….. but for the manager tinkering again. FFS sort your best team and stick with it cos that league is there for the taking
How do you set up at home to an opposition that have only won once all season, are bottom of the league and are there to be hammered by your best 11??? We should be stuffing shit teams like that without giving them a second thoughtCritch doesn’t believe in a best team . He believes in squad rotation and setting up according to the opposition. I doubt very much he will change that philosophy any time soon .
They were awful mate, we made them look good in the second halfGive some credit to Cheltenham!
New Manager has done wonders with that team
We did. On another night we would have scored another 3 or 4, plus a couple of penalty shouts. How do you set up at home to an opposition that have only won once all season, are bottom of the league and are there to be hammered by your best 11??? But we didn’t and then sat back to make a nervy ending???We did. On another night we would have scored another 3 or 4, plus a couple of penalty shouts.
Take it you’re not sat in the South? It was definitely a foul by Rhodes on their keeper…… even though he did make a meal of itThere first goal was offside, and Jordan’s goal should have stood. It was never a foul on the keeper.
We got three points, and are in the top 6. The arrogance of some of our fans is ridiculous.
Critch can’t do right in some eyes.
The manager was forced to tinker as husband and norburn were out,wot else did u want him to do….. but for the manager tinkering again. FFS sort your best team and stick with it cos that league is there for the taking
Me. That second half performance was awful3 points so who actually cares?
Not change the team that was winning comfortablyThe manager was forced to tinker as husband and norburn were out,wot else did u want him to do
I take it you weren’t sat in the North, because that was definitely offside. We won ffs, chill outTake it you’re not sat in the South? It was definitely a foul by Rhodes on their keeper…… even though he did make a meal of it
its a squad game and the players that came on should of been comfortable to step in,ur not gonna play the same 11 for 90 mins 30 odd games a seasonNot change the team that was winning comfortably
Aston Villa won division 1 and the European Cup using 14 players in the 81/82 season.its a squad game and the players that came on should of been comfortable to step in,ur not gonna play the same 11 for 90 mins 30 odd games a season
Stick to meaningless cup and reserve games for squad rotationits a squad game and the players that came on should of been comfortable to step in,ur not gonna play the same 11 for 90 mins 30 odd games a season
But it doesn't matter.Me. That second half performance was awful
Of course it does. Other managers and scouts look at performances as wellBut it doesn't matter.
So what?Of course it does. Other managers and scouts look at performances as well
Only 40 years ago then?Aston Villa won division 1 and the European Cup using 14 players in the 81/82 season.
Just saying it can be done.Only 40 years ago then?
What a strange answerSo what?
The Cringey Fist PumpsAgree with the OP. If we play like that against a half decent team, we get beat.
Don't even get me started on the cringey fist pumps at the end.
Clearly you ain't ever played football mary. Of course it's natural that players become slightly cautious when defending a lead and that can mean players they sit deeper than they really should. But that's what the manager is there on the sidelines for. To tell his midfield to push up further which then allows the defence to ove up further too. In the second half our defence was pretty much sat on the edge of our own bos for the whole 45 minutes with the midfield barely 10 yards in front of them. We allowed them to totally dictate the whole of the second half by not competing with them in midfield. The gap between our forwards and midfield was way too big. That is Critchleys responsibility. Of course Critchley won't have been happy with that second half performance, that's stating the obvious. It's his failure to address it during the second half rhat was concerning.I’m not sure he (Critchley) dropped anyone back, the players just ended up retreating. They changed shape for the second half and they could pretty much throw caution to the wind.
A bit of complacency set in towards the end of the first half too, we probably weren’t as professional as we could have been with our goal scoring opportunities etc.. and got a bit sloppy.
They get a poor goal (not sure if offside) and they come out in the second half and go for it.
Critchley won’t have been happy with that second half performance at all, nor the fact that we failed to kill them off in the first half.
Anyway two very good results…. Follow that up on Saturday and things are starting to look extremely positive.
Holloway's first target, which he spoke of at his opening presser, was to turn -11 into +11 goal difference. Aim for that and you're part way there.Don't think you can underestimate the value of GD. The teams who finish highest in the table 99% of the time have the best GD. If you see a chance to improve that, then you should go for it.

Did you praise Critchley how he changed things round at Oxford Saturday or is it just a one way street?Totally agree
The fickle fans who are happy with a win and pissed off with a loss have little to add to this debate apart from “we won!”
A manager’s job in any business is to affect the actions and emotions of people around them. If Critch can’t affect how the team drop despite months on a training ground and standing on the side of the pitch then I have to question his effectiveness!
This is his attic and it was the same before he left first time. As 20’s described everyone drops too deep and leaves massive gaps between our front players and midfield which opponents usually manage to exploit
What more can he do?Totally agree

That's the problem with this stay at home IPTV crowd they only follow the ball. What more can he do?
He was literally screaming at the lads to push forward… From a technical perspective, he made the right changes to address the overload in the middle of the park…
On the night, it took some dodgy decisions by the officials, a bit of complacency on the part of our players and a decent slice of luck to prevent it being an absolute rout.
They could throw caution to the wind second half… We need to learn to deal with that problem better and to that extent, the Manager needs to address the issue with them in training, but on the night that was on the players imo… simple as that !
