Name a single player Critchley has developed

I can’t think of one really. You could argue Bowler I suppose but he had already shown promise and been bought for a big fee before he came to us.
Casey had to go on loan to develop, has done well (and been dropped for his troubles) ditto Apter, Tharme and Dale.
Dembele is doing well but was playing for the Celtic development team at 13 so obviously had promise.
Given that he is viewed as some by this coaching Svengali I just can’t think of a player he has improved.

Really?? You’re trotting that one out?

On top of those listed (not to mention Maxi and Gaz both hailed his coaching) I will go Doug Tharme. A kid from what was it 5 or 6 leagues lower? No experience at all.

He has now had a season on loan at L1 team and earned himself a contract in L2 as a professional footballer. Still several leagues higher than where he was. I am sure if you asked him, he will have been delighted with the coaching and learning he has gained here.

Also I’ll add Ellis Simms. He arrived and looked a bit clueless and out of position. Now look at him.

mmm...interesting question. Think a few will say he's improved a good few of our players but is that developing them? You could say it is. But if we are talking about bringing players thru to be regular first team players especially youngsters then i'd say pretty much no.

Improve, develop...

You say potato, I say potato.

Of course he has. He's improved players and developed them. There's no difference.

As for bringing youth into the team, he signed Casey for the development squad and is now a first teamer. I fully expect Apter to do the same next season.

Bringing players into a team pushing for the Championship takes time and he's only been here since the summer.

I also think it’s very few if any.. Bowler already had all the talent..husband is now what he’s always been..don’t make me laugh saying he has improved Grimshaw..personally I think he took Yates and lavery backwards by not playing them after they were in scoring form.. if they scored they were dropped..very odd..if Lyons or Gabriel play well they are dropped also .. Connolly and CJ play every game whatever even if they are poor and Carey doesn’t seem to be kicking on at all… I think Critchley is massively over rated on player development

Off the top of my head Yates, Grimshaw, Husband, Ekpiteta, Lavery, Dougall, Anderson, Hamilton and Turton, are all better players now than they were before Critchley tipped up.

Dembele, Beesley and Casey are all improving.
Yeah, I would maybe give you Beesley actually, has been doing well this season. Dembele has been picked out as a star from an early age and Casey had to go out on loan to develop and currently isn’t starting

OK, soz. Casey isagood example. Apter, I expect him to be sold on.

We’ve had many promising players over the years before Critch was involved who have gone on to other clubs and achieved very little success, which perhaps indicates that they are not as good as everyone makes them out to be. That’s football. How many duffers have we had on loan from Prem Teams who were cited as being the next big thing only to disappoint?

My only gripe is not giving them at least an opportunity to impress. Hopefully Rob Apter will break the mould and when he comes back next season the experience with Tranmere will have him in the mix to be involved in the first team on a regular basis.

I can only think of Andy Gouck in my time watching pool as being a homegrown lad who was a first team regular.

Agree, but Apter isn't limited to one role. No reason he and Dembele can't play in the same team, in my opinion.
At the moment, that seems the obvious long term gap in the squad, hopefully one he can fill.

I'm not sure he'd displace the wing back roles, so the 10 is the obvious place for me.

Who knows? He might come back a bit bigger and stronger and be better in other roles.

I think Yates is the obvious one because he had played in the Championship before coming to us and looked lost. Scored one goal in 47 appearances for Rotherham. Was a far better player after two years of being coached by Critchley.

The two players I'm most intrigued by right now in terms of how they're developed by the club and manager are Apter and Morgan. Apter because he clearly has talent, has been successful everywhere he's been on loan and Critchley has been at the club for most of his late teens, and Morgan because he has shown glimpses that he could be really good if he has the right coaching and development. Two 'acid' tests for Critchley's coaching abilities I think.

Getting players out on loan is all part of their development. Casey has also got better as the season has progressed also.

Agreed re. Dembele but in my eyes he's become more effective game by game.

Yates is another that made money for the club, bought for not very much and sold on for big bucks. Under Critchley.
Before Critchley when was the last time we did that sort of business?
Joseph who we got in return, will I expect, improve a lot.
Morgan unwanted at Charlton is coming on leaps and bounds.
Carey was non league now comfortably plays in L1
Casey looking the part as well
He is a great coach, better than we have had for a long time.

Bowler was a standout player under Critchley who we got for nothing. We sold him on for millions and he has achieved nothing anywhere else.
Before Critchley when was the last time we did anything like that type of business?
very unfair to say he's achieved nothing. Regular starter at Cardiff and the fans there all rate him. So really no different than when he was with us.

Came back on loan last season and looked very ordinary under Appleton and McCarthy.
oh come on, he barely played under Appleton and McCarthy picked him as central midfield player. And you blame Bowler for that! Look, you said he's achieved nothing but he's doing as well for Cardiff as he did for us. And I wouldn't say he did nothing for us, would you? But there again, something tells me you were always much more of a Hamilton fan.
