Port Vale v Blackpool Official Matchnight Thread 29.12.23

I think there are supporters who think we should be beating 'teams like this' which is an entitled point of view.
We've been on the receiving end of such comments and it shows arrogance.
So yes, there are people who are entitled like little spoilt children not getting their own way.
I didn't say beating, I said "perform better".

If you think we're incapable of that against the teams I mentioned then I don't know what to tell you.

He was successful, in my opinion because he had 2 experienced coaches. The writing was on the wall for me towards the end of his second season, he had hit a wall and without help, which he hasn't got now he is struggling. He may have the best home form but he has the worst away form so they sort of equal each other out. It looks like the players hate his tactics, the supporters have turned on him and it can go one of 3 ways, it carries on like this, he sorts out the away form or we lose the home form, but how long do you give him? Give him to the end of the season and if it carries on or gets worse the damage will be greater. I don't think Sadler will get rid to save face but for me, he should if we do badly in the next 2 games.
If he was successful because of the experienced coaches, get an experienced coach. Our form tailed off in the second season at the point when neither promotion nor relegation were possible. The players had put a massive shift in.

I've been saying get an experienced coach alongside him all season but either he or Sadler don't want one.

It wasn't a direct statement to you.

People do say it, those who feel we should be beating 'teams like this'!!!

Critchley says we need to find a solution. Why dont you try something different instead of persisting with same tactics and formation simples and yes agreed Einstein said stop trying the same thing over and over when it's not working and suddenly expecting it to work

If we aren’t adopting the mindset of “we should be beating teams like Boston” then I think supporting a team with ambitions to be a solid championship team is probably not for you.

We have lost point to some really shit teams now and it’s not good enough.

Northampton, Cambridge, Burton, Port Vale, absolute garbage. We should be burying them with the squad we have.

I have supported Critchley this season but this is clearly not getting any better and maybe time for a change.
How can you be so disparaging to these teams?
In your eyes they may be shit but they all had organisation, passion and a togetherness, none of which I've seen in a Blackpool team for a long while.

Funny how you mention Ellis as a shite manager, one of only two managers to achieve automatic promotion with Blackpool in my lifetime!!
Ellis was manager for a long time and was successful for a season or two but the football was utter garbage..why do you think crowds dropped to 3000 under him ?

Cracking memory 1st season had to apply for reelection.
2 seasons later gained automatic.
4 subsequent seasons kept us in the 3rd division.

So he improved after his 1st season and had restrictions imposed working with a small budget.

How many managers have gained automatic promotion for Blackpool in your lifetime?

Lots of Blackpool managers have had to work with small budgets over the years.Under Ellis the football was shite route one football.Very few people wanted to watch it hence the 3000 crowds. Its supposed to be entertainment not park football!

Completely agree with that.
At the end of his second season you could see his frustration with the fact that he couldn't motivate the players to keep playing.
Basically, he realised he was a coach and not a manager.
And off he went to be a coach.
Then some lunatics at QPR and then us have tried to persuade him he is a manager.
We should respect his decision and let him get back to what he can do.
Or, buy him some more coloured pens and a new whiteboard, and send him on another coaching course which includes a section on "how to change tactics during a game when it's clearly not working".

Some remarkable comments - generally get rid, shittest manager and even get rid of Sadler and replace with ruthless businessman ??!!

Unless we get panned in the next 2 or 3 games he will be here fir the season.

I'm not sure what sacking him today would achieve and I say that as I'm not sure who the replacement would be - I have read Eustace ,Bowyer ,Dobbie etc - maybe it would give the supporters a lift.

I have supported NC as he is our manager - I have scatched my head at his selections, his apparent difficulty in adapting in game tactics and at times being boring to watch.

Sadler is incomparable to anyone who has run/owned this club and us best custodian with have had in 50+ years. I do wonder what he makes of it all . I have no real criticism of him but do question these 4 year deals . They are costly to get out of .

If we batter Lincoln will that change anything ?I'm not sure .If we lose its going to get tricky .

Glad I swerved the last two away games as we have been dirge and I'm sure my views would be less moderate .Hats off to those who gave their time and money to attending those stinkers .

Why should we be beating 'teams like Burton, what gives Blackpool football club the right to be beating teams like Burton? Peterborough, Oxford Portsmouth, Fleetwood etc etc, our level is where we're at, these are our competitors in our division.
There is no right in sport, just competition.
Even Celtic and Rangers lose games.

that is right of course but do you think what we are watching is acceptable? Do you think we are under performing? Do you think the tactics and formation Critchley employs is the right one? Do you think Critchley seems to have his favourite players who he picks ahead of others? Do you think Critchley is doing a good job and it's just a matter of time before it all comes good?

Edit -ignore if you wish. Just seen the thread you started yesterday. 👍

Each of your questions.
1. Currently, yes. There have been some positive exceptions though and we must not forget that.
2. He is the manager, it's his choice. Would another manager be different? Highly likely considering the lack of consistency.
3. No I think he picks horses for courses but consistently picks Red Rum for the Derby and Shergar for the National. 😉 (Except for Connolly, obviously) 😂
4.Hard one that. I think he lacks the experience and the guile of say Holloway, Thommo or McCall. He's a very good coach that is clear but
he's trying, in my opinion to create perfect scenarios, set plays like in American football with players in this exact spot at that exact moment in time. It's too slow and far too predictable in my opinion.

I agree Appleton not brilliant but I think he may have kept us in the Championship after the January signings

think your answers are one out. Dob't think you answered the first question. There were five. Think your answer no 1 is to question no 2.,

Ok then. We should just glad to be playing Burton and the taking part is what’s important. No expectations. We aren’t looking to be promoted. A Happy to be here club!

Burton have only ever spent two seasons at second tier level in their entire existence. Of course we should be beating teams like that in league one, when they have been on a poor run and are lower in the table than we are.

Sorry, yes I did.
1a, 😉. I think the attacking wide players are shackled because of the system and I think Dembele behind one striker with two wide midfielders whose priority is to attack their fullback or get in round the back (Harrison or McNeil at Everton would be examples of this) when we are in possession, would suit our squad better. We need to move the ball a lot quicker too.
Our set pieces are woefully inept.
I think there is plenty of effort but it's to suit a system that isn't coming off.
Underachieving rather than underperforming I would say.

Where are all the “we’re lucky to have him”brigade tonight…
Out responding to a call asking for assistance with dampening down the embers resulting from the Tower blaze, possibly?

Oh - sorry! Clearly, when you made reference there to 'brigade', I rather jumped to the wrong conclusion ...

Easy because I have seen them and the teams we have played in the Championship and we should be beating them.

That's why we've just brushed these "shit" teams aside, isnt it.🤣🤣
You do understand football?
The other team can win too!!
No team has a devine right to win no matter how "shit" you think the other side are

Too many of our players are soft touches. Opposition managers know that if they select a team full of tall, physical players, they have every chance of beating us. Our midfield is woeful and lacks tacklers and our back three lacks height. So what does the manager do to rectify this, he drops Kenny and Marv! Must do better!
