Wigan Athletic v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 12.11.22

Could Quitch be in charge by Saturday?
(I obviously mean for Wigan).

Great chance to get 3 points. Wigan manager had to go in sadly. I like to say it was very odd that he only signed a new deal few weeks back.

What's the latest update on who's available tomorrow? Can we field a decent team?
@matt_scrafton
James Husband will be missing against Wigan tomorrow but it's hoped he will be one of five players who are back available for the first game after the break. Keshi Anderson likely to be out until the end of the year/start of 2023. Scans confirmed a Grade 2 hamstring tear.

@seanmcsport

James Husband won't be back for Wigan with his hamstring injury, neither is Liam Bridcutt. Keshi Anderson's scan confirmed a grade two injury - potentially new year for him.

Wigan caretaker manager positive
approach to game tomorrow - show players vid of Blackpool's game in midweek and say to his players "Fill yer boots"

Blackpool manager negative approach "We need to be careful..they have some dangerous players and will be looking to impress their caretaker manager"

Unless he’s lost the dressing room, the players surely, for personal pride alone, will want to show that Wednesday was a one off aberration.

As much as I don’t think Appleton is right for the job I’m absolutely desperate for us to get a good result and put a good display on tomorrow. So far every game I’ve managed to get my nephew too has been either dull or worse a disaster. It’s his first away game as a Seasider tomorrow (brought up a Tranmere fan by a neglectful father) so 4000 Seasiders and a good result should well and truly have him hooked for life ! For the next 24 hours or so I’m all about positivity.

Grimshaw
Connolly, Ekpiketa, Williams, Thompson
Dougal, Patino, Carey
CJ, Yates, Lavery

Maxwell
Garbutt
Ward
Wright
Poveda
Corbineau
Madine

It’s not a bad matchday squad if you can look beyond form and the complete lack of depth in defence.

3-0 to the Seasiders. 🍊🙏

Following the red card for Thompson at Sheff Utd did he revert back to being on 4 yellows? If so is he now not suspended tomorrow?

We have often stepped up for big games in the past, a good vocal following going too always spurs the side on.

Let's hope we do it again.

WE MUST NOT LOSE AGAINST WIGAN, but if we play like we did against Middlesbrough, we will do. I've never been as brassed off with a Bloomfield Road performance in my life. I sat there squirming watching us defending corners with their sweeper 10 yards inside our half. The congestion in our 6 yard box was unbelievable. Why can't we have our two fastest players, one on each flank near the halfway line? That is an outlet, and they would have to have at least three defenders back. As it was, our cleared corners were coming straight back at the defence.
Tomorrow, we have to treat the Wigan match as 'shit or bust,' and really have a go at them. In all my years watching The Pool, we've never been the best in the world at defending a 1-0 lead, or holding out for a 0-0.
Come on lads, Iet's be positive and come home with the three points.
🧡UTMP🧡

The left side of our defence is scaring me to death today so can we please just go on the atack from minute one?

Appleton won't be at Wigan today. I'm currently watching him ref the RL game between Aussie and the Kiwis. on red button

It's easier to pick the team these days with all the injuries. I go along with Sean McGinlay's prediction here:

The front three is probably correct, but could be switched around with CJ on the left and either of Jerry or Lavery in the centre.
I would think Yates down the middle, Lavery wide. Happy with that team given the circumstances.
