Middlesbrough v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 04.02.23

Ok so I'm starting this thread with something important. I lived in Boro for 4 years, and they had the best ever pizza shop, I still crave them 30 years later. Gigi's on linthorpe road, now I've had mixed feedback that they aren't as good as they used to be, but if anyone is feeling adventurous and wants to order a TopoGigio and report back I'd love the feedback because I might factor it in on my next Europe trip. Also recommend the burgers with Gigi sauce. Thanks in advance 😂

I went to a pizza place in Middlesbrough once. The pizzas were named after boro players at the time. I remember there was a Bernie Slaven pizza and my mate said ‘can I just check there’s no donkey meat on it’. Pretty sure the bloke behind the counter had heard that one a thousand times before. Wonder if it’s the same place?

Anyway 0-0 on Saturday. UTMP.

Had a look at the MFC forums match day thread
They seem to be expecting a straight forward win for Boro on Saturday (not surprising) and that big Mick will have us set up defensively (not surprising). What is surprising thought is that they seem to think some bridge in Middlesbrough(??) is a more impressive structure than Blackpool Tower!😳
Try asking that question to anyone outside of Teesside boys!

It’s not even a proper bridge!

The one time I went there I was told I had to ask the barmaid for a pint and a touch, I’m not doing that I said, are you mad? Turned out it was a lager top, I said I’m not asking for a girls drink either

The transporter bridge is shit. went on it once as it's the only tourist thing to do up there.

Its been closed for 3 years. Best things (not necessarily in the borough of Middlesbrough: Saltburn (mini Lytham); Yarm (posh Teesside with nice High Street); Saltholme (for nature lovers - birds and seals); the modern art gallery (but its an hour max); white water rafting at the Tees Barrage on the Olympic course (awesome - but you need at least 6 or 7 people to make it anywhere near affordable)

This is a very big game for us. If the performance shows character and spirit then it gives hope of survival. Its a fascinating game and one I am really looking forward to.
Let's face it , this would be a very difficult game for any Championship team. Whilst any points gained would be very welcome the BIG games
are the next 2 against Huddersfield and Rotherham. Saturday is more about the performance and hoplng that other results go our way.

Definitely get 1 PT on Saturday
Tough tough game Boro won 8 of last 10 we have won zero in last ten. Not lost or drawn at home for some time. On paper we get beat, so anything is a bonus, a win would be massive shot in the arm for the whole club and send us on a winning run I’m sure.

Spot on.
If we compete I'll be happy, 3 of us going by car, should be a great day, really looking forward to it 🙏

Boro January results:

Boro 2 Watford 0
Sunderland 2 Boro 0
Boro 1 Millwall 0
Boro 1 Brighton 5 (FA Cup)
Birmingham 1 Boro 3

Good but not ominously scary? Akpom and Archer though.

We got a draw at Sunderland with Appleton. ;)

Tickets sorted today. Looking forward to it. Realistically we are likely to lose, but we have enough to cause them problems, and might cause a surprise.
Looking for a good performance and hopefully the other results won’t be too bad and the gap to safety won’t get any worse by Saturday night.

We have decided to go to boro on Saturday and there is FREE parking at France st car park. Lots of places to eat and drink nearby and only 10 minute walk to the ground. I’m parking here for sure
Hope this helps some that are driving
Postcode for France st car park is TS4 2AP
Happy days, cheers for the info. Can't even remember where we parked last season lol

When we played them at home they cut through our midfield easily. Something tells me tomorrow won’t be the same.

They are a strong team and are in form, but I don’t see why we don’t have a chance. Mick will be teaching our players every trick in the book. How to grind out wins, how to battle. Looking forward to it.

You missed Skinningrove off that list 😂😂

Marv on Mick “Obviously I haven’t been training but just being around the place, everyone is positive, everyone is happy to have him around,” sounds good to me, get this group of players buzzing we will fly up the league

Hoping mad Mick can get a tune out of his new charges today. Boro have done surprisingly well under new and first time manager Carrick. Maybe the hardened experiences of McCarthy will upset his applecart this afternoon.

Yep anything out of today is good.

A tough game for sure, but anyone connected with Boro who thinks we're going to be the same as the illness ravaged and physically knackered squad we were at home is going to get a surprise I think.

Hopefully the team show the ‘extra edge’ that Mick has brought and combined with the new players coming up to speed will be enough to upset Boro. Given their current form it will be a big positive to come away with something but not a disaster if we get nowt.

Just listened to Mick's pre match interview and he said they have been training with 5 at the back all week so I think we can safely say that is where we are going to be at for the rest of the season. Also stressed the need to scrap for everything so it's not going to be pretty either.

So 532 or some variation there of. I would think a back 3 of Nelson, Goode & Thorniley and we'll see if CJ is picked as a wing back again. Connolly could play right and Lyons left or Thommo left and Lyons right. Midfield is likely to be Trybull behind Patino, Bowler & Poveda with Yates up top, unless he prefers the physical presence of Gary up top. Bit too slow for me, we need a team that can counter at pace and he will never give us that.

Please don't play CJ at wing back, as we can't afford to have two non tacklers in the team (Josh being the other).
Gaz will start today and deploy his best shithousery. That'll also give us three good high ball winners for set pieces at both end.
Get stuck up em from the off boys - UTMP

Unless he is leading Boro up a garden path
