Not had a thread about TV series / films for a while. Well since lockdown when we were all desperate for things to watch really.

Just started 9 Perfect Strangers on Amazon a few hours ago. Watched the first 3 episodes. Nicole Kidman lead role. Absolutely brilliant IMO. Bit off the wall but made me laugh and also tackles some very serious issues. Recommend it.

Any new recommendations for shows / films appreciated.

I take it you’ve seen Your Honor?

The Flight Attendant was good. Wasn’t expecting much, so it was surprisingly decent.

Currently watching The Equaliser series with Queen Latifah.

The Handmaid's Tale. Strange one this, its slow, brutal, weird but keeps you coming back for more. Superb acting from Offred and Aunt Lydia characters.

Money Heist ....New season this Friday!

‘Hit and Run’ a crime, spy drama on Netflix was good and just started ‘Clickbait’ also on Netflix which looks promising.
Hit and Run was good, I presume there will be a second series. I think the second series of Code 404 lands on Sky One today.

Agree with Money Heist. It's a Spanish series which exceeded even the makers' expectations. I didn't realise the next series starts this week, so thanks for that.

Also on Netflix is The Defeated. It's based in 1946 Berlin, where a new police department is being formed and they're chasing a vigilante group as well as a Nazi killer. It's very good, even better than we expected.

It's been mentioned before, but if you have Amazon Prime, the Bosch series is excellent (6 seasons I think), especially if you like the books by Michael Connelly.

Herts, I'm enjoying The White Lotus; as you say, somewhat dark.
Who do you reckon is in the coffin? Surely too obvious to be the fit newlywed wife?

The Equaliser is total shoite; pandering to the PC brigade in terms of the lead character!

Billions due back soon thankfilly.

Just finished Clarkson's Farm on Amazon. Brilliant, in fact perhaps the best TV I've seen in years. Mrs RF can't stand Clarkson, but she absolutely loved it.

(Just started the second series of Designated Survivor (really good) and last night watched the first episode of Macseasider's suggested Nine Perfect Strangers which looks promising.

We've just found Ted Lasso. Have to say its really good despite being an American run series they get the English football humour.

Also started the "Godfather of Harlem" and the 2nd series of "See" both are worth getting into.

#UTMP

Mindhunter series 3 (serial killer based) and also The Boys s3 (bad superheroes) should be out before too long. Can recommend series 1 & 2 of both if that's your bag. Also Big Little Lies on Netflix (Witherspoon and Kidman).

If you like sport docs - Skid Row Marathon, The Barkley Marathons, Being Evil Knievel, Mr Calzaghe, loads of climbing docs such as Free Solo..... and watched Kevin Allen's WC diary from Italia 90 available on YouTube.

The Handmaid's Tale. Strange one this, its slow, brutal, weird but keeps you coming back for more. Superb acting from Offred and Aunt Lydia characters.

The Handmaid's Tale is one of the best TV series ever made imo.

Another shout for Ted Lasso & Godfather of Harlem.....Just coming to the end of the 2nd series for both
Forest Whitaker is brilliant as Bumpy Johnson

Truth Be Told....Really good......Octavia Spenser & Aaron Paul for Series 1....Series 2 just started...worth a binge watch!!

The Walking Dead (New season) has been very, very good...Only 3 episodes in but back to being a 9/10

Must admit I haven't seen any good movies in some time.....

Respect (Aretha Franklyn Bio was OK)
CODA is a decent tearjerker
Roadrunner....The Anthony Bourdain Bio pic is good when you consider they digitally reproduced him to make up some scenes
PIG...with Nicholas cage is just mental (John Wick with a....pig) but actually a decent film.

Looking forward to:
Impeachment: American Crime Story.....Bill Clinton gets a blowie
The Many Saints Of Newark.....Soprano's prequel...

