New What we all watching / recommendations thread?

Starting The Handmaids Tale after putting it off for years due to tales of it being very dark, but also being told it’s extremely good.
One episode in and all a bit slow and strange, but sticking with it as so many people can’t be wrong about its greatness !

Yep, you should stick with it Lala. It gets better with every episode and also with every season (there are 5 seasons).
I mentioned The Handmaids tale in post 11 of this thread. I found it a bit weird (and uncomfortable), which I suppose is the point in a dystopian drama. Mrs Dave loved the series, but like yourself she thought it a bit slow for the first couple of episodes

Another series worth watching is Fargo (season 5) on Amazon
I found some of the Fargo's a bit slow, but S5 is excellent throughout, especially Juno Temple's resilient character

Watched the first 2 episodes of Masters Of The Air last night
It's the same people who made Band Of Brothers (Tom Hanks & Steven Spielberg)

It's going to be a 9/10 telly series.....The first 2 episodes went by in 20 minutes, they are that good and you get so engrossed.

Callum Turner "Bucky" and Austin Butler "Buck"......are brilliant......I have a man crush on Butler, he's just so bloody Cool
And all the cast are the future movie 'stars' of the future.....Shame it's not on something like the BBC because it would be massive.

I thought I'd share the list of TV shows my wife and I are currently working through. Some we've started but most we haven't.

I'm quite fussy about what I watch and so all those listed have been well reviewed and considered great tele so I'm hoping to really enjoy at least most of the shows on there.

The letters denote the platform they're on. S is via Sky (inc recordings, boxset downloads, BBC iPlayer etc), D is Disney+, N is Netflix, A is Apple TV, P is Amazon Prime and D+ is Discovery+.

(Yes I make lists and yes I'm a loser)

Very good that and thank you.

Following on from Saltburn (Barry Keoghan), I decided to watch The Killing of the Sacred Deer; now that is one disturbing film. Big cock Barry, Colin Farrell and Nicole Kidman, really weired.

Just watched the first episode - must admit I struggled.

To compare with BoB is well off the mark - all the cast seem a bit wooden, and what's with the dialogue spoon feeding who's who - and as for the CGI 😬 - expected better from Spielberg.

I'll give ep2 a go - hopefully it'll improve.

Traitors Australia - decent challenges but have mixed reality TV people with ordinary contestants and the set wobbles a bit like Crossroads used to!

Catching Coppers on channel 4 last night, 3 part series about the Rozzers tasked with catching naughty rozzers, heartbreaking first episode.

We've just watched the 50th Anniversary concert of Tubular Bells reinvented on Amazon prime, just out of nostalgia really as it is an iconic album and we weren't expecting much but it was absolutely outstanding, musicianship was superb but the feature, and this is not something I think I have ever said before that they had several dancers on stage, which sounds a bit lame but they were jaw droopingly magnificent as they mixed ballet, modern, circus and gymnastics into an absolute feast for the eyes to go along with the incredible music.

If you're stuck for something to watch for 90 minutes then give it a try.

The new series of Ben Fogle: New Lives in the Wild on Ch5 has been worth a watch.

It’s like a big, warm hug of inspirational tales and interesting people in remote locations.
Makes such a change from the current events around the world.

Watching Passport to Freedom, a Brazilian made drama set in in 1938 Germany. Made in 2021 it's an 8 x 45min series.

I'm no tv/cinema guru, but we're enjoying it.

Just watched “1944: Hitlers Secret Weapon” film/documentary on Netflix, with input from people involved.
Really enjoyed it.

Watched ep2 and found myself shouting at the telly at the end if it.

The woman on a bus = all that's wrong with society.

I've commissioned, lead and been the subject of, numerous investigations over the years in line of work and whilst I'm content with the use of independent reviews, ep 2 where the police shared the footage with, who I assumed were some community advisors, really did show a lack of understanding of the challenges faced and displayed a pre determined bias.

It was interesting seeing the police video of the bus incident rather than the on lookers and i had a level of sympathy for those officers, however 2 episodes in and we're yet to see any officers actually " caught" doing any wrong doing resulting in dismissal or prison time.

It's inevitable unfortunately.
I was brought in for a role following an incident and stayed there for 4yrs.
I dismissed 17staff in that time for corruption.
CPS are a law to themselves sometime. Some cases they took on, others in which I had , IMO, cast iron intelligence , evidence were not taken forward.

Agreed I’m a big fan. Often quite life affirming and usually comes complete with some very astute amateur psychology.

Missus has got me watching One Day on Netflix - harmless enough and we powered through 7 episodes last night.

Was wondering if this had got a mention.

Yep, me and the missus binge watching it too. Think we've done abut ten episodes so far today. Both enjoying it although the theme of it is an oft done thing.

Watched the first 3 episodes of True Detective season 4 and enjoying it, very different, mystical and pretty creepy, great location so can thoroughly recommend this.
Hated S4 Hertford. Have binned it off even though I’m intrigued with the story line. I found all the women to be “strong” characters but unsympathetic and the key male characters to be useless dipshits. Which is obviously intentional. And Alaska is depressing.

Watched a great series on Nutflick called Kingdom. South Korean series that blends historical drama with zombie horror. It follows a crown prince who investigates a mysterious plague that resurrects the dead and uncovers a political conspiracy while battling hordes of zombies to save his people.

Also just started Babylon Berlin on Sky. German series set in late 1920s seen through the eyes of a police inspector and his new civilian female assistant. Crime, politics, and extremism. Great world-building of decadent Berlin. Only two in so far but looks a good un.

Stumbled across Passport to Freedom which is a Brazilian made drama set in pre WWII Germany and set around Jews trying to escape the horrors with a little help.....

Halfway through and we're enjoying it.

Currently watching True Detective season 4. Like how it’s linked to the first series with the cult and symbol.

Up to episode 4 out of 6. It’s pretty dark but good all the same
