What Secondary School did you go to?

Wookie,

assuming you left after 5th year, you're the same age as me. You play football for anyone?

Should have added, Millfield for me. Left in 92. Good PE teacher there....
I played for St Aidans for both my year and the year above (we had some good players in my year group, far better than me). Wyre Juniors & then Wyre Villa before i joined the Army in 1996. Played mainly as a centre half but occasionally as a defensive midfielder as well.

Arnold too...must have been in the same era...Saturday morning school finished in 66 I think but they just added more hours on the week...and as for effing CCF...hated the place...no happy memories whatsoever...except in the juniors when Sir Jimmy took the occasional class and actually did some one offs coaching of our football team...Seniors ...it was Rugby Union..and I loved Blackpool Borough in those early days😉 but saw the light and became BFC.

For the record...seniors...left 68 ( at 17) to go to Liverpool Uni...but skipped year 4 in the Seniors as we were supposedly the bright fast stream...if only😉

Post Edit..our years Rugby team ( under 12s ) was possibly the worst ever....lost every game we played including ( god forbid) against non grammar schools. Also Remember playing Stonyhurst who ( had line out calls😳) thumped us around 76 0.
In fact we only scored three points all season...my claim to fame( sic) was I scored them.Always embarrasing when Holgate had to read out the scores at assembly.I got booted off the team for refusing to run the line when injured one saturday...probably explains why I never made monitor let alone prefect...or it might relate to a cigarette incident and a ** of a French teacher post O Levels at Jodrell Bank...my only caning at school and on a Saturday when post O Levels you were exempt school that morning.
Funny you should mention Stonyhurst. One of the few times I played rugby for the school was there and my abiding memory is that they
served up bacon and egg for us after the game!

I don't do Facebook, but I have been in the past pupils association for 40 years. Used to attend the southern section dinners when working in Surrey and went to the 300th anniversary dinner in the school hall in 2017
I was the toastmaster that evening. Great cake donated by MIke Aldersley.

Wookie - played against the year above too - Sharp and Forrester? Both very good players. Think I've worked out who you might be. At the Rolls a couple of summers ago for Karl's day in court?

BGS, anyone remember staff members Dr. Benson, Ernie Harrison, Bill Breeze, Joe Grindrod, Don Murdoch, Jack Bowman from the glorious fifties.
Whits, I remember the first 3. Dr Benson whacked me a few times. Harriso, if he's the same one, was the one who was taken off teaching duties because he used the chop with a flat hand on the back of lads necks.

Any of you ex Arnold lads remember a teacher called Parker? Granville first name.
Would have been a teacher in the 50/60/70s.

Never played them at their place. In fact most games always seemed to be at Arnold.... on the pitches near St.Annes Road....not that home advantage made any difference😉
What Years were you there?if you did Saturday Morning School you must have been there when I was or maybe one of my two brothers though they were older than me by 4 and 6 years respectively...which Would make you older than me.If I remember rightly CCF only started in ones third year but I could be wrong...I even tried the Navy Section( anything to get out of those terribly itchy Khaki clothes) but got out completely in my A level year and got to play 5 a side in the Gym instead ( at least one happy memory).

Fleetwood Grammar.
Another contender for worst rugby team ever............24 lads in the year and we had to get 15 for a team.I played scrum half.
Loved playing Rossall, we always got pumped but they served great grub after the game.
Our PE teacher to his credit found a team worse than us and we won by a try and conversion to nil.
I got the try!!!!!

Rings a bell but no more than that. What did he teach? My era was more Bill Entwisle and the chain smoking Geography ( Rugby Mad) teacher whose name escape me right now, who were also my form teachers in different years.Actually they were both decent teachers unlike a certain Maths teacher ( Bentley) who to this day I despise, as do both my older brothers who Had him too, though apparently he was a Big BFC fan( still hate him).

We had in theory up to say 90 lads available and it still didn’t help( each year had 3 classes of around 25 to 30 boys) up to O Level)
personally never got to enjoy the taste of victory as I got booted off the team as previously explained and after that couldn’t care less how each years team did( it was Rugby not football after all).

