RIP Matthew Guthrie (known as Shaggy) Aged 25

Tragic for sure - when are people going to realise that one punch is potentially all it takes - I know of three times this has happened in the last few months , on the Fylde coast alone ! RIP

I just don’t know what has got into people, why do this, why?
What an absolute waste of a young life. RIP and thoughts are with the family and friends.

Not that it matters but wasn’t aware he was a Blackpool fan. Very sad and as someone who lives in Lytham, it’s difficult to take. Thoughts are with his family and hope the person responsible is brought to justice. RIP

I think it’s because of the nature of the crime is that it is unlikely to be repeated and he probably isn‘t a flight risk. And we have to remember, innocent until proven guilty.
He shouldn’t be able to be on the streets. After all somebody has sadly lost their life through the individual.

Devastated for family and friends - not one life ruined but those of the victims as well.
Sending love ❤️

This is desperately sad. Everything to look forward to, taken away in a instant.

My sincere condolences to this young man’s family.

I really think that, if you are arresting someone for a serious offence like manslaughter, bail should not be given. People have to realise that as instantly as a life can be taken with a punch, so can your freedom.

My son was at school with Matthew and was a pal of his. Everyone was. He was an extremely popular and likeable lad. I met him a couple of times when he was very young and he played in goal for the local football team, and he was a lovely, happy, polite young man who was a credit to his parents.

Unfortunately his father passed away whilst he was still young, so I cannot even begin to imagine how his mum feels now.

I wish her our sincerest condolences - from his school pal Ben, and family. x

Saw his picture yesterday in the news and thought I recognised his face from the match.

Absolutely tragic and heartbreaking stuff. RIP 🧡

Happened to a mate of mine several years ago outside Devi pub. Had his issues, dont know whether he said something but someone hit him hard and he banged his head on the floor. Guy most probs out after a couple of years on manslaughter verdict.

As the victim of a similar crime about 20 months ago I’ll hold my tongue. The police and local authorities are culpable though in the frequency of these incidents occurring, especially on the Fylde coast. The CCTV is atrocious and it’s known about yet nothing has been done to improve matters. RIP Shaggy - I hope the bastards who did this get caught and go down for a very long time - sadly I don’t expect justice will be served 😥

I think it’s obvious I’m not defending anyone in my post. I’m simply suggesting why he has been given bail, as another poster asked the question.

What the police will never tell you is that many times the cctv cameras are not even on as they don’t have staff to monitor the screens. What they usually do is select cameras in areas of concern and switch those on. People are not taught the tools to contribute to the greater good in life nor motivated after school to make good choices . It’s why poverty and welfare have become generational.

Hi Lala

I know you weren’t defending anyone so sorry if my reply came across that you were insinuating that. One of my favourite posters - I certainly don’t have any beef with you x

Hey, no it’s fine, I didn’t want you to think I was agreeing with the process ! Thanks for explaining x

SO heart-breaking to hear such sad news.

My sincere condolences goes to all the family and friends of this young man.

RIP Fellow Seasider

Awful news. RIP Shaggy. Hope we/the club can do something to pay our condolences to his poor mum and the rest of his family. 1687422846537.png

Awful news.
R.I.P .
What is the world coming to when morons go round and attack a harmless Lad?
My heart goes out to you and your family.

It’s an awful tragedy for everyone concerned… and a tragic loss of life in awful circumstances, my heart goes out to the family and friends of this young man 🧡

That said, there’s a lot of assumptions being made about the nature and character of the other party on this thread, but this incident is very much out of character, as I understand it, from his friends.

As ever in these circumstances, it’s often best to await the due process, before condemning someone.
