Ipswich Town v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 06.02.21

We're playing ok without looking threatening. Maxwell should have saved the goal. We are putting no pressure on them at all from corners. Really missing Madine, their centre halves can have a day off.

Overall, decent performance first half. Not much between the sides, a lapse of concentration for the first goal. Can easily come back into this, would like to see more attacking threat (subs) early second half

Had the pass been by an Ipswich player and intercepted by a Blackpool player, those who are criticising Kai Kai would have been creaming themselves at the interception. But, just my take on things, keep on criticising Kai Kai because you have to have a fall guy.

Maxwell was well beaten and shouldn't have been in my book.

It wasn’t that bad a pass a smidging off being a good one and considering the conditions to, we should of had more cover back at that stage of the half and yes I think Maxwell should be saving that. We look the best team though and considering they battered us at home that’s a good turnaround. Still win this, a little bit more thinking around the box needed, Dougall could of slipped Yates in rather than blasting wide. UTMP

What a surprise, you lot straight on Kaikai. Plays a pass that’s inches from splitting them. Is he then responsible for the defence being nowhere and Maxwell getting done.

Kaikai has played well. Get a grip!
Played a pas that was nowhere near splitting them, it went straight to their player he didn’t even need to move.

Maxwell should have saved it yes, but Kaikai should have done much more either the attack then the save wouldn’t have been required. Entirely down to Kaikai, he hasn’t had a Good game all season. He has had one or two half reasonable ones.
You can't do that gfg or you'd forever be going back. Their goal is simply down to a mistake from Maxwell.

The side was not balanced throughout that first half. Too frantic and too many mistakes.

Kaikai made some appalling blunders with his lazy style of play. Apart from the obvious lazy pass that led to their goal, there was a moment where Yates had busted his arse on the left, done two of their players, lays it off to Kaikai who was in acres of space to turn and run. But without a single turn of the head he just one touch back passes it about 25 yards into our own half, ruining Yates' hard work and killing the momentum completely. Awful

Kai Kai just wasted 20 seconds sauntering to get the ball back for the corner. Shite. Yates dire
Don’t know why you liked my post about Kaikai, we have totally different views, Kaikai has been good today.

Yates playing on his own, working hard, what more do you want? You slagged him the other night and he made a mug of you.

Very soft goal to concede. I still think Maxwell is a weak link for us. Getting beaten at the near post from 25 yards simply should not happen Too small and too fat for a goalkeeper...
He has been on fire last 8 games, saved us plenty, good distribution see Yates goal tother night. All goalies let one in now and again they perhaps shouldn’t

I am sure Ipswich fans are singing “ Can we play you every week”
First shot on target and a clinical finish.

They had 4 shots on target and scored every time in home game.

We’re kind of solid.
Some of the passing just in front of the area has been great.
some of the passing in other parts of the pitch has been woeful.

Attacking threat just isn’t there.

Poor ball by Kaikai, Thornily is out of position, Husband gets pulled inside, Maxwell underperforms. Poor all round. Kaikai is poor for me. Even in attack his default move is to pass back or sideways-back.

What are the chances we'll switch something up at half time and not bang 3 players on at once between the 75th-80th minute which totally disrupts the team?

Probably similar to Leicester winning the prem the year they won it

Didn't realise Virtue was on the pitch! I'd bring on Simms for him and give the team a bit more balance. Stewart also not in the game and needs to also step up. Gabriel has had a very good H1 as has Ekpiteta. Kai Kai looked much more interested than usual but then contributed to the goal with a sloppy pass...

Not much in it, but can't see us scoring.
Ipswich might have been poor by their standards of late, but they're no Wigan/Northampton

Some nice passing triangles, but it's mostly around the half way line.
We need to get forward and start creating chances, as someone has said, their cb's are having a day off.
We're simply not creating enough

Lively and quite entertaining today, but same old problem with playing this style of football with league one players, it often doesn’t get results.

We'll probably see a change to give Yates a bit more support I'd imagine. Simms for Kaikai or Embleton and Mitchell/Bez for Virtue.

The pitch is shit, it's a bit of a bog, passing football is harder on that. Both sides struggling with it.
Plenty of football left in this game
Simms may do something decisive when he gets on.
Lubala for Virtue would be my change

Yeh needs something like that.

I don’t mind the experiment from Critch, but Virtue isn’t the right player to be wide of a 3 in front of Dougall and Stewart and Kai Kai looks like he’s just gone completely, a few neat passes here and there but just doesn’t look like he really wants it anymore.
