Officially it was £20 per week maximum. Though no doubt some of the top players got more in a brown envelope.
The lad’s laces were a bit too long and his eyes were shut. I heard he signed for the Nobbers the next day.Another nicked off Twitter, taken in 1962 with a lad who won a training day with Sir Jim.

Never.Bus Station
It was opened in 1963.It basically had one stand, which was actually quite impressive but not very big.Much of the rest of the ground was cinder track with some terracing.Just noticed there's no Rigby Road rugby ground. When was that built? Also that the land is being used for parking. Nothing changes.
Why - he was a self centred arse - unlike Sir JimmyI wish that we could honour Alan Ball in someway at the stadium .
I sold programmes there, probably around 1964, and occasionally operated the scoreboard. It was opened in 1963.It basically had one stand, which was actually quite impressive but not very big.Much of the rest of the ground was cinder track with some terracing.
I used to watch the Borough at the old greyhound stadium as we lived on Belvere Avenue at the time.Followed them to Rigby Road ( Princess Street) in the early days and combined it with BFC.Would watch the Boro who would usually kick off early especially in the winter months( no floodlights) and then wander across to BR ( gates opened up after half time for free)where it was usually the Reserves playing ( to avoid clashing). We would wait for the score to be put up on the board where the small stand was in the corner of the South with the first team score when playing away.
Became hooked more on the football than the Rugby so when a choice had to be made it became BFC.Always had a soft spot for the Borough though once they moved out of town to Wigan that was really the end of it.
Then no doubt we may well have bumped into each other there as our small group of young lads would normally be below the scoreboard.I sold programmes there, probably around 1964, and occasionally operated the scoreboard.
What a pathetic response , grow up you moronWhy - he was a self centred arse - unlike Sir Jimmy
Well you build your statue to home - he bankrupted us and got us relegatedWhat a pathetic response , grow up you moron
yes...a definite legend...and about the 90%The first Blackpool Borough game I went to Borough beat Huyton . I used to go occasionally in those days when the possession rules were different and the top sides seemed to keep the ball 90 per cent of the time. Borough were perennial strugglers though they did find a gem of a player in Tommy Bishop who went on to become a RL legend.
My favourite kit ever.
It’s a travesty what happened there, it at the time was a world class venue, was it owned by the council? Many a happy time spent there in my youth, get on the tram from Cleveleys , 25p at derby baths to get in, coke and a mars bar and back homeEspecially because there's nothing there now.
Yes the slope of green grass is impressive.
Got to be 85 ish, briggsy looks like he’s ready to kill someone already! Keith Walwyn was A Blackpool superstar for a couple of years, just too old at the time
Tony Green, my biggest influence, teached me Maths at Millfield and football for a decade, A true legend.Message for Tony Green - Finally found the picture you will be pleased to see!

You can edit out the convicted rapist lurking in the background
Is that Max Miller far right back row and Ben Warriss next to the schoolboy?

wonderful memories, then they built the slides, which were amazing as long as you didn’t mind nails in your back going down them!!!!
I was there that game, started off with two wolves fans in the south paddock kicking off with a stewardSome fisticuffs on the pitch against Wolves in the 80s.
I'd say these days are long gone but we had a little trip down memory lane against Fleetwood (smaller scale of course).

The schoolboy, Jimmy ClitheroeIs that Max Miller far right back row and Ben Warriss next to the schoolboy?
Matthews going for the modest covering the knees look while the impish Morty is showing his off.
No it's not Jimmy Clitheroe. Too tall and different facial features to Jimmy. I reckon it is Matthews son Stanley Junior who i have seen in a photo shoot done in the 50's at Matthews house on St. Annes Rd. It looks like the same kid.The schoolboy, Jimmy Clitheroe
Stevie Morgan one side Mark Taylor t’other? N John Deary n all?Who’s the player to the left of Mike Davies?
Cheers - I'd got Stevie M and John Deary but hair looked too long for Mark Taylor - good player. Another 'got injured and didn't come back quite so good' players though.Stevie Morgan one side Mark Taylor t’other? N John Deary n all?
It’s a great picture. My first season following t’Pool. Recognise Wood, Hesford, Walsh, Hatton, Ronson, Ainscow, perhaps Hockaday. And Hart. Anyone fill in the gaps?

Weren't we confident it would be put away - 4 players on the halfway line not following up.Another nicked off Facebook ,I think its Chelsea.View attachment 462
It’s the 1967-68 kit and we did’nt play Chelsea that season. I go for Birmingham City. Skirton pen for Blackpool in a 1-0 win September 1967.Weren't we confident it would be put away - 4 players on the halfway line not following up.
The only season we wore that kit with 2 bands on the socks was 1968/69 according to 'historical football kits' site but no Chelsea that season and Blues wore Blue/Blue/White according to the same site. I don't have my Roy Calley book at work for me to see if we scored a pen. against them that season. It’s the 1967-68 kit and we didn't play Chelsea that season. I go for Birmingham City. It lost its international status when swimming converted to metres. As I recall it was 50 yards long, not 50 metres and the depths were in feet as well. 16 feet at the diving board end. It’s a travesty what happened there, it at the time was a world class venue, was it owned by the council? Pretty sure its against Middleborough Sept 67.The only season we wore that kit with 2 bands on the socks was 1968/69 according to 'historical football kits' site but no Chelsea that season and Blues wore Blue/Blue/White according to the same site. Is that the game that the ref stopped the game because all the steward's had orange tops on and they had to change? It’s the 1967-68 kit and we did’nt play Chelsea that season. I go for Birmingham City. Skirton pen for Blackpool in a 1-0 win September 1967.
