Summer transfer rumours deux, the 'Appy edition.

Nixon has lost it in my eyes now, continually wrong and just appears to be guessing at things to get a bit of a headline for people wanting to give him.£1.99 a month.

I imagine he's got decent contacts among the agents, but his attempt to monetize his Twitter account is leading him into areas where he isn't ITK such as Rosenior, and the Derby takeover, and when you look closely a lot of what he writes is "Mystic Meg" type stuff that can never quite be proven right or wrong.

I don't understand, the only rumours we have coming out being in the defensive areas, the only reason I could think would be if the club knew someone like Marvin or Gabriel were going. We've not heard anything about Marv and I don't buy all this interest in Gabriel after the year he's just had.

Agreed, we might have inquired about Cresswell, but I can't see us going after him seriously because of how many CBs we already have.

Sounds like he's making stuff up for clicks.

A name mentioned to me a while ago was Tyler Morton from Liverpool it was being discussed before critch left so not sure if that affected anything im certainly not itk.

Brannagan was one that Critchbitch wanted?
How do these things work when a manager wanting a player leaves and a new manager arrives?
Is it the board who pursue the signing and the new manager just goes with it?

I think the club have a recruitment team in place whereby a managers choice of signings will be vetted to ensure it reflects the identity of the club, so if a new manager comes in (who should have a similar profile to the previous manager), they wont need to rebuild an entire squad to fit their strategy.

I suspect the way it works is the manager gives feedback on the squad, and together they identify what the squad needs, it's then up to the recruitment team to identify targets and get the deal over the line, the manager presumably gets a final yes/no over the signings, but he probably isn't going to be presenting the club with a list of targets.

An exception in this case might be loan transfers, Appleton has worked in the past with several academy players that would be a good fit for our current needs, the team might be persuaded to change their strategy for this window in light of that.

Pretty much that, Manager says we need a combative midfielder who can create and score a few goals, recruitment team go out and find who is out there within budget, go back to manager with a few choices.

Think we could do with a veteran striker who knows where the goal is, would likely need to be 33-35 for us to be able to afford him, mainly as insurance in case both Yates and Lavery fail to score with any regularity and as a last 20 minute sub.

I suggested Danny Mandroiu of Shamrock Rovers some time back, goal scoring midfielder.

His contract somehow lets him go cheaply and ironically he appears to be going to Lincoln!

They would appear to have been looking at him for some time, nothing finalised yet though.

You never know
Grimmy took a significant pay cut after leaving Man City but it puts him in a position to be noticed.
Simms has not yet played at championship level, so to me a realistic target

Grimmy was released by City at the end of his contract, Simms is under contract at Everton until 2024.

Wouldn't mind Simms, but don't think we need another striker especially since Appleton only plays with one in a 4-3-3 and Lavery, Yates, and Beesley are all good enough.

Think our first signing will be a winger or creative mid.

Ever unreliable Alan Nixon when asked the question,
"who are we close to?"
said;
"Have a hunch on two … but not cracked them yet … Prem loans ".

I think he gets most of his Blackpool stuff off this messageboard. 😁

I guess what that means is that he hasn't heard anything from any of his usual sources, so he's concluded that there's no permanent transfers being negotiated, and the club is looking to the loan market instead.

Does this mean that the club are no longer pursuing Brannagan?

I doubt we have even bothered this summer, he isn't coming here.

Pretty clear we're not spending money this summer.

Agreed CamBran was Quitchley’s target can’t see it happening now.

But we have the compo money for quitch, I still think Bowler will leave for a couple of mill and that’ll be on top of around 1.5/2 mill budget allocated for this summer.
Plus they’ll be one or two other players leaving for fees I’d imagine.
I think we might end up spending a decent amount tbh, we’re only what 17 days into a new managerial tenure. These things take a bit of time to get going.

I wonder if Callum Styles at Barnsley would be a goer. We can’t rely on a Stewart, Dougall may be off with Oz at different points of the year, who knows what Virtue will bring. He played well in a terrible Barnsley team last year.

I don't see how he's an upgrade on what the club already have.
