Yep - all I read from that article is Appleton saying he wants to see that he maintains consistency and not let him get distracted, but there will be a time in the new year to discuss contracts.Your reading something into it that doesn’t exist.
He’s probably wanting a pay rise which Appleton will no doubt have to force out of the club as we all know we don’t like to spend money.Yep - all I read from that article is Appleton saying he wants to see that he maintains consistency and not let him get distracted, but there will be a time in the new year to discuss contracts.
It's a balancing act I guess - I'm sure Thornily's agent is working hard to secure him a decent contract too, with us or elsewhere.
Personally, I'd like to see him signed up - he's dependent without standing out, and is only 25, so should get even better.
It feels like that to you.It feels like he’s still having to prove himself. I honestly don’t know what more he has to do.
“First and foremost, let’s make sure he continues to play well”. That’s Appletons words, not mine. I personally think he’s one of our most consistent players so simply don’t understand that phrase when applied to Thorniley. It feels like that to you.
In reality he doesn't have to prove his worth to anyone.
He has more than shown himself to be a competent, calm defender.
Haven't read the article but I bet it continues........."any contract talk can mess with a players head etc etc"“First and foremost, let’s make sure he continues to play well”. That’s Appletons words, not mine. I personally think he’s one of our most consistent players so simply don’t understand that phrase when applied to Thorniley.
"First and foremost, let's make sure he starts to play really really really really shite..."“First and foremost, let’s make sure he continues to play well”. That’s Appletons words, not mine. He's only our best centre back so far this year... get him away on a free, sound.Jordan has been a good player for us and very solid, but I doubt very much that he is the limit of our ambitions at Centre Back.
He and his Agent will have a view on his value and Blackpool will have a view on what options might be available.
He’s not a player that we really need to be paying over the odds for.
In January he can sign a pre contract with another club. He’s already been badly treated by the previous management, if he thinks the club don’t value his services he’ll be away, and I wouldn’t blame him. They were falling over themselves to give Stewart a new contract.I’m sure he will be offered a new contract when the club feel the time is right 100%
As above ☝ that has nailed the whole debate about him.....In January he can sign a pre contract with another club. Depends how much of that £5m we need to spend on a really nice patio for CB though???Maybe Oxford are tabling a £5m bid and giving us CB in January?
He’s been out most consistent performer at CB this season for sure. Like I say though, I wouldn’t be fighting over his contractHe's only our best centre back so far this year... get him away on a free, sound.

"The truth is no one knows what goes on in contract negotiations apart from the club, player and agent..."The truth is no one knows what goes on in contract negotiations apart from the club, player and agent. We only get to hear after the event.
It'd be stupid of anyone from the club to profess that we've tied JT down to a 2 year contract only for news of him signing for Brighton to surface.
Appleton is only giving the minimum in interviews on the subject and for that I applaud him.
Another thread speculating on players leaving that is unnecessary . Some people just want drama in their lives.Or are we just missing something? He’s at a good age, versatile, never let us down, but this doesn’t sound like he’ll be staying Gerzette
1 of only a few of our players that had championship experience so on a decent package no doubtHe is on a top wage Critch rated him but thought not worth being one of the top paid
Yet we give utter crocs new deals, sign players who are already injured and don’t embrace and reward a player who has been excellent for us and treated woefully.Or are we just missing something? He’s at a good age, versatile, never let us down, but this doesn’t sound like he’ll be staying Gerzette
Thompson had only played a handful of games for us when Appleton was touting him as the next big thing. No worries that it could stop him continuing to play well there. Personally I’ve seen nothing in Thorniley’s demeanour that would indicate that negotiating a contract might adversely affect his form. Quite the opposite after everything he’s had thrown at him. Unless they’re planning to offer him much reduced terms!Yet we give utter crocs new deals, sign players who are already injured and don’t embrace and reward a player who has been excellent for us and treated woefully.
Probably not, but he won’t be on tall money here and if he feel wanted elsewhere and a slight rise in pay he may well go. Don’t forget Cardiff, Swansea are outside England but still the same level of football.AFAIK, only outside of England, which probably isn't going to be his first choice.
Pretty sure Cardiff and Swansea are governed by the same rules as the English clubs in which case he can't sign a pre- contract for them or any other English club.Probably not, but he won’t be on tall money here and if he feel wanted elsewhere and a slight rise in pay he may well go. I f that’s the case, there’s always the SPL, they’re definitely not governed by the same rules.Pretty sure Cardiff and Swansea are governed by the same rules as the English clubs in which case he can't sign a pre- contract for them or any other English club.
I'd like to think as a Championship club we are now more than capable of paying most players a decent package!1 of only a few of our players that had championship experience so on a decent package no doubt

Maybe Olympiacos might want him to sit on the benchProbably not, but he won’t be on tall money here and if he feel wanted elsewhere and a slight rise in pay he may well go. Don’t forget Cardiff, Swansea are outside England but still the same level of football.
Either way, this discussion shouldn’t be taking place, he should be offered a new contract asap. We know what he’s about, it wouldn’t involve a transfer fee, a sigh of relief from Mansford, and whilst I also wouldn’t break the pay structure for him , he’s definitely worth trying to keep. But then are Rangers/Celtic likely to be interested, and is anyone else up there going to be paying anything more than we are?
The bigger risk is that he decides to run down his contract, and someone like Cardiff etc are willing to pay him more than we can offer.

According to Appleton talks will take place when the time is right, and the time isn’t now, he said. I’m hoping by that he means we don’t need distractions now. I also hope the time will be during the WC break, when there aren’t any distractions.Neither of us know what discussions have taken place, or are intended to take place, but yes keep if possible.
