the apparent threat of war heroes being disrespected with the march allowed to go ahead.

What are 'our values ' , or more pertinently what are yours ? . I think statistically our 'natives' are far more problematic.
This governments values perhaps, punish the poor, punish the working class, fill theirs and their mates pockets, screw the unions, screw the NHS, Set citizen against citizen? Those values maybe?

Well if you read the Daily Mail articles and watch the videos (and I repeat - that’s the Daily Mail articles) they do seem quite graphic. And not complimentary at all.

But only yesterday we had a supporters group claiming they’d had a meeting with “the directors of the club”.

Lots of people (including people who thought they might be members of that particular supporters group) assumed that meant the directors of BFC. Obviously as it transpired that wasn’t the case.

This is often the problem with “taking a bloke at his word”. Or assuming they wouldn’t lie. Sadly sometimes people do tell lies.

At the end of the day it all boils down to the police letting this Palestinian march go ahead.

Had they not allowed it they wouldn’t have had to close off the cenotaph and these left wing groups wouldn’t have marched there in the first place as they only gathered in numbers in disgust at the other march still going ahead let’s call in a show of arms.

The Police got it wrong in allowing the march to go ahead and I’ll keep repeating it they have caused this agro today when it could have been prevented.

I’m not sure about pre cancelling any group though, which was what was inferred previously.
That’s setting a very dangerous precedence.

They can only “ban” a march if they think they can’t control it (even then they can’t ban it. They have to ask the Home Secretary to ban it). The Commissioner decided he could control it and it seems he has. So he was right. And there’s a hundred or so drunken hooligans off the streets.

I think we have found a bit of a diamond with this police chief tbh. Independent. Prepared to stand up to bullying politicians. And reign in the drunken and bullying riff raff on the streets. And bang them up.

What’s not to love?

You're right of course. It's the chosen date that is the problem. Marching this weekend was nothing more than provocation on the part of the protesters. It's not like the date has any historical significance for the Palestinians. For all the criticism of the government, police etc the issue could have been resolved without controversy by postponing the march until next week.

We’re never going to agree so no point arguing.

It’s no different to those on here calling out Israel for the bombings in Gaza killing 10,000 civilians.

Some people just can’t understand had Hamas not attacked Israel on 07/10/23 they would all still be here today.

Had the march been cancelled then none of this would have happened either today.

It’s not hindsight it’s a fact.

Totally agree, returned from Bolton fearing then worst but it looks like the Met have controlled the day very well, inspite of the government's and Home Secretary's best efforts to stoke hatred and incite violence.
