Luton v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 23.04.22

I know we're trying to test the team minus Bowler for next season, bit we need something out wide, CJ doesn't look confident with his touches, and Kirk hasn't gotten a hold of the ball yet today

Beesley significantly more mobile and threatening than Madine. In for his physicality, but can’t recall a header he’s won yet. So slow with his body movement for the chance. It’s like marking a lamppost. How is he one of Critch’s first names on the sheet. How can he not see the difference in the team when we are mobile up front. It takes away so much threat and makes our other players look ordinary.

Not a good game this is it.

If I was a fan of a team playing for promotion I'd be hoping for a bit more from us.

Still, we've got another 45 minutes to go to make it interesting.

1 deflected shot in it - distinctly average from both sides - no atmosphere. Seems more like dead rubber match. Main positive for me is Beesley’s movement. 🤞better 2nd half…..please???!

Regroup, get Kenny off because of his yellow card, get Virtue on and then we have to get Bowler and either Jerry or Lavery on.

It was a great win against Birmingham but they were the worst team we have played all season so todays game is a good yard stick for where we need to improve. We have more than matched Luton and 0-0 would be a fairer scoreline, but we have problems out wide and that needs looking at for next season, unless we change to a forward 3 such as Madine, Lavery & Yates with a creative midfielder behind them and full backs, like Gabriel who can get forward and cross the ball. 2 defensive midfielders can fill the gaps.

We need a left back who can get forward too, we don't have anyone unless Garbutt improves his game.

What us it with our throw ins? Seems we need to have a democratic poll before every throw. So slowwww to watch. Many a goal comes throw quick, clever attacking throw ins, players looking for the ball, making runs etc etc

Gotta try Lavery up with Beesley second half, mobile and chasing down loose balls, cut out the long diagonals in this wind, its not helping us in the slightest.
Need to narrow the wide men and bring them inside a bit, small pitch looks massive with the gaps between our players. Always seems to be two or three Luton available for the ball.

Not just that but at time decision making can be too slow and the space then is gone if you have to take a touch, look up, think, then go to pass but see its gone so rethink and go backwards or sideways.

We've matched fourth in the league with glaring weaknesses. I actually think this bodes well. Gabriel to come back in, along with Yates and Lavery as options. If we had an attacking threat from left full back, and a centre mid with a good passing range we'd be winning this imo. All ifs and buts I know, but the point is we're not a million miles away.
