Anyone seen or heard about this happening and why? Or am I missing something obvious?

A quick bit of #readingfc transfer news - understand that goalkeeper Sam Walker is joining League One Blackpool on a week-long emergency loan. He is set to make his debut at home to Rochdale on Boxing Day (Saturday)

I hope it's not Covid related. Chances are that if it is, he'll have been in close contact with the rest of his team mates. But one week sounds odd. The only reason I can come up with as to why only a week would be that if some of the rest of the squad have it, but don't know yet, [awaiting results] then it's likely games will be postponed so we'll have no need for him. We'll see what's said anyway.

It looks like its probably Covid if its a one week loan and I am sure he will come straight in to the team as Sims and Fotofit havent looked quite ready yet.

Scrafton says that Critchleys press conference will be tomorrow morning, we will find out more then.
 
Sims is injured. Could it be Fojitek who's succumbed to the Virus rather than Maxwell and this lad from Reading is cover ? We don't know, we'll find out tomorrow.
 
Because it’s out of the transfer window you can only have a week long loan and they have to start if they are available
 
If one of the goalies is suffering with Covid then the others would have to isolate due to close contact, seem to remember St Mirren had this issue and had to get an emergency loan from Hibs to fulfill their fixture a few weeks ago.

That would mean we wouldn't have a Goalie on the bench is that allowed or would one of the youth players to step up?

You’re allowed to not have a GK on the bench - in fact I’m pretty sure you don’t actually need to name a bench ! (Plenty of times under KOKO we struggled to put a squad of 16 together :/ ) but I’m fairly sure a youth team player could step up and be on the bench just in case. The Youth player being available doesn’t stop an emergency loan thankfully.
 
Over on Vital, Abel says Maxwell will miss at least the next 2 games and confirms Sims is also out.

If it is Covid related hopefully it's an isolated case, like Woodburn's was.
 
Surprised if it is Covid then the whole squad aren't affected by it? Surely more likely to be an injury.
 
Have we got another situation with Fojitek like we did with Edge who was mysteriously unavailable so we had to bring Joe Hart in!!
