A statue of Alfred Fagon a black poet was damaged today in Bristol.
The police say they are investigating this as a criminal matter.

The statue of Edward Colston was painted on, ripped down and thrown into the dock in Bristol.
The police will have photographic evidence of the people who tore down this statue in an act of criminal damage.

I wonder if they'll be investigating that case too?

When I was young, I was taught two wrongs don't make a right.

Having said that, one of the statues was an anachronism that should have been removed a long time ago, while the other was of a popular local.

I'll leave it at that.
 
It just seems strange that statues that have been in this country for centuries hardly ever got a mention, then all of a sudden because a known criminal was killed in America all hell breaks loose!!
I'm in full agreement that how George Floyd was killed was wrong and that not just black but all lives matter.
I have a feeling that some peoples agendas matter more than the majority that turned up for the protests and they were just intent in causing havoc.
Whether people think its racist or not these demonstrations, if they get out of hand need to be delt with firmly.
If not it sends out the message that you can just go ahead and do whatever you want nothing will be done.
I for one, do not want to live in a lawless country.

You are quite right, two wrongs don't make a right.
Please don't be offended by my next statement, that I think you, like I, had never heard of Edward Colston before last weekend.
Whatever these people did in the past were in the past and quoting an ex terrorist and president of South Africa when asked if he wanted monuments and names of places like the Kruger national park removing or renaming said " leave them there so people can see what has gone on in the past, so we can learn from them"

Like I said earlier Wiz , I genuinely think the black person and their supporters are being manipulated in a way that doesn't benefit them at all.

In fairness, I'd imagine anyone who's remotely in touch with Current Affairs would have been well aware of Edward Colston and the fact that the statue has long since been a bone of contention in Bristol. In all honesty, in that case, I think the people of Bristol have seized the opportunity to rid their city of a statue that nobody really wanted to be there.

It is the far right on the rise. Even being a trade union member is being regarded as dangerous extremism by some people on this forum. Boris Johnson today stoking the flames to distract from his incompetence doesn't help.

BLM being run in America fir the sole purpose of dismantling the Trump administration. Funded by people like Soros and run by white people. Being fed a bit of a fish supper. Not sure who runs the show here.

No axe at all, I just cant be doing with all this rioting and faux outrage from some people who either don't know what they are protesting for or think they do whilst the organisers have quite a different agenda.
You cant speak out against it or your immediately singled out as a racist, fascist, or neo nazi, obviously by the ones who want to be seen as ultra PC to fit in.
The people who are outraged by anything and everything and make sure you know all about it!! Colour, religion, sexuality, anything!!

This country is one of the most diverse in the world. It is one of the most lenient also.
I suggest you go to the middle east to complain about gay rights, possibly take a holiday in the deep south of the US and ask for equality for gay and blacks, see how you get on.

I anticipate all the usual suspects jumping all over this like a bad rash but in my near 60 years on this planet I've worked with people with a different coloured skin, I've had/have neighbours with a different coloured skin and spend leasure time with people with a different coloured skin and you know what?
I've had problems with them and them with me because that's what happens with people you have arguments and disagreements you laugh, you fight, you make up its life.
We don't treat each other as white and black, we treat each other like human beings.
I'm awfully sorry if this goes against the grain but even after what's gone on over the last few days ALL lives matter.

Pretty much nobody is a capitalist.

Pretty much nobody is a communist.

Most people just crack on working cooking, cleaning, watching TV with their families.

In population terms a teenth of a % went out and protested for BLM. Decent people would agree with BLM it is in fact tiny numbers that actually marched.

An even teenier teenth caused trouble.

Certain TV channels have removed programmes that nobody has ever watched for years..

There will be another scandal soon. There always is and normality will be restored.
