New What we all watching / recommendations thread?

BABYLON BERLIN. germany around the early thirties. berlin police investigate corruption and the rise of nazism. its four series in but the last series was excellent.. Hopefully there will be another. on sky atlantic.

Went to see Zone of Interest at the cinema.
Really struggle to recommend this film at all I’m afraid.
It's a brilliant film and a hugely important topic but an incredibly tough watch. I've rarely heard a cinema so silent. We went to see it the night before the Wigan game so that made for a jolly weekend 😬

Poor Things (On Disney+) is extremely bizarre but a great watch. Emma Stone well worthy of her Oscar, and Mark Ruffalo played a great supporting role too and was probably unlucky that the supporting role nominations were so strong this year.

Also started watching "The Boys" on Amazon, super hero series (4 Series to date though I'm only on series 2).

the missus absolutely loved it and enjoyed the book which she'd read before, even more.

Fair comments. Not sure why I didn’t take to it.
I’ve been to Auschwitz, which was very harrowing, and read the Primo Levi book ‘If this is a man’, which is phenomenal.
This film felt as if it didn’t really add anything to me. I think we know enough about the casual and selfish indifference of the Nazis already!
Maybe I just didn’t need to see or hear anymore about the Holocaust?
It did feel, however, as if there was maybe a missing dimension between the Martin Amis book, which I haven’t read, and this film, which the director hadn’t managed to get across properly?
My apologies though to anyone thinking of going to see it. Please ignore my comments and go and make your own minds up.

To be honest, the film did not represent the book well at all. However, what Amis tried to convey was how normal life ran parallel with the horrific. Why was the garden so beautiful, the ashes give you a clue. Why did the hems need resewing, and what was hidden in the toothpaste. The book is funny in passages, this was deliberate.....I felt tremendous guilt when I laughed. The book is also meant to be a love story......not represented by the film at all. I appreciated both but wouldnt revisit either

Fair play to her. Films on books can be tricky. There isn’t much time for a director to get the depth of meaning and emotion from a book into a film, and there is a lack of narrative normally in a filmscript compared to a novel.
Equally I’ve come out of some thinking I am glad I read the book or I wouldn’t have known what the hell was going on.
Not to mention Hollywood’s temptation to tamper massively with a story and often even change the ending!

On reflection I think I wasn’t in the right state of mind for this at the time, or maybe I just shouldn’t dwell much more on Auschwitz and the holocaust.

I've watched Zone of Interest twice now (dodgy stick crew) and each time, there's something new and 'disturbing'
It's the banality of what's going on around the family......a bit like having an allotment or chill out zone in hell.
Well deserved the Oscar, but it's a hard watch if you're not expecting it.

Just watched the first 3 parts of The Regime with Kate Winslet.......3 Hours I will never get back again...although Kate is very fit in it.
Manhunt...All about John Wilkes Booth shooting Lincoln and the search for him...I think they are pointing at this being an inside job???....Very Good
Shougun.....It's just dragging on a bit....The Pheasant and earthquake are all a bit 'strange'......and Where The F##k is that accent from?
The One's Who Live (Walking Dead)......I think it's time to let this series end....I'm just getting bored with the same old story.
X-Men 97.....Ok it's a cartoon, but it's a bloody good cartoon

Did anyone watch Love Rat on CH 5 with Sally Lyndsey? I only persevered with it because my sister recommended it but it was awful. The plot would have made a scooby do cartoon look complex , acting awful and completely unbelievable. So bad it became watchable.

No, and I won’t be doing now 😆

yep, watched it all. Two things. Firstly it was very predictable who was involved and secondly, yep, Sally Lyndsey as an actress or even as a host[ Pointless], is as wooden as they come.

Coma - Channel 5. Enjoyed this. Hard to watch at times. The excellent Jason Watkins giving a fine portrayal of High Anxiety.

If you want to watch a really uplifting and inspiring movie, very few about recently, then '12th Fail' on Netflix is the one. It's Indian, subtitled and based on a true story. In this dark and depressing world we are living in, this will surely lift your spirit and encourage all of us to never give up on our dreams and aspirations no matter what obstacles we are faced with.

Agree but Neil morrissey is even worse than her

Started Passenger on ITV1 last night but fell asleep. Seemed like it was decent ( I was just very tired ) anyone watch it ? Opinions ?

Not your normal police procedural. Keeps threatening to descend into a comedy, sci-f horror story.
Jury is out for me, but will probably watch the next episode.

Yes, couldn’t quite work out what angle or genre it was coming from. Will re-watch at some point and see what I think when I’ve seen the whole episode.

Anyone watched Manhunt, the search for John Wilkes Booth ?
Worth watching ?
Up to Episode 3 so far and it's been very good.
Obviously hasn't finished yet, but they seem to be indicating that it was more than just a confederate plot and that Andrew Johnson may have been involved in some capacity.....!!
Booth could have got away (and he still might).....anyone know if they ever caught him?.....but nobody really seemed bothered until they put up a $10,000 reward

And as with most good USA programs....it's full of English actors....

Shogun a bit of a slow burn for me, the female lead is stunning 😍 started watching spooks again from series 1. Love it.
