James 'long ball' Husband

I admit I am probably Husband's critic over the last few years, all the managers we have had over that time have tried to replace him. I am not going to name them all but he is still here and still in the team.
That has shown me that it's not that easy to upgrade the team with our budget.
I still think we need better in certain positions but at this time I do not think Husband is the no 1 priority.
We have brought in a left wing back from the championship to add quality.
You tell me who is the main threat and who supplies the most crosses into the box from the left ,yes Husband and he is supposed to be playing LCH.
I also thought Husband was one of the few players to come out of the Stevenage game with any credit.
So All the managers who have been here during Husbands time with us have tried to replace him?
I just wonder what proof you have to validate that statement because he has been a regular starter under all the managers who have been here.
He came on loan in 2019 (Grayson) so is now in his fifth year and has made almost 150 appearances which ain’t bad when you consider that all the managers he has played under wanted to get shut.
After Grayson we’ve had the following
David Dunn (temp) 2020
Critch 2020
Appleton 2022
McCarthy 2023
Dobbie (interim) 2023
Critch 2023

All of whom have played him which probably explains your reluctance to name them.
If they didn’t want him they could quite easily have sent him out on loan.

In all honesty he isn't a centre back, he's a full back and a really good one, it's just that idiot Critchley forcing players into false positions to fit his wank formation. I'd keep Hubby and offload manager Grey.

He's definitely a great character and experienced player too, just could do with getting back to some better form.

Sadly he's another with no real pace, like much of our back line.
He’s a very good player at this level in a back 4 but like many in the squad aren’t being played in their correct positions.very frustrating.

He can be and has been, one of my favourite players and characters.

Just hasn't been at his best of late and yes really is a LB who can cover at CB.

He seems to have formed a good understanding with Coulson and as a result the forward play down the left side has in my opinion improved. Previously it always seemed to go sideways and backwards and then across to the right side to attack

It is strange that he has not gone to a back four especially away from home. Maybe tomorrow night he will.

At the start of the season he was playing the best football that he had played for Blackpool but now he seems lethargic, there is no zip to his play, he wastes an unbelievable amount of time on throw ins. Just after Charlton had scored someone was about to take a quick throw-in, Hubby waved his palms downwards, indicating slow it down he then ambled over and just passed it where it was going previously, not a massive thing but it must have wasted nearly a minute, needlessly when we should have been right at them. He definitely needs a rest and maybe play 4 across the back.

I may well be, but that doesn’t stop me having an opinion. If you actually watch him and break down his game, he either passes it backwards, sideways or lumps it up to an opposition player. time for him to move on.
And Grimmy nearly gave the ball away twice in one game and Eccy scored two own goals . Do we get rid of them . Not only that ,you have just claimed that Husband kicks the ball in all directions he possibly can , so if there is another dimension ,he can't kick it anywhere else. Finally he seems to be our only defender wanting to move the ball forward . I am sick of all the back and sideway passing.

The topic is about James Husband, not Grimmy or Eccy, so why would I mention them? My opinion is he isn’t good enough, and I’ll stick to it.

think he's been decent most of the season even though his form did dip. Thought he did fine on saturday and he can still put a better cross into the box than CJ.

He's deffo under instruction to knock it long. I can't remember the game, possibly Northampton where he gave a long pass within the first minute. You knew there and then it wasn't going to be a good night.

From the players point of view it must be soul destroying to be asked to do things you know yourself aren't your best attribute and not the best for the team either.

He has had a bit of a bad run, but he's not let the team down previously this season, although a 5 protects the 3 CB's to an extent.

I think you have totally missed my point,
Hubby HAS survived all the new left backs that have been brought to the club by the various managers.
Critchley HAS brought in James and Garbutt, Appleton brought in Thompson last season. Is that enough?
Why do you think they were brought here?
To keep Husband company?

If we played with a back 4 with Hubby at LB he wouldn't play any differently.

He lumps it forward as the playing out from the back causes problems at our level & above too. It's either clear it with a hopeful long punt or risk losing it in an advanced position for the opposition. When we played back in the Ben Burgess era if he played we lumped it & if he didn't we were able to play some passing football, but that's a team/setup/ability issue. Work it out for yourself. Oh & I like Husband FTR.

He would, he''d get up the pitch more and he would;d be wider, of course he will cover along the back 4, it would strengthen the midfield too
I just don't agree.
He gets up the pitch plenty. I mentioned it specifically a couple of weeks back. The left and right sided CBs play as FBs when the ball is on their side of the pitch.
On Saurday Hubby played 26/73 passes into the final third.
His long ball stats were 9/29
Pennington played 8/44 into the final third.
Long ball stats 2/7
Edit.
Eky played 1 pass into the final third
Accurate long balls 3/7
Total accurate passes 38/45.

If he picks up another yellow tomorrow night he will get a two game rest as it’ll be his 10th yellow

A blessing that his contract is up at the end of the season, time to move on from this one trick pony. Thanks Hubby and goodbye, enjoy league two
Wow. I've always liked Hubby and he's a good player and presence to have around but he does frustrate me. Injury time on Saturday when you want that long ball, with everyone in the box, he turns around and plays it across the half way line!!

I'm not sure that's correct. He has had 9 yellows but 2 of those were against Forest and they are competition specific I believe.

Definitely being told to hoof it up to the big players in Lavery and Dembele.
I'm sure whether or not you're being ironic there, but I think I'd be more inclined to go with the description 'forward players' with regard to the pairing you refer to in your post ...