Nazi Hunters is brilliant Al Pacino is the main actor its a series

also I rewatched Benidorm & Fraiser from start to finish

currently binge watching Becker had completely forgot about the show

Just binged watched the 1st series of the Wire (again) last week.....and just started series 2......Amazing that more or less every character in that series went on to bigger and better acting jobs...Omar, McNultey, Stringer Bell and Avon...faces kept popping up that are from Snowfall, Walking Dead, Billions etc. etc

Brilliant series...

A Netflix movie called “71“was decent.

About troops in Northern Ireland during height of troubles in 1971.
Group of soldiers ambushed and killed in Catholic area and one survivor on the run.
He is hiding alone from the IRA who are hot on his heels.

But, yes, outside of Succession, you've got the likes of:

Breaking Bad
Better Call Saul
Ozark
The Wire
The Sopranos
Game of Thrones
Chernobyl
Band of Brothers
Broadchurch
Dr Foster
Peaky Blinders
West Wing
Stranger Things
Big Little Lies
Detectorists

Most will have seen at least most of the above but if there's any that you've missed, watch and I promise it'll be time well spent.

Clarkson's Farm is unmissable for those with Prime.

Netflix has so many good series; my favourites so far are:

Bodyguard
The Stranger
Designated Survivor
Young Wallander
White Lines
White House Farm

In the middle of the sopranos for the fourth time, I just love anything to do with the Mafia. Plenty out there to watch, sometimes you have to just give something a go even if you don’t fancy it. The Mrs forced me to watch the handmaids tale and I really enjoyed it.

Some catch ups

The Orville. S3 due soon

Cobra Kai. S3 due soon

American Horror Stories - spin off from original.

Evil - S2 just started

Films are a bit short on the ground.

Fear Street - trilogy, was ok.

Suicide Squad - far better than one from a few years back.

Free Guy - good fun.

saw about five episodes of Ozark a good while ago which I enjoyed but had that much stuff to watch and catch up on that I stopped watching it. Went back just last week on to netflix and couldn't find it. Anyone know if it's been taken off?

Still there, 20s. Type it into the search section if you can't find it on the scroll. It's a Netflix original as well so can't see it being removed for a good few years

Watched the whole series, very good, I’m sure it must be still available.

For me the Sopranos is the best series ever made. Think I’ve watched it seven or eight times now. Check out the Talking Sopranos Podcast if you’ve not listened to it. 👍

My friends all concur, it is meant to be excellent.
I pre concluded that it’s too dark for me, which is a shame because the reviews are fantastic.
It's a difficult watch but there is some real positivity and strength to it amidst the violence and the hypocrisy of religious fundamentalist mysoginy.

just finished series..

Mare of Eastown (with Kate Winslet)
and
On becoming a God in Central Florida (with Kirsten Dunst)

both great performances and both very enjoyable :)

Well, I never!! I wasn't expecting that! Great series White Lotus, well worth a watch.

If you’re a documentary man, I’ve been watching a cracking documentary that came out yesterday on Netflix called “Turning Point: 9/11 and the War on Terror”.

Been watching Ted since it first came out. 👍

Sex Education S3 has just been released. As good as ever.

Revisited the walking dead for this last series. Just done episode 6. 😲

Vigil on BBC 1 has been very good so far. Last episode of 6 this weekend.

Don’t know if anyone has mentioned a Bizzaro little series on Netflix called “Happy” starring Christopher Meloni (Law & Order fame) as a run down, alcoholic, drug addicted ex-cop who is visited by a Blue Unicorn - the imaginary friend of the daughter he did not know he had - its cartoonishly violent but very funny with some great characters, in particular Patrick Fischler as “Smoothie”

Series 2 is airing now but not watched it yet as saving it for a darker evenings treat.

Some good recommendations thx 👍 done most but just to add.
The Night Of
Unbelievable
True Detective
Bloodline
Fargo
The ballad of buster Scruggs

Couple of oldies - but been watching Kojak from the start dated of course and acting? but script ok & that's the charm Savalas is great you can see how Hill Street Blues/NYPD Blue took cues.
Persuaders as well 😂 totally cheesy but great fun.
