Lake District here we come

I can’t drive to the gym to do proper exercise and weights but all these people who never exercised before coronavirus can go where they want for a jolly?
Well I still don’t go to the gym but can’t go to the Dales because I have no car and live alone so can’t go with family.
Some you win..... it’s swings and roundabouts really.

Getting back to the broadcast, I read it as nothing changes for now, other than some pushing of the going out envelope that people were doing already.

The one spark of hope I'm taking is that sport is allowed with members of your household. That's the wife taking up golf then...

I think the broadcast created more confusion

The message was very clear. Everyone needs to be back at work, Except hospitality, retail, schools. You can drive as far as you like for exercise, so lots of rural areas are going to be inundated with folk. But you can't see your parents, siblings and kids. If any of you think that is well thought through, ..................... Not one single mention of the latter in his possible timeline.

I think that’s a reasonable assumption.

I think you are right but he hasn't half used a confusing messege to explain it.

Too many where possibles etc to lead to anything but clarity.

People being people will use it to justify their own behaviour even if it flies in the face of the intention.

Just meet your family members on the prom, beach, stanley park or wherever and maintain social distancing. then you can see as many of them as you want.

That’s what I was thinking to be honest. The message seems to be on social distancing in outdoor areas and you can do what you like. Obviously can’t travel anywhere with those you don’t live with though. Separate travel or you can’t go.

I’m afraid the roundabouts in kiddies playgrounds are still closed so perhaps best if you avoid them and the kiddies swings too - but its a mixed message from the Government so hey to hell with it, have a go on the slides as well, but avoid the horsey thing, a kid near us got his leg chopped off on one!

Can I drive from Leeds to exercise on Blackpool prom and accidentally bump into my Dad and sister who were coincidentally out at the same time? Alternatively can we arrange to meet on Torquay prom? There have to be some parameters.

What a novel idea...People actually using their noggin

I wonder how these dipshits managed to function in life and avoid killing themselves before this virus

As long as you go in seperate cars and maintain social distancing, then yes.. Whats the problem....

Not for families who live miles apart never got I can't see my

Why who you infecting if you drive for an hour or three in your own car with no one else and all this your more likely to cause an accident for driving further is utter bollocks never new they where timed.
Don't understand the folk who said they couldn't see loved ones why not along as you SD I see my parents most days agreed if their was a big travel distance but in a month we've had unbelievable weather to SD outside has been a piece of cake.

So 180 mile round trip to see family has been acceptable all along?

From what he said you wouldn’t be doing anything wrong in theory! That maybe a question the public need to ask tomorrow as he may not have meant it that way, but that’s what it implies. If you can sit with a thousand strangers social distancing its hard to enforce not being able to do that with family 🥴

My point exactly.

I still can’t go whatever as I don’t have a car and can’t use public transport for leisure as it stands so there is still some sense in it.
Social distancing outdoors is now allowed anywhere if you only travel with members of your household and don’t use public transport.
Who you stay 2 metres apart from when you get there is now irrelevant.

We shouldn't be having these conversations. Clarity is key.
I think we will tomorrow, but until told differently we can drive where we like with members of our household as long as we socially distance outdoors.

You can never ever have clarity on anything because it's easy to pick holes in it and ask questions for arguments sake, like it's dead easy to pull up what Starmer said after without saying anything but I like the bloke. 😀

It's not arguments for arguments sake. I haven't seen any family outside of our house for weeks because it's a 90 mile drive.

Cumbria Tourism are appalled, Mountain Rescue are shxtting themselves (tried carrying a stretcher socially distanced?) Total dogs breakfast by someone who does not understand how important detail is. Churchillian, but the dog, not the man
I think Blackpool prom will be equally rammed to be honest. Hard to say you can drive to one area and not another though.
It’s quite clear why he left these changes till after the bank holiday as it does open some doors.
But that’s the point of lifting some restrictions. You can get a beer at a cafe or pub terrace in France now. We’re a good 2 months off that it seems.
Slowly slowly catchy monkey.
Another phrase I didn’t expect to use on avftt 😊

I do take the point, Lala, that's why I think guidance is wrong. And, with the greatest respect, you are far less likely to get in physical trouble on the Prom than on the Fells. I don't really know why he could not just have said folk could exercise as much as they like without driving, ala Wales and Scotland. It is adding in a whole extra set of problems, petrol stations, breakdown crews, accident crews

It will be rammed full of walkers and sunbathers if it's a nice day but the rest of the time it will be dead as a dodo.
No one is going to come to Blackpool on mass unless we can open the doors to the attractions,shops,pubs/food venue's etc.

It’s part of lifting restrictions though I guess. Which will be lifted completely in the weeks to come.

I think people are being encouraged to use their common sense. We all understand the general principles by now surely? The idea is that you are trying to keep the risk of becoming infected or infecting others to a manageable level and protect the vulnerable.

So keep your interactions to a minimum
Where you interact with people outside your home, maintain a safe distance
Go to work as required by your employer and work from home if possible

In theory there's no reason why you couldn't travel 180 miles for exercise, but does that really sound like a common sense thing to do at the moment?

Do we really need a set of detailed instructions though really?

Surely we are capable of being treated like adults, understanding the issue and using a bit of common sense.

It's probably not the best idea in the world to start trecking off far and wide at this stage, but if folk decide to go and walk in the lakes, it really isn'y going to be the end of the world.

I would drive 40 or so miles to the Dales now based on the lifting of restrictions. That would be to enjoy the journey and the scenery for my own well-being but would still socially distance.
But it’s irrelevant as I don’t have a car at the mo 🥴 I think that’s acceptable now and sensible.
Especially as I ve been sitting in an office with 50 others since lockdown began!
Common sense approach for me 👍
