That's good news. I was surprised he wasn't the one to do the original given his links to the club.. Always enjoyed his workJust been passed The Armfield and had a good chat with Purdonkey who is ‘operating’ on Jimmy till Wednesday. It’s looking like Jimmy will be making a speedy recovery!

l hope Rob painted your avatar next to the great man!Any pics of the work in progress?
No @Purdonkey was still grafting away ,he looked a bit warm up there .By the time you got there on your bike Mick thought he would have finished
There is, tbh all I've tried to do is go in and improve what was there in the time I had at my disposal. I tried to break up the lines on the torso, they are very harsh which gives the impression of rolls, they need softening further but that would be with spray paint for it to look seamlessIsn’t there still one roll of fat too many? It is a huge improvement on original work
It was hell, combined with the fact I have an strong aversion to heights it fell short of being my most enjoyable day everNo @Purdonkey was still grafting away ,he looked a bit warm up there .
Probably a bit too far back.Could do with a picture from a bit further back to see.
Too farProbably a bit too far back.
Too far
Am I the only one who sees a giraffe on the pavement?Too far
Tbh, there are a tad too many white highlights and it could do with a couple adding to the eyes, but I don’t want to come over as a picky b’stard.View attachment 12330

What are the white dots?
Definate improvements to the hairline, eyes id have to see from a similar distance, but probably better.
Looked a far smoother face before.

Yep definitely some improvements and I'm sure when viewed from a normal viewing distance, not like that close pic , then it'll be even less apparent.I'm in agreement with you. If you look at my previous comments further up, I did state the contrast of paint and spray are apparent, Id now personally like to see the original artist come back and soften the markers so it knits together better. That parts up to the powers that be though, I've simply volunteered my time to come in and try to help improve the likeness a tad. Its not 100% but Its a step closer I think
Not sure what the script is tbhYep definitely some improvements and I'm sure when viewed from a normal viewing distance, not like that close pic , then it'll be even less apparent.
Is there some sort of issue with the original artist not coming back?
Have to agree, unfortunately. That’s no disrespect to Purdonkey’s efforts to improve it - his art is mint. Please lets stop this now. It's awful. It looks nothing like the great man and has become an embarrassment. I have nothing but respect for the people that raised the money for the mural. What is meant to be a heartfelt tribute exposes a great player and ambassador to ridicule. The task at hand proved to be a little beyond the abilities of the artist and so lets move on. I think Jimmy deserves better than a patch up job or the dreaded 'It'll do'. Sometimes things just don't work out - this is one of those times. Let's start again and write off a bad job. I found this the other day - it shows what is possible, a really accurate depiction of Tony Wilson in Manchester. This is the standard we should be aiming for if not better and if we can't manage it then lets call it a day.

Agree, it’s just wrong, as I said earlier, I’ll see it on Saturday and hope I’m wrong, but from the pictures on here, it’s embarrassing. Please lets stop this now. It's awful. This. One hundred per cent this. We can only hope.I left yesterday not happy with what Id managed to achieve. I said form the off its a massive task and it has to be 100% right because of who it is and how much he means to the town and the club. Id love to see a more photographic piece, I mocked up a piece yesterday below, its simple and respectful I think . As stated earlier a great any type of image like that could be enlarged and stretched onto the gable end and it would be as impactful. View attachment 12335
Not your fault at all and thanks for your efforts, I don’t know who is responsible, whether it’s the original artist, or the brief he was given. No disrespect taken at all, Its not my work I just attempted to tweak it slightly
As a matter of interest how much would something like the above cost, more or less than the original artist.I left yesterday not totally happy with what Id managed to achieve. I said from the off its a massive task and it has to be 100% right because of who it is and how much he means to the town, the club and us.
I'd love to see a more photographic piece personally. I mocked up this below yesterday, its simple and respectful I think .

Just a quick question Purdenkey - The Tony Wilson mural that I posted - Is that a stretched photo like the one you suggested for Jimmy or just a very realistic artwork? Can you tell from a photo?I would guess much less than 10k but I might be totally wrong. I think its Bournemouth who have something similar on the inside of their stands, it looks pretty impressive
I'd be willing to contribute.I know we have already contributed and money is tight, but I think the Armfield should try again. Get a proper quote for a proper job and see what we can raise. I would be prepared to make a sizeable start to the pot, if a representative would like to pm me I would tell them how much.

Ah but they didn't know it was meant to be Rigsby did they?I showed a photo of the mural to 4 friends in the pub the other week and none of them recognised it as Sir Jimmy!
Thanks - that's incredibleThe Tony Wilson piece is spray paint.
Regarding the photographic piece, I meant an enlarged photo similar to what some clubs do on large flags, or what they have on the front of the sea life centre on the prom. It removes the risk of errors and questionable styles
The artist is Akse, done loads around Manchester. His Instagram is impressive! LinkThanks - that's incredible
