OLD PICTURES OF BLACKPOOL FC

Against France I believe there cant be many who can say that 👍 ,he was our centre forward when I first started watching The Pool.
As a "reward" for winning all four schools cups in 1961-62, the Baines Grammar teams were taken to Sheffield for the match. I was 14. Poor game, with an experimental forward line of Hellawell, Crowe and Charnley that didn't work. Ray did manage to win the penalty that drew the match.

Can anyone shed light on this picture? It's a still from a Gordon Milne documentary made by Turkish TV. Clearly Stan Mortensen was still there so it was in Gordon's first two seasons at Blackpool - 67/68 or 68/69. But what's the occasion?

That documentary is wonderful by the way (if you can ignore the crass music). You don't need to be able to speak Turkish to follow it.

Presumably a colourised photo, as I don't remember the blue pitch.😉

Interestingly, the amount of wear down the centre of the pitch surprises me. In my mind we always had one of the better pitches.
Our current tactics are more likely to result in a thirty foot trench ten yards either side of the halfway line. :)

The other side of the tracks, parallel to Enfield Rd. Used to walk past it on my way to Claremont School.
yep, good picture. My Nan used to live on Enfield Rd in the 60's so was often down there. Can't remember though if i was tall enough to look over the wall. Houses only being down one side of the road of course.

Mark Taylor..what an underrated finisher he was.

He arrived unheralded and soon established himself as a surprisingly prolific goalscorer before injury cruelly affected his game. Two away games will always stand out for me; a 3-1 win at Middlesborough when he got a brilliant glancing header, and then away at Sealand Road when he lobbed their keeper to seal a 4-1 victory.

There's no footage of those goals, sadly, but in some ways that's what makes them so special.View attachment 15449
Do you know of any record or phjotographs of the purple/blue away versions of these kits? For alll the kits from FH Brown right up to Bass and 1990?

This was taken during an England training session. There weren't enough shirts to go round so JA was given this to wear!

Heavily watered at half time.

Either that or painted blue so passing planes would think we had a large swimming pool.

They used to store the carriages by the side of Enfield Rd aka our playground as they were never locked. You just had to avoid being seen from the railway hut at the end of the road.

The turntable at the back of Ashburton Rd was also good fun getting it to work. I was there one Saturday when a steam train came along which was the same class as the Flying Scotsman and I got to drive it to Devvy Rd before it headed on it's way.

yep, seem to remember that you get into the station area from down an alley on Ashburton Rd.

Envy alert. An A3 Pacific.
