The royal family attract huge amounts of revenue to the UK through such things as tourism. They are much admired throughout the world and there are so many in this world who would like a Royal family such as ours. There is another reason, it has always tickled me how much they get on the tits of the hard left.

No doubt when they are here they enjoy all the pomp and pageantry but isnât it just a part of our Heritage? And the tourists come for the full package. Not just the Royal Family.

HM the Queen was on the throne when I was born and that was 60 odd years ago so I take my hat off to her.
Thereâs a lot worse Leeches out there that contribute absolutely nothing at all to our country.
Britain has had a Royal family for a thousand years and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future so itâs afrom me, yet another thing in this country we can be proud of.

I also think the 'Head of State' moniker is a bit of a red herring, it's ceremonial at best with little to no power attached, thankfully, the actual Head of State in this country is the Prime Minister.

Iâve got a lot of sympathy for that view, although it does assume that the King/Queen isnât part of the political establishment.
I must confess I have no real idea how other countries choose their heads of state (by which I mean the figureheads rather than the Presidents with real power) but there must be different options that avoid the risk you highlight.

It isn't a crime to be left of centre or right of centre. It isn't a crime in this country to be a communist but you might be on thin ice if you are an active fascist.
Writing that having a hereditary monarchy might not be a preferred option, is not left wing extremism, it is a commonly held view by millions of people in this country that you don't agree with.
Having a different opinion to you is also not a hate crime or seditious or a call to revolution, it's just an alternative view.

I thnk ESBN comes closest to summarising what I think. There is little doubt that, in the 21st century, a Royal Family of the kind we have increasingly looks anachronistic.
I'm not sure that the "net value" that people ascribe to them as individuals really stands up to scrutiny. I think people buy into the mystique and the tradition, and you would have foreign tourists gawping at Buck House even if the local window cleaner was living in it.
I think the Queen, generally speaking, has done a very good job for us. It is not a lifestyle I would choose, and she gave her life over to public service when she was still pretty young. I doubt we will see her like again.
And that is the crux of it, isn't it? Her daughter has brought a certain degree of good will and allure to the product, but have the others? I'm not sure what Edward does, if anything, Andrew has brought notoriety (after a fine career in the armed forces, to be fair) and if Charles were anybody else the Civil Service would have him pegged as a vexatious correspondent by now. As it is, he was always regarded as a bit of an oddball and a pest when I was working.
I think Brenda's death will trigger some far reaching changes. Because the people who follow her lack her ability and dedication, and won't generate more than a fraction of the goodwill.

Iâm open minded about this subject. I find your OP unhelpful in its tone but find myself agreeing with an element of its content . People born into privilege should not be vilified simply for being so but when they abuse that privilege they should face the same consequences as you or I, the same goes for anyone who has acquired so called, celebrity status and or wealth.
The one thing a Monarchy does ensure is a non political stability, I am yet to be convinced such a divided society like ours could achieve that in a non political way.

Do non-monarchical countries suffer a corresponding lull in tourism because they lack a King or a Queen? Do I choose the Netherlands over France because it has a monarchy? Tourists to France visit the Louvre and the Place de la Concorde because of their heritage but that is done without any need for a monarch.

I think you're being totally unreasonable trying to compare France and the Netherlands. Sure, the Dutch have a monarchy but in terms of appeal it doesn't close to ours with regards to what tourists want to see. Like it not our Monarchy and it's history is a fascination to millions of people round the world. France is France and in Paris it has it's romanticism which appeals to the world over. It really is as simple as that.

I made the point that some people claimed the Royal Family brought millions of pounds into the U.K. by way of tourism. I asked whereâs the evidence for that? And raised the possibility that maybe tourists come here for all sorts of reasons. Our culture. Our countryside. Our theatres and literary history. London. The Lake District. Scotland. Our heritage. Iâve even met some who came here just for the footy. Sonthe Royal Family may be responsible for a part of the income produced but Iâve seen no evidence at all that tourists come to the U.K. exclusively because of the Royal Family or that a specific sum can be apportioned to them.
Do you have any evidence that they do? Or can you say what proportion of revenue from Tourism can exclusively be attributed to the Royal Family?
So not negativity. Just a couple of questions asking people to stand up what theyâve claimed.
Now if you donât believe that the Royal Family produce loads of money then fine. Iâm asking the question to the wrong person. But you did respond to my post so itâs only polite to do likewise.
