Johnson and Sunak fined over lock down parties

Boom!

How will Johnson get out of this mess?
Perhaps more importantly, how will Lost defend them?
whats the betting that the legitamacy of fixed penalty notices might become a bit of an issue now in certain types of media outlet, I see that there is already a commitee debate on the subject.

does that mean that bojo, sunak et al will have criminal records,

I look forward to their resignations.

I'm not holding my breath. Lying and misdirecting seem de rigeur, and their bots will be trying to persuade everyone that lying to parliament is not important. Having slaughtered Crispin Blunt for daring to suggest justice.was not served in the conviction of the Perv MP, how can they now argue this is not correct?

I'm sure they will try.

If they challenge the fines and go to court they can end up with a criminal record. Not sure how they could defend it anyway, the evidence is plain.
It will be interesting to see how the Conservative MPs react. Will they find a backbone?

That's Sunak's leadership bid over, although he'll probably launch an inquiry while whinging that he's being harassed.

The sad thing is no one expected any different from the Prime Minister.

If Sunak resigns as chancellor or his other half says to him, enough is enough let's fuck off to California, it may put more pressure on Johnson to do the decent thing.
I personally think however that given Johnson has no moral compass, he'll ride it out.

Are there any examples of anyone in the public sector losing their job for breaches of covid regulations and evidence of Sunak or Johnson calling for their resignation or dismissing them if directly responsible for their employment?

If so....

But Boris has misled Parliament and lied through his back teeth, whilst millions of us have made serious sacrifices especially those that weren’t allowed to see their dying loved ones in hospital or even to attend funerals.

Cummings will be chuckling to himself now and job done!

What on earth are the police upto issuing fines , the Prime Minister has already stated in the House of Commons that no parties took place and no rules were broken . And of course you're not allowed to lie in the chamber .

To the best of his knowledge he didn't know if he was at a party that previously had definitely not happened until it turned out it might have done and naturally, that was checked by

a) Sue Gray
b) the met

Once Sue Gray told him he was at a party he still couldn't say because the met hadn't finished checking.

Hopefully that's clear and we can all move on knowing the Boris is a transparent and open fellow.

Will they tell us how much they have been fined? Because the amount will indicate whether they are being fined for a single party or multiple occasions. It is thought that Bozo is bang to rights for at least two and possibly three offences.

I do hope the Carrie “ABBA Party” in their flat on the evening of Cummings’ resignation is one of the offences. They do say that revenge is a dish best served cold.

It used to be that the people responsible for restrictions would be held accountable if they broke their own restrictions.

Lump your gold plated pensions on Michael Gove as the next PM.
If that's the case, it's going to be the 4th PM since the government last changed colours.

Dave, Tezza, Bojo and Micky since the last Labour government.

That would surely be unprecedented in the modern era.

Someone will find out surely. The top tier of the tory party is a nest of vipers. It will surely be leaked somehow.

Three in the late 30s, Baldwin, Chamberlain and Churchill, but there was a war or something that removed Chamberlain and Churchill was more a coalition in reality.

FOUR from 51-64, Churchill, Eden, Macmillan, Douglas-Holme is the current record.

Top fact checking 👍

Nice timing by the Met, handily announced while parliament is in Easter recess and the PM can't be questioned in the house for a week.

The Independent is reporting that Carrie’s spokesperson has said...
“Carrie Johnson, the UK prime minister’s wife, is to be fined for Covid lockdown breaches (PLURAL ! my emphasis) her spokesperson has said. She will join husband Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak, the British chancellor, in receiving a fixed penalty notice for breaking the law during the pandemic.”

Multiple breaches eh? So that will be the No.11 flat party after Cummings quit, and Bozo’s birthday gathering in the Cabinet Room (the offence Rishi Sunak admitted to) and maybe the May 2020 garden party. All of which Bozo attended.

Hopefully, by that time someone will have leaked much gristly detail for Starmer to chew on. Perhaps the size of the fine? Sunak might try and challenge his fine by saying he arrived slightly early for a Cabinet Room work meeting and was surprised when Carrie turned up with Bozo’s birthday cake. But even Bozo is not thick enough to challenge and risk a criminal record. There must be more than enough photographic evidence for the Met to issue the PM with a fine.

Apparently it's for the surprise "party" held in the cabinet office for his birthday, apparently he was there for less than 10 minutes.

I doubt it would stand up in court, I wonder if the PM will contest it.

What won't stand up in court?
He was there
It was a party
Partys were against the law at the time
He has repeatedly lied about it

All of these things are established facts

Reasonable excuse defence, and it sounds like describing it as "a party" is stretching the facts.

He didn't know in advance, it would not have been reasonable in the circumstances to immediately walk out, and he was acting in his capacity as prime minister.

He broke the law and no magistrate would accept the defence above. The law applies equally to all regardless of your job. He actually broke a law that he himself made.
BTW a group of people with a cake to celebrate someone's birthday sounds exactly like a party.
If he goes to court he risks getting a criminal record. No jury would find him innocent if he could ask to go to crown court and a magistrate will give him short shrift. There is no getting out of this.

Give up

Looks like you're In a minority of one on here! Perhaps the more serious accusation is that he lied to Parliament!
Talk about defending the indefensible!

Is it beyond unreasonable to suggest that a magistrate might say:

"Whilst I could accept that as the Prime Minister you were busy and maybe even caught unawares by the party, the fact you yourself had legislated against parties and the police force you yourself instructed to prevent such gatherings were active in doing so at this time, means it stretches credulity to believe that upon entering an event that bore the hallmarks of a party and played no role in your official duties of that period, you chose to remain at the party for any period of time at all."

Why is my job not writing shit dialogue for TV?

It ain't over yet. The Times reports that Boris has had one penalty notice however decisions have not yet been made about four other events he attended. He could end up with a fistful of tickets

Sequacity alert.
Or you are actually Nadine Dorries.
