Old Nightclubs

Bizness and Main Street was a Saturday night tradition for me. Few beers in Fleetwood, cab to Blackpool, few beers in Counting House amongst others, then onto the club. Honourable mention for the Palace were I spent many an under age night!

Man Fridays under what became Brannigans can’t remember what it’s called now. The Mecca. Addisons in another era. No doubt I frequented other places that have slipped my mind for now. It was a long time ago.

I met Mrs H in Addisons nearly 30 years ago so a bit of a soft spot going on but i always seemed to end up in Trader Jacks for the last hour.

Mondays 10pence a pint in Bunters
Tuesdays Half-price drinks in Secrets
Weds Grab a Granny at Springs
Thurs See Tuesday
Friday Adam & Eve Sands Brannigans Waterfront Rumours Secrets Addisons Traders ( perm any 5 from 8)
Saturday See Friday
Sunday Rumours and any venue with midnight charity licence

Did anybody frequent the Cleveleys? Only open till 1 but many happy times in there. I was gutted when they shut it and it's WH Smith's now.
The Illawalla was pretty good and a relacement. Plenty of little rooms and bars off the main dance floor that you could get lost in if you were up to no good 😀

Hadley, we must have crossed paths a few times, these were my haunts too.

Favourite two have to be 007 in the early seventies and then Man Fridays mid 70's into the eighties.
Honourable mention for the Lemon Tree which didn't get to too often as it was a bit far out.

20s remember 70s Man Friday's we'd all congregate in the Grapes then a nominated person would pay to go in Man Friday's then open the fire escape door and let about 20 in buckshee.
Took the bouncers months to suss that scam out.😁

The Palace for my underage/18's.

Lineker for a couple of years then Main Street/the Bizness. Spent many a night in Brannigans too but it shut at 1am which was always annoying

Yep, we certainly did. Great memories.

Me too Fatboy. Mixed memories of that "different class of dive" as you rightly put it.
One weekend (80's) met a girl and had a great weekend; the next week I was breaking up a fight and got blamed by the neanderthal bouncers.
They tried to throw me down the stairs but couldn't because I kept hold of them, so they would have fallen with me - didn't bother returning!!

Been in many of above, but spent my last few years of night-clubbing at Addisons (having one of those gold cards helped)

My favourite would probably be the Galleon though - brilliant place.
I still like the Galleon, although I don’t get in that often ( in normal circumstances) I find that there is no edge to the place .

Start the night at the Hopp Inn... Then The Grapes and on down to sometimes Barrons but mostly Sands... Occasionally ventured to Calypso

Remember my 20th in Paddy McGintys getting chased down the lop sided stairs by a bouncer armed with a chair leg.
We were all well oiled and one of my hoppos fell over a table, easy mistake to make after n Aussie white wines in Yates.

Anyone else go to the Cotton Club?
Get your Blueberries, Gautier Shirt or Anthony&Alison tight t shirt on and dance yourself to almost pass out.
It was always full of skirt 😊

Remember once refused entry to Stix cos i had trainers on. What a throwback.
Went old Galleon a few times, smallest dance floor ever and the street workers used to line the bar.

Every Saturday night in the summer of 1997 in Brannigans.

What was the place at The Hilton hotel called? Tuesday night was nurses night apparently!!
Yep Springs
Tuesday-Nurses night but basically young persons jeans allowed!-DJ Joe Curran
Wed-Grab a granny(not called that but all the town new it as that)Over 21 only-DJ Steve Sale
Thurs-Party night(always dead)-DJ Vince
Fri & Sat-DJ Ian Calvert
Sadly Joe and Vince have passed away.

Forgot about Squires, I worked there on Fridays behind the bar, but we were required to break up fights as well. Some very bloody nights.
Is that the place where The Lemon Tree was? Used to go in there every Friday night at some point. Either early doors before going into town or later on when heading back to St Annes.

It was indeed a lively venue and being young and daft meant I loved every minute.

The Cleveleys was good, but Gallopers was better IMHO

Forgot about Heaven and Hell (smell) What a sweat pit that was.

Also forgot about Zone at the Venue on Central Drive. Think I was the only one there not pilled up🤪
