Why do we seem to only be able to play for 45m?

Tinkerman and instructions to keep it tight pre match or at half time.
Yep this.
If we score first, we tend to "protect what we have" and go too defensive.

Or

With Critch 's stubbornness with a formation that doesn't work (or has rarely worked for the first 16 games or so), we play well after going behind to get back into the game, but then go defensive again (Fleetwood)

I've never seen such a one-half team. It's not helped by poor substitutions though. Dembele should have gone off when he stopped influencing the game and started being pushed around. Andy Lyons was not in the game at all (not surprisingly). Beesley looked out of his depth against the National League side. Where was CJ? If ever there was a need for him to stand on the halfway line and keep two defenders occupied this was the game. If Shane Lavery was too fast for their defence CJ would have had a field day.

We played for 90 minutes which reflects the score
If you listen to the pundits and the Bromley manager it was an all round professional performance from us and when you consider the number of changes from Wednesday it shows we have strength in depth
Unfortunately a lot of posters on here expect us to win every single game and even when we do win it’s never good enough
If Critch had played the same team as Wednesday and we had got beaten then he would have been slagged off for not resting players.
Do people get a kick out out of constantly slagging off the manager? And if so are really supporters of BFC.

The answer is - He doesn't know what he's doing, that second half was dog doo .... If Bromley had scored does anyone think they wouldn't have scored a second, they were better than us in the second half ? His substitutions are beyond comprehension, his starting team selections apart from tonight are generally bizarre, his tactics are boringly defensive and we have players that should be nowhere near the first team ... I know we won but I'm bored of him, bored of knowing what he's going to do and bored of generally knowing the outcome. He's so predictable it's boring ...

Very well said

Has anyone on here ever played football because i don't get what I'm reading, its like reading a comic book.

The snake needs to stay out of the dressing room at half time plain and simple because whatever he’s saying it’s having a massive negative effect on the players.
What he’s saying is, if we’re winning, just defend, if we’re losing, attack until we’re winning then defend. He doesn’t seem to realise that the other team might score.

At least we can play for 45 mins. That's not a given.

Second half wasn't very good at all but we're through and we weren't embarrassed on telly.

In this specific instance I agree it was a combination of a lack of pace once Lavs went and Bromley having nothing to lose and therefore our wing backs getting pushed deeper.

As for why there's a recurring pattern...

I can’t remember a season where we’ve played such Jekyll and Hyde performances between one half and the other. What’s going on?
Without any intention to sledge anyone ..or Critch, my simple thoughts are.
We seem ( ? ) to set up from the off ...not to concede ? ..and hit em on the break ?
When behind we attack and do so very well
When level it appears to be - we will be patient and look for a chance or two
When in front ..switch to defending a lead, with substitutions to suit that plan.

I just don't think we are good enough or settled enough to boss games. Not enough cohesion, it comes together at times, but two teams determine the flow of a game.

Echo all above

In the interests of balance, Critchley in his post match interview was very damning of the second half performance. He said the message at half time was to keep going, win challenges, win second balls and when we got possession keep it. He said we did none of that and we have a lot of work to do. If we play like we did first half we will win games, if we play like we did second half we won't. Plenty to work on He said and clearly wasn't happy.

congratulations on your 37th post.
20’s, out of interest mate, what are your views on the game? If you’ve posted elsewhere I apologise
BTW, I thought Marvin had a brilliant game and does seem to be getting back to his best although I still get a bit nervy about his short passing game 😂
I can see him starting next week

How about giving some credit to the opposition…oh by the way we won but of Course that isn’t good enough for some of you ,some of whom I would expect to know better.
of course give the opposition some credit but our tactics and negative substitutions contributed to them getting on top in that second half and making the game much harder than it needed to be. Unless of course you think our substitutions weren't negative ones.

First half we were totally dominant playing some great attacking football and could have been even more in front. Second half was everything we expect from a Critchley team that is solely out to protect a lead.

Marv was magnificent but then I've always thought he was.

That’s why I mentioned him!

I think the issue is that we are far better attacking teams than we are at holding teams at bay
That could be tactics or personnel.
The teams that normally get promoted will have both parts of the game in their locker but when they smell blood they will put teams to the sword
Critchley's substitutes have lately had the effect of stopping our flow and handing the impetus back to teams
Or in reverse his starting line up has handed teams the impetus from the start
Its worrying that we are well into the season and this is continuing
I'd imagine most of the top teams would play dembele from the start and take him off after an hour instead of how we seem to do the opposite most games
This isn't a rant ,
Merely and observation
Before the usual suspects get shirty

My 40th post - Your correct Marv was magnificent that's the most sensible thing you have said

Crutch invariably picks the wrong team so we’re shit for 45 minutes and he then brings on the attacking players at half time or in the second half. If we do start well and take the lead, he then shuts up shop.

second half was simply unacceptable but he doesn't realise it was down to him. This mentality thing is down to him not the

Apart from when we play better in the 2nd half. That must be a different snake in the dressing room having a massive positive effect?

I was going to post something very similar. Its the first time I can recall Critchley actually stating what his message was to the players at half time. He never mentioned about being defensive or shutting up shop for the second half but to keep going and to play like we did in the first half. Now I am by no means Critchleys love child and like many I have been bewildered by his formations, player selection and decision making. I just found this post match interview different in so much as he was stating that the players didn't follow his instructions. The question should then have been asked " Why didn't they do what you asked them to ?" He seemed as frustrated as we fans watching the second half.

Easily? don't think the second half was anything like easy, they had several decent chances, a better team would probably have taken..
Of course a better team may have taken those chances, but I don’t remember O’Donnell making any tough stops, and most of their decent chances went out for throws. We did more than enough to win the game without needing to bring on Rhodes or CJ. Managed the game more then well enough IMO.

I didn't have my Critchleycam switched on today but did anyone notice if he was ushering his players forward in the second half? They certainly needed it, we must have backed off at least ten yards for the second 45, the midfield was all at sea and our forward movement was non existent.

He’s always ushering them forward… I think there’s a mentality that developed last year, which needs to be eradicated.
