Gary Lineker

The people upset by what he said is particularly people sensitive about what happened in the war, Jewish community etc, not necessarily just people on the right as this thread is saying. He's made an abhorrent comparison, that's the reality.

He's putting them in an uncomfortable position and potentially costing them money.

I don't really care what happens to him. But he's made himself look a ** again. He's good at that.

The fact is the government need to get a grip of whats happening in the channel. You can't have boats of people making a dangerous journey in vessels that arent seaworthy, breaking rules then allowed to stay, when the vast majority aren't refugees and were in zero danger where they set off from. It shouldn't even be seen a right opinion, the vast majority of the country would agree you can't just allow unlimited numbers to come against all rules, putting power in the hands of criminal gangs and many often ending up in the criminal infrastructure. Its a huge security risk for a start.

You clearly didn’t read what he said properly and the only person ‘getting upset’ by the comments was Braverman , who abhorrently brought the Jewish element into it by mentioning family. 🙄

It's not about me reading it, I'm not writing articles or getting offended by it and complaining.

Yet that's the way its being portrayed and has gone down in parts of those communities, you clearly haven't read who's offended.

You don’t need to be a right wing nut job to disagree with what Lineker said. If the Beeb thought he broke his contract conditions they are entitled to take whatever actions are deemed appropriate. Lineker is a wealthy individual who has made his post playing career commentating almost entirely on other wealthy individuals in the premier league. I will not miss his commentary on pool matches. MOTD will probably be a better watch without the endless chite.

I call bullshit on the offended. Comparing rhetoric ( not actions!) to that of 1930’s Germany is not offending anyone apart from the right wing. He’s exactly right that the Tories are cynically using the boat issue to blame /shift focus from troubles at home with an election in mind. They’ve had 13 years to sort the issue ( and I agree there is an issue) but Lineker has tweeted his opinion about rhetoric used.
I’ll stick by anyone being offended either doesn’t understand what he said, has read third party retellings of what was tweeted, or are using offended for political gain.

People will interpret what he said in many ways given their experiences etc.

When making any sort of comparison to nazi Germany, from factual language about having control on who enters a country, knowing what the nazis did, is ridiculous, and he's only himself to blame.

I’ll stick by my opinion thanks. German rhetoric of the thirties was to build a stronger Germany whilst blaming na’gooders and shifting focus onto them for the countries woes, allowing the government to drive through mot extreme policies. Show me an example of the Jewish community being offended, outside of Tory mp’s using it to bolster their position? I still call bullshit on it.

Well found, a person who is discussing the holocaust actions rather than rhetoric leading up to that, as I said, rhetoric is not 6 million Jews being exterminated in the holocaust, it was the language used in the lead up.
Anyone would think Lineker has said something awful, rather than trying to stick up for people he sees as having no voice.
I’m sure there were similar people in Germany 1930’s who also got shouted down by those in power 👍
 
Proof we live in a country with an elected dictatorship. Controlling the media and censoring free speech. How about the Tory arseholes in government stop selling munitions to despotic countries who are waging proxy wars and bombing innocent people then maybe we wouldn't have these poor desperate people wanting to come here.

Quite a remarkable demonstration of support today really for Lineker certainly from within the world of football anyway.
