That creative midfielder

This summers transfers have been ever so good already, the scouts and insider knowledge that we now have at BFC is mighty impressive, and I’m sure there’s more to come.

For me, that kingpin in the middle is still the wow signing we need in the Championship. I’m assuming that Embleton will be playing for Sunderland next season, so who’s gonna fit the bill if he’s not from from current squad?

I do hope the creative bit is not aimed at Embleton.
We need far better than him.

Hamilton is a winger he isn't good enough to play as a 10

I'm expecting a better player to come but saying that when we had Kaikai the manager played him out of position

So it all depends on what shape we play

Looking at the amount of defensive players we have I'm thinking 5 at the back

We don't play a traditional no. 10 mor traditonal wingers anyway, we play two "wide" 10s.

It's more of a 4-2-2-2 than anything else.

Those positions are certainly the ones in most need of some quality given our two starters from last season aren't with us anymore.

yep, wouldn't have CJ anywhere near a no 10 role. He's an out an out winger for me who at a push could play as the front man.

Hope I’m wrong and cj gets off to a flying start, I watched the bowler interview earlier and I like what he says, wants to get at the defenders and create chances, get the fans off their seats

Yeah but so do I. My agent is still trying to get a meeting with the club though.

I can see him going with CJ or Bowler in that 8 role behind Jerry. Dimi might be our new RW if he keeps developing at pace
CJ ain’t an 8 or 10, his pace is by far his best attribute - he needs to be out wide. Bowler more likely, Anderson too. Although I’d like an addition in that position

I thought Bowler was more of a runner/dribbler than a passer? CJ is nowhere near a 10.

Keshi is only player on the books anything like in my mind.

There's a lad available on a free I believe. Ex Crystal Palace. Tore it up in the 10 role at Shrewsbury. Dribbles, passes like a dream technically gifted. Leading assist maker and second most goal contributions at a promoted club last year. Worth a look? 🤣

Think we do need a creator. Lots of steel, lots of pace but not sure we've got that brain/instinct/sense for the key pass yet.

Agree, Embo is a decent footballer but had far too many games were he had little impact. He did improve as he adapted however so I wouldn't be disappointed if he did sign but think we need someone who can dominate play and have a greater overall influence.

Just signed one. 👍

.... maybe.
Could be a nugget. Played inamans league and excelled. So why not? If not this season then hopefully next but if Sims n Ballard could come in having played less full on football then why not Sonny Carey. ( Always the optimist 😁)

C'mon Hetzke you'll have read a few replies on this thread now.
Who do you think we should be getting in in the midfield?

Arturo Neguso going for a song from FC Botticelli. Has a wand of a left foot though admittedly at the veteran stage of his career.

Mmmmmm, how about Charlie Adam for one.

calm down everyone, I couldn't resist that 😄

Looking at the squad, I think we've got a good mix of youth, pace, ball winners etc,. But I think we need a maestro, who may not be played every game depending on team formations, opposition etc and maybe someone with Premiership/Championship experience. Possibly someone on a free that will demand the salary rather than the transfer fee, but either way, experience and creative. As well as Charlie, we previously had players like Wellens, Hoolehan, O'hara who all made things happen and that's the bit of experience for the Championship we need to find,

So, here's a stab at a few free agents that may fit the bill - in my opinion of course.,....

Jack Wilshire - free
Liam Walsh - free
Henri Lansbury - free
George Moncur - free
agree with Jorge Grant as suggested - would need a release fee though?

Any others Wizz? 😊

Not from me kid, I'm enjoying the ride at the mo.
Everyone at Bloomfield rd seems well dialed in to what the master plan is.
I think it's best if we leave it upto Critch and the recruitment team whether they need a midfield maestro, play maker or anyone else tbh.
My only concern is that apart from James, most of the other signings have been very young (or is it me being very old!!)
We'll have to wait and see what's around the corner. But I'm sure whoever is brought in will be for the best of the club in general 👍🏻

One thing is for sure, no one with any experience and quality in that role will be cheap in the Championship and will probably break SS’s wage structure. There’s a few weeks left yet so we may still get what I feel we need, but as you say, we’ve to trust in NC

I remember watching Boyd at Stevenage when they were non league and recommended him to Blackpool, same with Grant Holt who was playing for Rochdale as well as Barry Hales at Stevenage, they all turned out okay.

I think this lad is the most exciting of the signings so far.

After playoffs I am wondering if Dougall wants to be the attacking midfielder, as we are well placed with defensive midfielders if he were allowed to play higher up the pitch.

I can see him going forward more but he's too good at the ugly stuff to stop being a defensive midfielder. Can see him scoring more this season though, after his play off hat trick. We would have lost that game without him.

I was bloody worried when Simms was declared injured. Step forward Kenny Dougall.

Bump apologies, but quite a few pool fans at the game today have already posted on the Morecambe match day thread that we’re missing that creative midfielder. I’m really not sure who it’ll be from the current squad or whether we need to push the boat out in the market before Bristol. Either way, it appears it’s becoming a concern like the right back slot, especially in the Championship?
