Gary Lineker

I don't care which side of the political divide Lineker is on and whether I agree with his opinion or not.
It's wrong that he can't voice an opinion. He's a sports presenter ffs not a political one.
And a very good sports presenter at that.
I could understand if he started spouting off whilst he was on tv, but this was done in
his own time.
I suppose MOTD will now be presented by Alex Scott with her worn out cliches. 🙁

All the channels are ramming womens football down our throats, whilst it’s got its place I doubt if many men actually watch it as a competitive sport. 😬
I’d add I find Lineker ok too TBF.

That bloke who roars with laughter a lot could take over. Think he play for Citeh. Or the craggy faced ex Gunner with the bad hair transplant. Or maybe just show the highlights who needs an overpaid presenter anyway.😜

It's really nothing to do with Alex Scott being a woman. It's the fact she's just not very good and brings very little to the table.
Sue Smith on the other hand is excellent.

Like Colin Murray, but isn't he ITV property?
Furthermore, don't like MOTD and swore never to watch it until we're back in the Prem

So it's fine for the boss of the beeb to arrange an 800k loan for a certain serial liar called Boris whilst applying for the job but not for Linaker to call out obviously illegal policy. OK that makes sense. How come Alan Sugar wasn't suspended for dumping on Mick Lynch? I think we should be told.

Fact is, if he's had come out in support of the policy with a comparison that way, he'd be gone fast.

It's nothing to do with free speech, it's a matter of him breaking his paymasters - the BBC guidelines. They pay him, they set the rules by which he is governed etc.

So it doesn't count if there are no photos?

If there were you'd be calling him a publicity seeking self publicist.

Bingo. Publicise it and he's doing it for the wrong reasons, don't publicise it and people question if it's true.

Play the ball, not the man.

If he did put up any number of refugees, Linkekar would have them in his family album.

He's also be posting their photo on social media everyday. Here's xxxxx having a bath, here's xxxxx having his breakfast, here's xxxxx having an afternoon nap...

Based on?

Weird post.

What a mess.
Viewers rarely have a clue who's an employee and who's a freelancer like Lineker - the BBC have shot themselves in the foot by having different standards and potential consequences for the two.

But Lineker hasn't helped himself by using the language he did.
Comparing government policy to Nazi Germany distracts from his point.
No surprise that he's been criticised by the chief exec of the Holocaust Educational Trust for using that reference.
And, in today's Times, in a column by a rabbi in Maidenhead.
And in a letter from David Bernstein (former FA chairman).

It also has unintended consequences.
Also in today's Times - Eye on Antisemitism, an online monitoring service, warned that hijacking the Holocaust had become "a huge trend". An exec added "Lineker has ignited an ember in the fire of the extreme far right. It's not OK to invoke the Holocaust to score political points".
Those comments were endorsed by the chief exec of the Association of Jewish Refugees.

I agree Rusty regarding a sports pundit voicing an opinion in his own time. It is very different from a newsreader or a political editor voicing an opinion instead of reporting facts. One could argue that ostracising someone expressing their opinion is the sort of thing that happened in Nazi Germany.....

Comparing the government policy to 1930s Germany is one thing, but the government trying to control the BBC similar to the way Putin controls the Russian media is another. Personally I (who admits to previously being a tory voter)am beginning to absolutely hate this government and think it may be time for a change.

A few weeks later, he said he'd put one up but with no evidence.

All the lefty luvvies loved it and creamed themselves.

Why did he feel the need to mention it in the first place?
Read your post back to yourself, Dollar.

In one moment, you're criticising / questioning him for providing no evidence of his housing of immigrants then in the next breath you're criticising him for ever mentioning it in the first place.

What do you want? Evidence or silence? You seem very conflicted.
