Prior to last Saturday's game, myself and the Mrs decided to have pre-match drinks and something to eat in the Corner Flag. We were taking 2 grandchildren to the game and thought it would be a nice touch for us all to have lunch there rather than in the pub/pub's.
We arrived at 13.00, and looked for a table. To my bemusement, all the tables that were empty were reserved. We decided to go to the bar and order a drink and I asked the bar staff if there were any tables that weren't reserved as we wanted to eat. I was told to ask the manageress when she became available, which is what I did. Her response was, that the tables are reserved and that they are booked on a season long basis, and that she would have to keep them reserved up to at least 14.00.
So to me, this seems like lost revenue for the club, due to the fact we could have ordered four meals and more drinks before 14.00. If this is the case, then the tables should be reserved for a set time, meaning that if no one turns up at that time then the table could be used for others. I also noticed that 50% of the tables that were occupied, were folk just drinking and not eating.
When ew left at 14.10 after finishing our drinks stood at the bar, I counted 7 empty tables but still reserved. Due to the terrible weather we decided against walking to the Bloomfield for food and just settled for a pie on the concourse.
Maybe this is something our SLO could look into.
Just to add: I was talking to a few Luton fans at the bar who were staying in the Hotel, and they couldn't even get room service for food on a match day. They too had to stand at the bar with no tables available.
