Summer Transfer Rumours trois - Will Appy (re)sign anyone?

We had this concern a while ago with a big clear out, how could we survive without The Fonz, Feeney, Spearing and Gnando, sorry but how did it work out 🤔a gamble yes but required sorry but also YES

This is a good point as we definitely improved the overall quality of the squad by clearing out some players we didn't think were good enough, however that squad clear out was in League 1, where it was much more affordable to bring in top end League 1 quality to push us up the table.

However, getting Championship quality to push us up the table will be a more difficult task.

The worry that everyone has ATM (myself included) is that we have a clear out and are not able to bring in necessary quality.

Loans are fine, but think if we don't bring in 2-4 quality permanents by August 31 the squad will be looking a little makeshift (even if it is good enough to stay up).

Still have faith in the club.

Christ what a day for transfer news.

If Leicester City join then we'll certainly be able to get 3 Million minimum for him.

I've said before if he goes it wouldn't be the worst thing especially if we were able to bring in more quality, but the big "if" is if we are able to bring in quality with the money we get for him.

Which I think will be quite tricky when clubs know we have 3m to spend, you see it time and time again in football - if a club knows you have cash then they’ll hold out for more than the players true value

The 1 mill fee we are offering about is from the Critch money so I would expect any money from Bowler will be re invested, be sad to see him go he is a modern day Mathews, but should help us bring some quality in

Take Bowler out of this current team and who else is going to hurt the opposition? I just don't see it and we'd have to land at least 3 cracking signings to cover the loss. Given the way we've recruited so far this summer I have huge doubts that we'll suddenly be able to bring in 3 Championship standard players in a couple of week.

Agreed, take him out of the equation and that's our biggest threat gone and we're in trouble if we don't replace him, but the counter to the point you could argue that when he's our only source of danger we become very one dimensional and losing him could in the long run do us a world of good if (big if) we replace him with 2-3 quality players.

We've found trouble in the market, because we have a limited budget (i'd guess somwhere around 1.5 million) and the clubs we're negotiating with are being stingy, if we sold Bowler and got 3 million our budget would certainly allow us to be MUCH more aggressive and I'm very confident we could then bring in necessary replacements.

If he’s going asap is essential, otherwise we will be out of transfer time. Without him or quality replacements by Christmas we will almost certainly be down among the dead men, it would be an awful hard job to get back up.

is there a Leicester player we could take in part exchange?

Minimum of £5 million and a 20 per cent sell on clause.
I agree with this line of thinking, perhaps even asking for a good bit higher than a £5M initial fee plus add-ons. There aren't many players in the Championship with Josh Bowler's ability and thoughts of selling him for a couple of million pounds would be an unbelievable bargain for the buyer, and a massive undervaluing by us.

To be fair this is probably the toughest time to do any sort of transfer that there has ever been in football. The markets completely fucked. Combine that with a new management team that seem to want to make wholesale changes to the style of play and I do feel sorry for the recruitment team. You've essentially got a smaller pool of players to choose from, those players are on higher wages than ever before but there's less transfer budget around in general so everyones trying to get cheap deals and maximise their sales. I don't envy anyone in transfer negotiations in the UK especially atm.

Also incase anyones interested on the Andy Lyons front. He's been super the last 3 games in Europe, and Rovers have qualified for the Europa league playoff round so have guaranteed European group stage football. All of which probably makes a deal more expensive to do for Blackpool, its all gone a bit quiet around here about the deal though, seems like Blackpool are looking at other options, may come back to it though before the window closes.

Right back is the least of our problems, the lack of creativity and natural goal scorer are way bigger. I guess what budget we have is trying to fill those positions.

If they bid a million for it, I'll show an interest before I turn it down. Wages probably aren't good enough to recruit my arse anyway.
I believe the scouts have had a good look at your arse. Not the neckerchief gingangooly scouts, the actual football scouts. Your arse is on Mansfords list but he can't be arsed to get off his arse and bid for your arse. You're not a kid from Arsenal.

I was hoping he was going to stay but news of the Leicester interest and other PL clubs then he will definitely be going. I think he will go for over 3 million, somewhere between that and 5 million I would think and whoever gets him will have a bargain. That money has to be reinvested back into the squad and before the end of the transfer window.

The money has to be reinvested in the squad but it sounds very much like you would accept panic buys just to spend the money.

Why are we going for this type of player for £1M++ when the bargain basement had served us so well in the past?

Not even talking about just the stains here... last season didn't have any massive transfer fees into the club, nor the one before.

Where are all the free transfers at?

Easier said than done.

A lot of our free transfers were due to clubs cutting salaries because of covid.

What about the stains?

We managed to get at least half decent players in under them for fuck all.

How can some barely proven youngsters from league 1 cost so much?

Crazy times.

Are you sticking up for the previous regime here or just using it as an example of being able to get decent players for cheap?

If you sign a load of of cheap players then the likelihood is you’ll drop lucky and find a couple decent players amongst the crap

Because all international players require work permits since January 2021.
Work permits make it hard to sign players from other lower league sides in Europe.

This limits us to signing players from the UK or Ireland, so the pool of players available is tiny, which increases prices.

Has there ever been much of an EU presence in the Championship and League 1? As far as I can remember, the league has always been dominated by British players, with only a tiny number from elsewhere, as likely to be from Africa as the EU, and only at the PL "aspirational" clubs who can usually sort out the work permit problems anyway.

Sorry, I'm not having this "it's all Brexit's fault" line here.

In the Championship you’d probably used to have seen 30/40% of the average squad being a foreign national, 20% in League 1 and then 5-10% in League 2 and tapering off going down. Foreign nationals also played in Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland too. Not thinking that those markets being effectively closed and that a knock on effect has occurred is wishful thinking.
Brexit has 100% had a negative impact on the transfer market and the value of British players.

It's just that in the past, if we were gauged by other clubs in the UK on transfers, we at least had the option of looking abroad for players.

More on Bowler.

Josh going is looking more and more likely so let's get the deal over the line and splash the cash on a couple of strikers.
I think Patino and Fiorini will grow into the season so finding someone to convert the chances they will hopefully create is now the number one priority.

Fuck the stains.

Just an example of us getting decent players for cheap!

If this happens they must identify the 3/4 targets now & there cost to the club also create space in the squad of course.

Nixon saying Fleetwood after Stockton from Morecambe - get ready for a last minute bid from the recruitment team😉
