Portsmouth v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 20.02.21

If it’s 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 let’s not go into meltdown, lots predicting a defeat so don’t blame Critch if he tries to shore up the midfield. Let’s face it we were not world beating playing 442 tother night.
but we won....tell me how many we have won playing other systems.

A point today would be a good result; 3 and we're booking our Wembley hotels! Live in hope. Let's hope that fat guy with his shirt off doesn't have anything to ring his bell about.

Not my choice but I wouldn't be surprised if he goes:

Maxwell
Gabriel Turton Thorniley Husband Garbutt
Stewart Dougall Embleton
Simms
Yates

Pool make three changes from Tuesday night's win against Rochdale.
IN: Garbutt, Ballard and Ward
OUT: Ekpiteta, Thorniley and Virtue
TEAM: Maxwell, Gabriel, Ballard, Husband, Garbutt, Dougall, Stewart, Ward, Kaikai, Simms, Yates
I don't think Critch is a big fan of Thorniley. He never got a mention after Tuesday's game. I'd have preferred him alongside Ballard.
Ward for Virtue is good

Is Madine on the bench?

I like that midfield, not sure what Thorniley needs to do to impress his boss?

Head says 1 -1, heart says 0-2. Sullay to the rescue again

It's a side that can battle, and can function, but it's uninspiring mainly because we're just missing too many key players. It's been that way for quite a few weeks now really.

Tough game today, even with a full strength side it would have been so but with so many missing again can't help but thinking we look a little makeshift at the back, perhaps he's gone for a bit more experience with Husband alongside Ballard, surprised to see Thorniley left out though.
I'd happily take a point now but who knows?

Certainly some big players out with Madine, CJ and Marv missing

Quite pleased with that team. Looks like it’s an attacking line up. Can play 442 or 433 depending on where Ward/Yates slot in. I think Husband playing at centre half is more about pace than anything to do with Thorniley.
We shouod be a bit more effective off of set pieces too

Another "surprised one" that Husband was preferred to Thorniley, but the upside is that it enables us to have Garbutt in at LB.

I'm happy with that team. It's probably the best we can do in the circumstances. 👍 🍊 🍊

Commme Onnnn Yoouuu Poooooooollll!!

Coverage looks decent quality.
I'm wondering if Pompey don't use the ifollow platform?
I might have to watch without the sound on though.

I think it is a decent team and am happy to see Ward back in, he was really starting to look the part.

This will be the first time I've witnessed a game at this ground without, hopefully, the sound of that sodding bell driving me mad. 🤪
It will be difficult to keep a close eye on Clarke-Harris as he's playing over a 100 miles away for Peterborough!
My apologies, I'm glad someone was awake, unlike me. Slaps hands and tells himself to be more careful in the future. 😳

A team with a lot of horse and staying power in it I would say rather than a supercharged side likely to fizzle out toward the end of the game. We will be more workmanlike than anything to match Pompey’s physicality - i’d take 0-0 now because we might struggle if they get their noses in front, unless it’s a very early lead, I’d expect us to be still very strong at the end of the game so might snatch something late! Just to cover all the bases that is 😜

The midfield looks more balanced if he plays ward in the same slot that Matty has been in over the last few weeks. I’m hoping that ward can be a bit more creative for us down the right

Bloody Charlie Daniel playing against us again!
Caused problems from full back in his last game against us

Great passing build up and lovely close footwork from Simms there to get the shot off. Luckier break from the rebound and that was us 1-0 up.
