Leeds United v Blackpool Official Matchnight Thread 07.07.22

Positives:
MA will have learnt a few things about he players and it will have confirmed where he needs to strengthen & who to loan out.
The players have got some miles in their legs.
It was good to her hubby's views on things and the players initial reaction to Judas leaving.
No injuries sustained and we kicked a few of the dirty Leeds players.
Negatives:
The cameraman was dog doos, as was hubby's microphone and the annoying Yarkshire sun made our new shirts look a peach colour.

I didn’t see it either sadly I watched the cricket instead. 🙄
I thought we would struggle last season but we did ok in the end unfortunately I’ve got the same thoughts again this season I’am afraid. 🙁
 
Interesting to listen to hubby on the commentary obviously being careful with what he says. But interesting none the less. Trying to be positive, tharme looks ok, apter and Carey both did ok, Connolly did what he always does, as did big Marv.
But . . .
First half we couldn't deal with Leeds press or speed of pass and move. Playing way too deep, and inviting pressure, very little movement and our passing was atrocious. Poor performance in general,

Yes and I also watched the cricket too ,disappointing ,I wonder whether Buttler is a captain.
 
Marvin and Doug Tharme looked very good second half. Calm on the ball, can pick a pass and tackle. Right age too. Good find. Apter looks much better going forward. He's intelligent, and with the right development will be a player for us. Moore did ok against premier league squad players. Again with development and experience will be an asset. All in all a good outing.
 
Would like to see us try a back three, tharme Marv and thorniley, a forward combination of Yates and lavery, keshi and Carey as roving midfielders behind the attackers. One defensive mid and two wide MIDs, a sort of 3-3-2-1-1,
 
Appo can have a good look at the players in these friendlies its not about the result its what players he needs to strengthen the squad
Dont forget these players are new to him I am sure he will get rid of the dead wood if he can ?

A lot of teams have not made any signings its all about the money they have to spend
Wait till the last minute and end up with the crabs nobody wants I understand
I think Blackpool are waiting for money to come in for the sale of Bowler

Was thinking more about the head coach change and the time he has to suss it all out unless Appleton has been secretly stalking us since he called it a day at Lincoln.

Was going to do the paypal thing but put it on my debit card and went through OK. Thankfully just the once (I think) rather than ending up feeling like I've just created a playing budget for Appleton. But then I couldn't find anything else than a picture of CJ wearing a shirt that looks like it'll probably be itchy like the old Pelada. Eventually sussed it but then immediately wished I hadn't! If it involved any more effort than that then I wouldn't have.

York's ground looked alright for them though. Completely passed me by they had a new one.

That’s why I don’t bother with friendly’s, had a great day & night around Kirkby Lonsdale.

We've been slagging off the Nobbers and criticising Critchley for weeks.

About time we concentrated on issues closer to home.
We're in a bit of a pickle and, already, are miles behind our Championship peers.

I went to the gym instead, reading all this now sort of glad I couldn’t get it sorted but still super frustrating…

And also being your quite the expert on Holmes you would know he had actually played tonight out of position and only 30 mins due to playing Tuesday and a game due Saturday you must be a real expert to make that opinion in such little time mate talk about fill these kids with confidence all you do is slate him 🤣 you must know better than all the staff at Bloomfield that signed him pal

And I’m wondering where Holmes got the service tonight coz the ball was always down the other end so what a rediculous statement id stick to sitting on that arse if I was you making yourself feel better calling kids

Virtue.

Non of young lads good looked good enough apart from Apter who could maybe look make the grade in his familiar position.

Thought Tharme looked ok.

The goals were soft, seems to happen a lot when Maxwell is in net..... not maybe his fault but he doesn't inspire confidence.

2nd half was way better in terms of shape and they created nowt until thei chance they got a lucky deflection from.

Apart from that we had the best chance.

Is what it is, a jumbled up team each half, some slack defending in a friendly early on cost us. We move on.

I just said he won’t make the 25, Apter hopefully will, is a shame he is covering an alien position to him which shows how desperately we need a tight back, I would love to see lots of our young players come through but most of them will be loaned out to get more experience and they will go to better clubs than last season. I haven’t slated him at all.

