Should have won that by 5 or 6……

Critch doesn’t believe in a best team . He believes in squad rotation and setting up according to the opposition. I doubt very much he will change that philosophy any time soon .
How do you set up at home to an opposition that have only won once all season, are bottom of the league and are there to be hammered by your best 11??? We should be stuffing shit teams like that without giving them a second thought 🙄👊👊👊

We did. On another night we would have scored another 3 or 4, plus a couple of penalty shouts.

There first goal was offside, and Jordan’s goal should have stood. It was never a foul on the keeper.
We got three points, and are in the top 6. The arrogance of some of our fans is ridiculous.
Critch can’t do right in some eyes.
Take it you’re not sat in the South? It was definitely a foul by Rhodes on their keeper…… even though he did make a meal of it

When we were cruising I said we should rest Rhodes and CJ but bring on Kouassi and maybe Dale . It would have kept us attacking while saving big players but bitchley has to go defensive for no reason whatsoever, I really don't trust him anymore.

When Cheltbtwent 4-2-4 we could not handle them at all. They were a big side too. We were all over the place trying to cope with the aerial bombardment.

This type of opponent has always been Critchley's nemesis.

You have to play your squad. Leads to a happier dressing room. Critchley is still learning about his players as we are. The sad thing is some are not good enough and January will be a chance to rectify some of the issues.

The ref tonight, especially second half was embarrassing, their defenders were constantly holding Kouassi, they all seem to want his shirt so badly at times.

The players out there were plenty good enough and yes could easily have had more goals.

One of theirs shouldn't have stood.

But still the way we sat back and weren't pressing them and almost stopped playing at times was incredibly poor. We were 3-1 up against a struggling side who had scored 2 goals prior to this game.

We should have been pressing them high up and forcing mistakes.

We could and should have made it a lot easier than that and only have ourselves to blame.

Got the win but very unconvincing 2nd half after a decent 1st.

Agree with everything the O/P says on this thread. It's a win yes but that second half doesn't fill me with confidence and it does matter.

Critch was out coached in the second half.

He dropped both our wingback back to full backs, our midfield three had to then cover the full width of the pitch and were overrun in the centre. It wasn’t individual issues, it was poor tactics.

We missed some great chances. We could have gone in at halftime 5 - 1 up and even added a couple at the start of the 2nd half.

Cheltenham then dominated for the last 35 minutes. Such a strange and drastic turn in the flow of the game, we were so dominant and just let them back in - can't remember the last Blackpool game I saw that was like that, to that extent.

I'm still convinced on there 2nd goal the ball had gone out of play. Certainly looked that way from behind it.

Don't think you can underestimate the value of GD. The teams who finish highest in the table 99% of the time have the best GD. If you see a chance to improve that, then you should go for it.

Agree with the OP. If we play like that against a half decent team, we get beat.

Don't even get me started on the cringey fist pumps at the end.

I’m not sure he (Critchley) dropped anyone back, the players just ended up retreating. They changed shape for the second half and they could pretty much throw caution to the wind.

A bit of complacency set in towards the end of the first half too, we probably weren’t as professional as we could have been with our goal scoring opportunities etc.. and got a bit sloppy.

They get a poor goal (not sure if offside) and they come out in the second half and go for it.

Critchley won’t have been happy with that second half performance at all, nor the fact that we failed to kill them off in the first half.

Anyway two very good results…. Follow that up on Saturday and things are starting to look extremely positive.

Clearly you ain't ever played football mary. Of course it's natural that players become slightly cautious when defending a lead and that can mean players they sit deeper than they really should. But that's what the manager is there on the sidelines for. To tell his midfield to push up further which then allows the defence to ove up further too. In the second half our defence was pretty much sat on the edge of our own bos for the whole 45 minutes with the midfield barely 10 yards in front of them. We allowed them to totally dictate the whole of the second half by not competing with them in midfield. The gap between our forwards and midfield was way too big. That is Critchleys responsibility. Of course Critchley won't have been happy with that second half performance, that's stating the obvious. It's his failure to address it during the second half rhat was concerning.

Holloway's first target, which he spoke of at his opening presser, was to turn -11 into +11 goal difference. Aim for that and you're part way there.

After 40 minutes we started messing about with throw ins and looking to get to half time. Every time we attacked at pace we looked like we could create a chance. More of the same was needed, not inviting Cheltenham to look like Brazil.

One of the only advantages of, at times, a terrible performance 2nd half and dire game management by some last night is it still keeps us under the radar a bit, not fancied by the bookies. Teams might see it and not be as afraid of us.

In spells though we know we can be very dangerous. But we do need to start putting it all together in complete performances.

No team in the league has smashed Cheltenham this season most they've conceded in any one game is 3 so putting 4 or 5 past past them is just wishful thinking.

Totally agree
The fickle fans who are happy with a win and pissed off with a loss have little to add to this debate apart from “we won!”

A manager’s job in any business is to affect the actions and emotions of people around them. If Critch can’t affect how the team drop despite months on a training ground and standing on the side of the pitch then I have to question his effectiveness!

This is his attic and it was the same before he left first time. As 20’s described everyone drops too deep and leaves massive gaps between our front players and midfield which opponents usually manage to exploit

Did you praise Critchley how he changed things round at Oxford Saturday or is it just a one way street?
Doubt it.

What more can he do?

He was literally screaming at the lads to push forward… From a technical perspective, he made the right changes to address the overload in the middle of the park…

On the night, it took some dodgy decisions by the officials, a bit of complacency on the part of our players and a decent slice of luck to prevent it being an absolute rout.

They could throw caution to the wind second half… We need to learn to deal with that problem better and to that extent, the Manager needs to address the issue with them in training, but on the night that was on the players imo… simple as that !

That's the problem with this stay at home IPTV crowd they only follow the ball.
Critchley was going ballistic the second half asking them to push up.

It was a bit disappointing to be hanging on at the end because it seemed avoidable but we hung on and it's three points. I won't lose any sleep over the second half performance.

I went to the last two games and enjoyed them, I couldn't say that for the last few games I attended so overall I'm happy with the progress.
