FIFA President

"Today I have strong feelings. Today I feel Qatari, I feel Arab, I feel African, I feel gay, I feel disabled, I feel a migrant worker." 🙄

They are so far up their own arses, that they believe the crap they spout.
It needs, national football associations to sideline them by creating their own competition. Probably only take a dozen or so to set the wheels in motion.
Completely agree Tangy. Get even just, say England, Germany, Spain, Italy, France and add Brazil, Argentina to commit and the rest would follow.

Unfortunately won't happen of course. They're all as bad as each other

yep, pretty shameful speech from him. It just needs one of the big nations to say we ain't playing and hopefully others would follow. Shouldn't be England leading the way though as I reckon we're not so well liked around the world and we'd be left isolated. And rightly or wrongly outside of Europe I'm not sure some of the other bigger football nations are as strong in their feelings to the various problems that it being held in Qatar has caused.

This tournament should have been boycotted years ago, it's way too late now.

Agree about a breakaway, ala PDC darts being set up to benefit the people competing instead of lining the pockets of the organisation, the PDC became the dominant force and the BDO now doesn't exist.
All it takes is 10 top nations to withdraw from all FIFA competition, set up their own tournament and more would follow. The worry is you know full well FIFA would make it as hard as possible, they would spin it to be similar to the 'European Superleague', they'd ban the associations club teams playing in UEFA/FIFA competitions etc and that would end up being the back door for the Superleague idea to come to fruition. It would be a complete mess, but something needs to change.

there's enough previous stuff around Infantino to suggest it's all about money for him. And where there's money there's corruption.

This man dares to call others hypocrites.

Instead the Presidency of FIFA was awarded to Gianni Infantino, a man who started working for UEFA in 2000 and became the head of the organisation’s Legal Affairs and Club Licensing Division in 2004. He was promoted to General Secretary in 2007 and then the confusingly named Secretary General two years after that. In April of 2016, however, his name was also dragged into the corruption quagmire that had seemed to infect everything it touched.

The now infamous ‘Panama Papers’, which are 11.5 million documents that got leaked and detailed how numerous wealthy individuals used illegal offshore accounts for such things as fraud and tax evasion, revealed that Infantino co-signed papers with a company owned by a man named Hugo Jinkis. Jinkis was indicted in America for £100 million worth of fraud.

The wrongdoing of Infantino in this matter was to do with the same TV rights being sold for cheap and resold for much more money thing that we talked about earlier, though UEFA released a statement saying that at the time it occurred there was no reason to believe there was anything suspicious about the deal. Sufficed to say, it may be harder to find someone involved with either FIFA or UEFA who has not done something wrong over the last twenty or thirty years than it will be to find someone who has.

I listened to his rant this morning and he seemed to be saying he justifies the death of 6000 migrant workers because of what the west did 3000 years ago. If so he accepts it’s Corporate Homicide and needs prosecuting. He also knows what discrimination is as he had ginger hair and freckles.

The game, on a worldwide scale, is dead, unfortunately.
Memories of World Cups gone by, as described in previous threads, when we were so excited at this stage, anticipating a feast of football, with a glimmer of hope our nation might succeed, are so distant.
Domestically, greed and inequality have ruined opportunities for smaller clubs to progress and so little homegrown talent is nurtured that schoolchildren( boys, rather than girls, perhaps) generally no longer dream of representing their country, intead focusing on making millions from social media platforms.
Congrats to FIFA for winning the World Cup

Your right they don't care about us, they started the tournaments without us, after all.

Blimey, my first thought upon hearing his diatribe was to think that, considering homosexuality is illegal over there, this fella is feeling up a lot of people....!

Yeah I'm all for spreading the game and respecting customs of all countries around the world

As I've said before I've spent a bit of time in the Middle East and never had a problem

People need to embrace it and stop being so Xenophobic
You are a true beacon of hope in a sea of, seemingly, eternal negativity. Fight the good fight 👍

Infantoolo what a whopper! Who said politics and sport shouldn't mix? He was trying to justify why the corrupt FIFA Exec Committee chose Qatar for this world cup. Olly got it spot on!

The WC hasn't even started and the former ginger haired, freckle-faced Italian has already scored the biggest own goal of the tournament.

Whatever you think about him, Infantino's statement that Europeans should be apologising for what they have done to the world over the centuries is justified. Having said that, his speech is just stirring up trouble one day before the World Cup.

Personally I've no inclination to "embrace" the customs of those who live like medieval savages. Ironic that on the one hand they will impose strict Islamic laws on visitors but on the other hand want to drive the Bentley's, wear the Rolex's and have Western major sporting events.

If you go to another country, for whatever reason, you should accept its laws, its customs and culture, regardless of whether you agree with them. It's called common courtesy.
Other countries do some things differently to us. If you don't like that then don't go there or zip your mouth shut. But it seems to be a trend in this country, led by the BBC and Press, of always seeking and highlighting any negative issues, to embarrass the hosts of major events around the world. And always reported with the plummy arrogance that infers we could do it better or that our laws and customs are superior. It's no wonder that so many around the world dislike us.

There is nothing that the Muckers top brass can't sort out

Good for you, we need more people like you who don’t care about stereotypes & just crack on with life regardless, that’s what it’s all about, we shouldn’t judge people so easily
Has the fifa president had anything to say?

The same year of the last Wold Cup and not a peep that's the one thing the FIFA President got right what a total bunch of hypocrites every one is.

My view for what it is worth .
(i) Each country in the world has the right to rule itself in whatever way they see fit .
(ii) If you don't like it don't go there . Nations should boycott if they are that against the Human rights issues etc .
(iii) FIFA was & still is corrupt .
(iv) World Cup should Never have been given to Qatar in the first place .
(v) Each continent should take it in turns to host World Cup. None of this bribery sorry , bidding nonsense

Exactly all this 👍

I agree with most of that however I take issue with (iv) why shouldn’t Qatar have the world Cup?

yes i will, all of it. That's because I prefer football to politics.
In an earlier post you said that one of the biggest nations should boycott it. Sounds like a fairly political thing to say.

"yep, pretty shameful speech from him. It just needs one of the big nations to say we ain't playing and hopefully others would follow. yes, I did because FIFA is corrupt. But I still prefer football to politics. Do you? I'd suggest you don't. So will you be watching it or will your political leanings mean you won't? A simple question to answer. It's ok to admit you're not really a football person but god knows why you are posting on a BFC football forum then. That said, I've thought that for awhile about some on here. Each to our own though. 👍
