The naivety of Critch

Gabriel, terrible performance and should have been hooked at ht. The inevitable happens and the obvious replacement is Sterling for Madine so we still have an attacking threat from Jerry, Kesh and Josh, giving them something to think about. He takes off our two most dangerous threats and leaves Madine on who possibly won't last the 90 minutes. Huddersfield with no attacking threat to worry about go for it and guess what , they win it ! The loss is down to Critch for me.

Don’t blame the Manager - he did his job ok - one player cost us that game nd he should never play for us again - I wouldn’t hVe done either of those ridiculous tackles

It's been mentioned several times before and I'm in agreement here, Critch is a young manager and young managers make mistakes and he is definitely naive in his decision making.

Sure Critch has lots to be positive about but anyone who thinks some of his decisions are not costing us points is deluded.

Agreed today. Subs said sit back. Needed to either leave Bowler on or get Hamilton on and give a pacy outlet. Invited pressure and you simply can’t do that at this level. They were not very good and we gave them a get out of jail free card. Sooooo frustrating today

I'm Critch's staunchest defender but Gabriel was having a mare as well as being on a yellow, Critch does the youth coach thing sometimes of keeping faith when occasionally a change is necessary. What happened is a bigger blow to Gabriel's confidence than subbing him would have been. And cost us a point or three. Lobbing Keogh in to confuse the CBs who were doing well wasn't too clever either, IMO. Both goals were stoppable and came partly cos of that confusion of roles.

I'm out of work at the moment and believe a replacement for McCall is being sought. 🤣

Ask yourself for the2nd yellow what threat was their player where he was ?

So why did he wipe him out ?

A 4 year old would have better discipline

I am finding our ability to work so hard very hard to swallow with the likes of defeats like today, at Birmingham etc - some of it is pathetic player professionalism

I would always just be happy to stay up this season. The team is evolving, we are not entitled to win every match and never make a bad decision. Look at all the positives in the club. Simon Sadler was always wanting to build up the club via a successful youth strategy and that is happening. Seeing players on frees and lower divisions prove themselves as able to compete in the championship is a bonus.
A lot more rights than wrongs, but some posters seem to be close cousins of 62 and counting, and slating good players and a manager is par for the course for some.

Bullshit, I judge everything that we do on a 90 minute basis. Critch cost us the game.

Disagree pal, no way are people slating players and the manager, they are making an informed comment based on what they are seeing with their eyes.

One thing I wouldn't do personally is slate a player who has the tangerine shirt on his back, its counterproductive, however sensible comments on a message board are fair enough, you cannot expect people to post anything but their own opinions.

My comments are all about the 90 minutes that I've just witnessed. No criticism on the 'bigger ' picture just on Critch's game management today from 1500 until 1715. Is that simple enough ?

I think you're being a bit OTT. Understandable in the immediate aftermath of a disappointing defeat but we are having a good season and learning, with a young squad, and a young manager, who are all doing remarkably well. Lowest budget in the league I suspect.

Perspective.

Agreed Voy, But Critch's tactical deficiencies are being highlighted on a regular basis. Thats why Calderwoods contribution was invaluable and we need to get someone to assist Critch with a similar gravitas very soon.

Feel exactly the same regarding Critchley. Hes far too defensive in his set up and general gameplan. I feel sorry for the attackers as they dont get enough quality service and rely on half chances r mistakes by the opposition defence. Why did we not shift the ball more quickly to the big non caucasian at the back for them??? He was their weak link and should have been playing Rugby for South Africa. He was that slow, on the turn and can only recall Bowler leaving him for dead once in the second half. We dont exploit teams!!!!!! Thats man management. Their winger was given carte blanche to put crosses in and looked dangerous every time he came forward. Didnt think either of Gabriels tackles were cards, very unlucky in my opinion. Great support but let down by the manager today.

Sterling for Madine. Your absolutely Fu**ing nuts.

We have a great coach, but he is still learning. Some of his substitutions are hard to fathom and invite the opposition to attack. When we were all over them going forward today’s were shocking. Whatever NC said post match it was a dreadful challenge by Gabriel and worthy of the punishment received. The defeat down to him and the consequential appalling substitutions By NC.

Not at all. Sterling comes on after the red and goes to right back for Gabriel, and we sacrifice Madine, who was knackered and Yates was playing really well.

I thought keep Yates on and go for another goal but you know Critchley is always too defensive. It was impossible to hold on for 25 minutes 😳

I was surprised Yates came off rather than Madine but I suppose the thinking was he would be better at holding the ball up, I happen to disagree and would prefer the work rate of Yates but it's a call he made and at the time I had no huge issues just either or. Tbh I didn't really have a problem with the shape change and bringing bowler off when we went down to 10 as he's hardly the most defensive minded of players. Hindsight is 20/20 but let's be honest we were in trouble the moment we went down to 10, I certainly wouldn't blame Critch. Its just one of them things.

Yep totally agree with that. I agree he got it wrong today. Udders must have been ringing their hands that our attacking threat had been totally nullified by the subs. Gave them the backing to go and get the goals they needed and that’s what they did.

His subs were great last home match though. If we had held on, and the conceded goals were not Critchley's fault again everyone would have been happy. Saw earlier Huddersfield fans were defending Gabriel and saying he could not pull out of it but it was obvious there was no intent.

After Gabriel's first half performance and booking, would you have subbed him at half time ?
I would have had no hesitation taking him off at halftime given he was on a yellow, and I said at halftime he's just as likely to pick up another yellow trying to make up for his bad performance. How often do we see it happen.it was almost written. I felt no surprise when it's actually happened

Your post makes no sense, today was a different match, we didn't hold on and the Huddersfield fans weren't refereeing the game. What are you not seeing here ?

We're all disappointed because we got no points when we should have got 3. I'd have hooked Gabriel at HT on the booking alone, that's what other teams do.
The subs just added to Hudds momentum and the way we set up once down to 10 men we all knew we were going to lose.
Some great stuff played until the sending off.

Same as every other manager then?

And the reality is we have lost 6 in 7 ~ that is League 1 form
That’s my perspective - Gabriel wrecked a good team performance and I am not interested in excuses
