Richard O'Donnell Officially Signs

Funny that three different managers chose Maxwell before Grimmy , yet someone from a town of car makers knows better then them . I don't know why we bother with people that have been in the game for years ? We can just ask the adult fans who may have taken drugs or be pissed up when going to matches and ask their opinion.
Appleton, MM, who was the third?

Looks like Richard O’Donnell has been the first choice keeper at a number of different clubs in the last few seasons?
I imagine he will think he is coming here to claim the no 1 spot as well.

I would say in my opinion ,but it was 3 different managers opinions too. I would suggest that they know more about it then someone that has managed to type 2 letters
He was Critch’s number 1. As soon as he got in the team when Maxy got injured he kept his place even when Maxy came back. The rumours are Appleton dropped him because he told him to F off, nothing to do with actual ability. And I mean, if we are saying we respect McCarthy’s judge of ability after his horror show of a stint in charge then wow.

Grimshaw is a better keeper. He’s a much better shot stopper. Grimshaw and Maxwell have the same weakness, commanding the area. The difference is Grimshaw is 23 with bags of time to improve. 23 is no age for a keeper.

If the club didn’t think he would be good enough when needed they wouldn’t sign him
Aye I know, I am being unfair on the lad, but like Junior says above, it seems a lot of hassle for a position that didn't need strengthening.

Left or released?
Not retained!

I do see your point, particularly as the upgrades in other positions aren't exactly rolling in. But if Maxwell was a relatively big earner I can see the case for letting him go and bringing in a replacement you think can bring just as much on a lower wage.

It's probably worth remembering Maxwell got injured a lot for a 'keeper as well.

Dick, Rick, Rods, Rodders is quality - top bloke no airs and graces. A good trainer, methodical but a quick thinker. Downside is he has so much mental energy that he can get a bit stressed and tense. His cousin is a well known Irish troubadour.

I hope we can move on and say that Maxwell was a great servant for the club, he was brilliant in the promotion season and had some great moments in the Championship. He definitely seemed to lose a bit of confidence and it was probably good for both parties.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see him further up the pyramid as a back up earning decent money, fair play to him.

Grimmy is an our number 1 for the start of the season and we’ll have a couple of decent keepers as back up. We can always bring in a loan if Grimmy gets injured.

What are the rules on emergency loan keepers? I thought all your professional keepers had to be unavailable, and isn’t it short term only?

If he had his medical yesterday .. did he fail!!
There’s no such thing as a failed medical, contrary to media

A medical is an evaluation on which a judgment is made.

Also a medical isn’t a sign a deal is done … Bolton (supposedly) had two players in for medicals at the weekend who were both back in pre-season with their clubs yesterday.

I wonder if someone else has come (back) into the picture?

Failed to get a positive evaluation. Same thing really.

Just after 15 minutes for the pass/fail discussion.

Good to have experienced cover for Grimmy, I just hope he's here to push for a starting place. Competition can only be a good thing.

Looks like 05:81 this morning to me.

Did there? I heard Grimmy was upset at being dropped which is fine. Not sure there was any GK unrest other than fans disagreeing with the managers selecting Maxwell.
There were rumours about Maxwell telling MM that he was the leader of the dressing room and if he didn't start there would be problems.

Like I say it was a rumour, but for rumours to be starting like that then someone must have been upset.

My cousin, who's a Rochdale season ticket holder, view of him "He'll be a good second for you. Does the basics well and is a good shot stopper but isnt one of thoes keepers that can play it out very well. He was a solid as he could be for us with our shambolic defence last season. Won player of the season coz of that. All round good guy that seems to get along well with everyone. Gave Katie a pair of gloves at the end of the season so I've got alot of time for him."
