Watford v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 14.01.23

Looking forward to this game after the Forest performances, hoping it may be the result we needed for some confidence.

My team would be
Maxwell (would rather grimshaw personally but we know that won’t happen)
Lyons
Marv
Judd
Husband
Dougall
Carey
Bowler
Poveda
CJ (deserves another game after the Forest performance)
Yates.

Think Patino needs a rest although there may possibly be a clause in his contract to say if he is fit he has to start (has he missed a game yet when he has been fully fit?)

Also think we play better without madine and that front 4 could cause mayhem by swapping around and running at them, then the likes of rogers, lavery and madine to come on to mix it up if needed
 
Agree Patino needs a rest, Rogers to come on as a sub, sounds good, have we given up on Madine in doesn’t seem to get in peoples selection recently on this board 🤔 if we go 4,4,2 then maybe we need to find a way to fit him in
 
Charlie covers so much ground, a rest may do him good, but I don't think KK puts the same shift in or has the passing ability, so if fit Charlie starts for me. Alongside a new boy fingers crossed to take some of the weight off his young shoulders.

This would be my team too (with Grimmy playing). I think he’ll play Carey and Patino together in midfield though. He’ll probably play Madine if fit instead of Yates.

Would go 4-2-3-1 personally, if we play 2 up front Madine will have to be in the team but then its the case who do you drop/play alongside him out of the other attackers?

Yeh I fully expect it to be charlie and carey and then madine upfront but really dont think madine up front is the answer to our problems
 
I think if their injuries are as bad as reported...I reckon 1-3 to the mighty.

Just got this from their forum

I just checked our squad list. If you take out the injured and ineligible, we only have 16 first team players available. If you consider 3 of those are keepers, we only really have 15 players.

Players available:- Bachmann, Hamer, Morris, Gaspar, Ngakia, Ferreira, Cathcart, WTE, Pollock, Sierralta, Kone, Sarr, Hungbo, Aprilla, Bayo.

Clearly Okoya is also available. Martins we don't know the WP situation, so I'm assuming he won't be cleared to play but we may be lucky enough to have Choudhury back.

Either way, it's pretty grim reading right now.

That is a team and subs bench that should comfortably stay up. The last 10 days have been really positive which is exactly what you need when on a poor run. Kudos to the board, they have demonstrated their determination to stay in this league.

For the first time probably this season Appy has every managers nice to have problem a team selection from a decent set of players, given the fact we we’re scrambling around to get the bare minimum out only a few weeks ago. I can see Josh, Tommy T and MR starting on the bench:

And I reckon Connolly will start instead of Lyons!
 
Got to be too early for Tommy T?

Certainly I’d start Kenny again in midfield as he looked good on Saturday and one of the two kids need a break (both if one replaces the other in second half at some stage)

Again with Bowler can you drop Lavery when we are away, after last match against the trees? Maybe best to unleash Josh second half and ease him back in. We’ve a lot of games coming up.

I have to say it could easily be Lyons at right back and Carey for Patino. I think CJ has to start after last week but he did go off with an injury, so if he is injured Rogers in his place and Lavery on the bench. First time all season there are players who have been first teasers not even getting in the 18! That has to be a good thing.

I'm not sure big Gaz using his quota up in 60 minutes is the best way to play him. I hope we don't continually go long hoping for a flick or header to feed off. A more footballing approach is needed interspersed with the odd long ball & players swapping sides, what I'm saying is keep the opposition on their toes by varying our attacks.

Absolute mental that you wouldn’t start Bowler. If he is on the bench, then that would be even more bizarre than playing Beesley right wing.

The tripe that contributed to a 4-1 win last Saturday? Wake up sunshine. Josh’s last competitive match was as a substitute on Nov 9th. Over two months ago.

I’ve been saying CJ should be starting for a long time. Not enough for me. In some ways it proved my point that we need to start playing proper wingers and not strikers.

Plus, that was a one off cup tie. We need to do that where it matters in the league.

You just know he's going to play madine up top though!

I know jez is our top scorer, but I wouldnt argue with him either, he's our only natural outfield leader.
 
Trybull says in radio lancs interview that he’s not match fit , as he hasn’t played since early November.Hopes to be available soon . I suspect he may be on the bench though despite that .
