O/T Emma Raducanu.

Good on her. The composure when conducting the on court post match interview was amazing, pity at 18 and being in the US she couldn't go out on the lash and celebrate 🤣
And the icing on the cake, making Piers Morgan look a bigger tit than he already is.

Terrific result. Emma hasn't dropped a set in the tournament.
I don't remember when she first came to light, maybe Wimbledon. Where has she been?
I know that I hadn't heard of her before then.

It'd be great if for once somebody could achieve something in this country without the utter gobshite no mark bellend Morgan trying to make it about him.

Covid.

She was playing third tier level events in late 2019 early 2020, but starting to make a bit of a name for herself, lost a final in March 2020 then didn't play again until June this year, so obviously a huge amount of development that went under the radar whilst everything was closed.

I am afraid she's gone and ruined our reputation as gallant losers! I wonder if she's any good at taking penalties?

Dave, she only turned professional and went on tour at a warm up tournament just before Wimbledon. Really a very quick and astonshing rise from nowhere, especially when she effectively took 18 months out during Covid to do her A levels. When she appeared at Wimbledon you could see she had both talent and temperament to be a future champion. I don't think anyone expected it to be so quick!

Great story; born in Canada, Romanian father, Chinese mother; moved to UK when she was 2. This is the UK at its best. Well done Emma, fantastic achievement!

How sad that after one of the greatest victories in sport your first reaction is to bring politics into it.
It´s not politics. It´s reality. Romanian father, Chinese mother, she was born in Canada, moved to the UK when she was 2. This is the best of the UK, welcoming immigrants and giving them a chance to thrive and prosper.

This is a wonderful achievement and should be seen as such whatever happens from now on.

What the young lady can do without is the crushing expectation of a British public that generally, like me, doesn’t follow tennis much and thinks she will win every tournament she plays in.

Since a Williams sister last won a Grand Slam there have been 19 Grand Slams. They have been won by something like 14 different women. Only Naomi Osaka (4) and Ash Barty (2) have won more than one. A number of the winners have been quite young and have struggled to kick on.

All I am saying is I hope this lass is given a chance to develop and be the player she can be, not chewed up and spat out by the wonderful British press and a quite fickle public.