Holmes was playing a position out of his comfort so they were pretty much in same boat second half was a sham as Leeds fielded u23s so should of been a lot better . Don’t really know how you can have opinion on Holmes when he never got the ball same with madine unless you see them week in week our train daily I don’t think you can make that call did you go to the match ?? Or to the development game you seem to have alit of opinion on Holmes so I’m presuming you have seen a lot of the kid not just the 29 mins where he hardly got the ball last night I really dont know how you can make the call of that game I thought apter did ok but again lost balls made mistakes so can’t see that either and if you know so much like you seem to do you will know none of them going on loan

Apter also went to his usual position from 30 mins so would of been comfortable your judging Holmes he was out of position also shows how much you actually k ow fkr such an expert

Like they are the all seeing oracle on football. They were shite last season and dodged a bullet, sold their best player and i hope they get relegated this season.
 
Judging from the interview on tang TV, Appleton seemed very honest at he part where he discusses the Leeds team. Body language and vocal tone when he said Leeds had set out a stronger team than he expected.

He’d clearly thought we were getting a knockabout so he could field his two teams of youngsters mixed in with experience against a similar standard from Leeds and has been caught out a little. He won’t have enjoyed it as a new manager.

I’d wager he will pick a much stronger starting eleven capable of at least 60 mins in the next game and subs thrown on later for the last half hour./twenty mins.

I never actually made any comment about his performance, not one, I just said he wouldn’t make the 25 man squad and he will likely be loaned out to help his development. Are you his mum? Because the only posts you make are about Holmes, nothing else? We all want him to do well like all the academy players coming through, the odd one or two will make it with us the rest will find their level elsewhere, it’s the way of football.
 
I lost the game half way through the second half, at 3-0, and couldn't re-install it. Was watching the game with my grandson who is a Leeds fan and forecast 4-0 before the game started. In my opinion it showed exactly what the difference is between the Premier and the Championship. Leeds had two or three players who had cost around £20m, Spanish Internationals etc. I expect another spanking when we meet Rangers and can hopefully pull something out of the hat when we play Everton. Remember last pre season? winning for a period against L'Pool and Everton but then when the premier guys put their minds to it we were shown up for what we are, a mid table side from the division below.

Give them some time and Appleton time to get them playing his way and I feel with a bit more bite up front, we should be, once again, mid table. Looking at the Premier presently, in my opinion, is far too early.

Well unless my balls are fake no I’m not female pal I just don’t like kids being picked at I also know his grandparents I think you must of seen more than most tho as you seem to have an amazing opinion of him I’m lead to believe he was taken off as he has a game tomorrow for development just don’t see how you can write players off unless you see them play full games week in week out I got told about what you wrote so I commented as I think it’s unfair to judge of 29 minutes infact I think it’s rediculous especially when the ball was at the opposite bloody end most of that half I thought Holmes defended his man well he never got past him much where as when it was changed their man 3 times was all over them he held his own yes he didn’t score but neither did madine I’m also lead to believe Holmes is very quiet and shy and so modest that he needs to come out of his shell so it’s sound when people like you tear into him saying he’ll never make it let’s hope he proves you wrong pal 19 year old kid and your already writing him off love a sofa manager that’s prob never kicked a ball in his life and you can’t of seen much of that game to have such an opinion when the forwards got no service it was all Leeds madine didn’t even touch the ball as it didn’t come to him
 
I'm not worried at all about friendlies, which are there solely to prepare for the season. The pre-season has effectively been shortened by the need for the new Head Coach to get to know his squad, identify his best team and see who needs to be brought in to improve things. That's the process we're now going through, but what is frustrating is that it's blatantly obvious even to the untrained eye that we need a RB, and something should have been done about that already. The lack of cover in that position is a wasted opportunity. There are enough things for the Coach to address, without adding to them unnecessarily.

Completely agree. Not just the starting line up but how hard they went in with some of the tackles. Didn't sound very friendly, and maybe lucky not to pick up some new injuries?
 
What is clearly obvious is that not only are we miles away from full fitness but were also miles away from prem quality. Work to be done.