I remember playing in a Rugby 7s tournament for Collegiate 2nd team at Fylde Rugby Club I think? It was a tournament with little leagues and the winners went through to a knock out basis, we were drawn in the same group as Kirkham Grammar 1st 7. Never have I witnessed a more one sided sporting match up! At half time we thought F It and just had a scrap with the posh boys all second half😂

No idea what he taught, he was my best mates older brother. Also their two younger Bros. went to Arnold, would have been 50/60s.
Funny how my mate was the only one not to go to Arnold but was the most successful, building a chain of carpet/furniture shops.
He went to Tyldesley & Palatine.

Not Fylde, but the game we scored our only points( a penalty kick by yours truly) in the entire school season was against Andsell Secondary School ( now Lytham St.Annes High School I believe) who we were told by our teachers we were bound to beat as ...well they’re not a Rugby School like us.We arrived in the changing room to find what we thought was their teacher as he looked about six foot and we were just 12 year olds ( in the early sixties this meant a good bit less than 5 foot as a rule).No....turned out he was one of the players. It was so one sided in that every time they got the ball to him nobody could stop him.At half time they decided it was so embarrassing they took him off and replaced him.Think they scored close to 50 points in old scores.
still reckon he was a teacher😉

1959 to 1966. Yes, CCF started in the 3rd form , not my cup of tea at all. Like you say the horrible feel of the uniform , the marching , the field days
away , makes me cringe thinking about it even now. Saturday mornings stopped the year after I left...thanks Arnold!!

Certainly do Dave , hence my moniker! He taught Latin and English and was my first form master. A man not to be messed with in
the classroom and was generally well respected . I got on ok with him as I played cricket which he was heavily involved in.

Lunatics ?
I would suggest Physcopaths (and then some). I have seen fist fights between 6th Formers and the Brotherhood 💀

Following on from the junior school thread.

Highfield High. Left in 1999. Some bizarre goings on during my time there. Music teacher killed himself after accusations of him having inappropriate relations with a female pupil. Headmaster had a sex change shortly after I left. Fair play to her
Palatine Bennett Ave left in 67

Claremont secondary 1966-67 then left to move down to Plymouth where I ended up playing schools footy and for Plymouth schoolboys u15s with a certain Trevor Francis .

St Aidan's left in 2005
Jimmy Armfields son was my PE teacher and football/cricket/rugby coach was always a laugh talking about his dad and BFC

Tyldesley 73 to 78.
Did no one else go there? Got to admit it was a crap school and there were no more than a handful of Pool fans that I remember.

Another Highfield here in the early 80's - met someone from my class recently who can still reel off the register 🙄

Playing Friends school from Preston at rugby for St. jo’s Was the most bizarre experience. They were Mormons and didn’t believe in physical violence, so they just didn’t tackle. I played scrum half and getting the ball from a line out, just ran straight through their forwards with anyone stopping me.

I certainly was there for Karls day in court. Correct Sharp and Forrester were different level. Terry Clarkson in my year was also a great player but wasted his talent as he got older.

Warbreck 1976 to 1981.
What a great set of lads to go through school with.
Some are gone now sadly 😞
But hi to all the rest 🖐

Butty

I knew Granville very well, often in their house on Charnley Rd as Norman, 2nd brother of 4, was my best friend ever.
Unfortunately Granville & Norman have both passed on. Granville was about 6 years older than us, but still knew him very well.

Myself and a former classmate actually went to Granville's funeral . I think it was the day before the Forest away play off. There was a big turnout , including Jimmy Armfield , which showed the esteem in which he was held.

Fess, we were living in France at the time, otherwise I would also have gone. Managed to get to Normans funeral.
In the vicars talk he mentioned that Norman and friends would climb into the Co-op and go on the roof when it was closed.
He asked if anyone there had been with him. I put up my hand and he said 'See me later'. Joking of course.
