Pink Ball test thread

Wide open again - we need to restrict them to a small lead - as I am typing Ashwin hits leach over the top for four. Ashwin is quite an explosive batsman and could add a few valuable runs quickly here. We need to get him and wrap this up quickly.

There's something badly wrong with wickets on the sub continent when you see 16 wickets being taken in a day and a bit and the previous Test calamity where the pitch was unplayable for the most part. This is not what Test cricket is about and it needs addressing immediately.

This wicket better than the last one (which was a disgrace) but test match cricket should be a fair contest between bat and ball with something in it for both.
Ball has dominated in the last two matches with the wicket here set to get worse.

Quite unbelievable stuff from Root, Leach and England! A deficit of 33 would normally seem quite small but on this wicket, it probably feels like 100. Cook is quite right, we need to be positive and go at them. If Crawley, Bairstow, Root or Stokes can get going for an hour we could have a decent chance.

Delighted as I am that we`re back in the game if Root`s off spinners can do that what will Ashwin do?

I guess that attacking batting may be the best way to go but of course if they pick the wrong ball they`re history.

Could this be a 2 day Test Match?

Bairstow sweeping first ball kind of sums it up.
Not seen any of it as up to my eyes in work, but sounds ridiculous as a game.

I can only assume they've realised they're going to get out, so may as well get any runs you think are on offer asap. As someone said yesterday, Foakes hanging round for 50 balls for 10 doesn't really make a difference. May as well try your luck as 20 from 20 is going to be more useful by the looks of things. But I agree #Y8, sweeping ball 1 looks pretty daft....

And I'm with those who say, this is not what Test cricket should be about.

As mentioned earlier the pitch should offer a fair balance between bat and ball.Clearly this pitch does not do that and actually those games where the pitch dictates that the bat totally dominates are equally unacceptable.

Why did Sibley waste a review on that?

What an absolute waste of a Test match, 23 wickets down in less than a day and a half and the Test could be done inside TWO days, now I accept we're "rabbits in the headlights" at times and can capitulate quicker than an Italian tank division but these pitches being played on in India are just not acceptable to be used for International cricket.

If Joe Root is taking 5-8, that tells you what you need to know.
