Old Nightclubs

Every Saturday night in the summer of 1997 in Brannigans.
Who was DJ at Brannies, was it Pete Schofield or something like that?
What a place that was, cracking night

What was the place at The Hilton hotel called? Tuesday night was nurses night apparently!!
Was that Springs at the Hilton? I’m not sure if there ever was loads of nurses or was that folklore that became gospel?

Favourite two have to be 007 in the early seventies and then Man Fridays mid 70's into the eighties.
Honourable mention for the Lemon Tree which didn't get to too often as it was a bit far out.
It was 007 for me before I emigrated in 1972 to Greater Manchester.

Cant believe the lack of mention for Trader Jacks - plenty of mature hottytotty and dancing to Katmandu - The Break
Another thumbs up for Illawalla and special mention to the 007.
The Lemon Tree wasn't shabby either.

Usually did Illusions, Addisons or Maddison Avenue (where I met the wife) on a weekend, then Galleon on a Tuesday (plenty of Nurses in there) or a Thursday.

Anyone remember a very short lived club (late 80's) called New York, New York. It was where Yates is now on Market Street.

As has been said styx nightclub at the old rugby ground/greyhound track was an interesting environment once the pubs closed.....
A very good environment to bag a slack tourist without having to buy them a drink

I will say no more..... 😜😜😜

I do my first night club I managed to get in as a 16yr old you went downstairs to it must be a cellar now with Yates above.

us Garstang country folk would travel far and wide for a night out (apart from the Chequered Flag on a Friday night or after an away game). Trips to Peppermint Place in Blackburn, the Hollywood bar/Squires/Snooty Fox? in the darkside - some great nights and long taxi journeys!!!!

Man Friday's Alternative nights.
Jenks. Saw a couple of notable bands in there.
Squires/ Frenchies and then when it became the Tache.
Pubs were Kings Arms. Grosvenor. Shakespeare, Criterion Premier Bar for cheap doubles but mainly The Blue Room.
Settled down a bit and spent a fair bit of my 20's/30's in the Farmers.

Zone/Love shack when I had my rave head on
Tache and scrooges when in my rock head. I was at 6th form with the niece of scrooges owner (Brenda?) Her neice was called Cara if I remember correctly and I fancied the ass off her

The village.
just jis
down the hatch ( I know it’s not a club, but still)
jellies
Springs ( on a Monday night only)
the Tache ( if all else fails)

Locally, The Louisiana Belle in St Anne's, The lemon tree, 007 , 008 , Trader jacks , Adam and eve, Illawalla . Maybe more, making me feel knackered to remember ! Anyone remember The Mexican Bar at Squires Gate ?

A thread like this makes you feel older because as a name is thrown up you think "wasn't that called....previously". Like Bunters, when I first started going out, 1979 I think it used to be Scamps. Dixieland if inevitably we got knocked back at the Adam & Eve (group of lads). Sands had a membership for a fiver, great value & you strolled past all the holidaymakers & straight in. Man Friday's, Calypso, Scrooges half price Thurs. Mardi.
Remember before 'fun pubs' kicked in the Crown was the best boozer for music/women.
Regency or another shithole on topping st for a bit of something dirty.
Even remember sneaking into the nurses club at the Vic midweek 🤛🕺

Is that the place where The Lemon Tree was? Used to go in there every Friday night at some point. Either early doors before going into town or later on when heading back to St Annes.

It was indeed a lively venue and being young and daft meant I loved every minute.
It was indeed the Lemon Tree

Bizness and Main Street was a Saturday night tradition for me. Few beers in Fleetwood, cab to Blackpool, few beers in Counting House amongst others, then onto the club. Honourable mention for the Palace were I spent many an under age night!

That was my Friday and Saturday night too. Counting House or Washington meet up then onto Main Street (which morphed into the Bizness). Main Street when it opened was an amazing venue. Totally unique.

so many... Addisons, Brannigans, Oz, Zone, Addisons, Dana at Oz, Sequins, Maccys, Heaven and Hell, Rumours, Main Street, Bizness, Time, Promises, Cotton Club, Tache... that Indie club that moved around a bit... sure I have forgotten a few!

I think you might have forgotten Addisons

Main Street had a bar with the barmaids dressed as schoolgirls if I remember correctly. Imagine trying to pull that off these days!

This threads been running a while now, but if not mentioned The Welcome used to be alright especially on a Thursday night as a starter for the weekend!

Had a great night once in the Market Tavern in the Land of Cod-think there were 7 of us in a Ford Capri coming home.
Blackpool owner to be Tim Schools nicked our driver coming home but let us all do a runner before the meatwagon turned up. 😁

The Adam and Eve was THE place to go for classy totty, the place was full of them, sadly the owner John Slack died recently, mind you when he barred me for next to nothing many years ago I would have ended his life much sooner if I had a chance. 🤔

That's if you ever could get in, especially as a group of lads. The locals card never worked there. When we did finally get the honour of being allowed entry you're right about the totty RB although very clicky.

Tim’s a big mate of mine. I’ll remind him of this tale Plumbs!

Adam and eve was by far the best and only caught the final few years. Had some great beach partys by the sandhills. Ventured in most mentioned bar the Lemon tree, thrown out, barred for being drunk but always got back in. Schofields was good too,Christine taking the money,SO,SS,Glenn on the door and some nice barmaids, one I think SO sister, happy days being a teenager and early 20 something.

Dont post often but this is my kind of thread.....starting from the 70,s. Mecca soul nights on a Sunday (nicked scarves were produced as trophies), Worked on the Pleasure Beach in the earl 70,s and to this day IMO the roughest bar/club ever was Diamond Lils on the PB, the bar staff seemed to be all hard Glasgow lads and seconded as bouncers as and when required. Spurs fans took a beating in there one afternoon. Paddy McGintys Goat on a Sunday (free entry) Bit of snooker hustling in the Veevers Arms to get beer money before going in. Remember one Sunday night coming out and having to pass a certain gentleman called Raddy scrapping with all the bouncers. They stopped to let us down the steep stairs then resumed hostilities. Others were all the 007 /8 clubs,Sands, Bunters, Trader Jacks, Revolution. Moving onto the the Gallopers at Cleveleys, famous Northern Soul venue , went into the toilets there one Saturday night 2 lads scrapping, it was Raddy again ( theme developing here). I broke it up as the other lad was a mate and i knew he would get a pasting as lots of the original South Shore Crew were in that night!
Then Lemon tree era ( into casino if you didnt pull). Massive hard guy on the door but was OK if you showed respect. Some lovely ladies in there so it was worth the humility to gain entry! Mexican bar if you got knocked back. Louisianna Belle in st annes at the old Grand Hotel, Barmaid there was one of the first Star birds (bit posher than the Sun,s topless girls). Phoenix club at Bispham was a good pulling venue as well. last but not least the brilliant Illawalla! Thats me done for now UTMP

Tache obviously... but also had some great nights with mates in Waterfront and the 'oldies' (25+) bar upstairs. Can't remember the name but it became the gallery when sanuk opened and they cut a big hole in the floor.

They had a man mountain on the door built like a rhino for the over 25s club...Pepe I think. Always had drinks offer in early. A nicer bloke you couldn’t hope to meet but hard as nails. Died young.

No mention of Secrets owned by Pete Schofield.

We knew the doormen at the Jäger Bier Kellar Opposite Central Pier. They normally only allowed couples and single women. That was by far the easiest place for us to score in Blackpool. Couldn’t fail and the cream of the crop!
I certainly got my Oats under the Pier!
